Wonderful place for lunch with a nice gift shop as you enter the building. They have a unique selection and you are sure to find something that would make a perfect gift. While reservations are not 'required' they are appreciated. I highly recommend calling at (936) 875-6200 to ensure they will be able to accommodate your group at your requested time. Everything on the menu is delicious and is served by very friendly welcoming owners and staff. There are three dining rooms and each is decorated uniquely to make your dining experience more enjoyable. Each table is is set with Tea Cups waiting to be filled. We prefer the flavored iced teas. The almond tea is delicious and never fails to please. I suggest you give their teas a try Today I enjoyed a Chicken Salad Plate with broccoli salad and my sister had the Trio Platter. Both plates were delicious and fixed to perfection. The Chicken Salad Sandwich Plate has a croissant filled with chicken salad and an order of Broccoli Salad. I love their chicken salad and often have the Trio platter with chicken salad, broccoli salad and chicken and spaghetti when at MarTeres. No matter what I order the food is consistently delicious. If you are up for dessert treat yourself to anything on the menu. I personally love the individual size Lemon Bunt Cake. It is served warm and it is hard not to 'eat the whole thing'. I don't even really like salad, but their mandarin orange salad might be my number one favorite meal of all time. The dressing is delicious! I come for the salad and the atmosphere, and always leave with a to-go pint of the dressing. I also ordered a to-go pan of the chicken stuffing for Thanksgiving last year and was promptly re-appointed as the favorite child. I haven't been to many tearooms at this point in my life, but Mar Teres is undoubtedly my favorite so far. The food is delicious no matter what you order, the wait staff is every bit of friendly Southern hospitality that exists, and the décor is the epitome of tearoom charm. My friends and I love getting together for a ladies lunch at Mar Teres when we're all in town from college. If you're any kind of fan of tea room cooking, you will probably enjoy the food here. Some of the popular choices include the chicken spaghetti, the broccoli salad, and the assorted quiches. My personal favorite is the chicken salad sandwich. However, you MUST try the almond tea! I'm not even a big tea drinker, but I love the almond tea at Mar Teres. Fair warning--if you're not big on sweetness, this tea might be a little too sweet for you. Still, I'd say it's worth a taste. Lastly, a small bit of advice. This tearoom is pretty popular with the locals, so it can get busy. This is partly due to their limited hours (I think it's 10am--2pm on Saturdays). Most of the time, you need to make a reservation the day before. I don't think I've ever had to wait long for a table or food, but I wouldn't recommend going there as a walk-in. read more

Very good and fresh victuals are served at this converted house purposed as an eatery. The crowds show how popular and good it is. Parking can be tough. I have never been to a tea house before. Well, except for high tea in London I have not. They have what I have learned is the usual tea house fare of salads, quiche, sandwiches and soup. I got a special which was a Tex-Mex salad on a large tostada. It was really good. The ladies I was with got different quiches and salads. They reported that they were toothsome. Service is friendly and prompt. Our server anticipated our needs and took care of them. This was the best and friendliest service that I can remember at a restaurant. You do need to make reservations here because it is only open from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. But, if you are in the area, looking for a place to lunch, you might try this. read more

This is a little gem of a place in Lufkin. I love the atmosphere, but the food is even better. Must try's are the Almond Tea (oh so delicious!) and the chicken spaghetti. Everything else is good too, but those are my favorites. We don't live in Lufkin but whenever we're driving through we have to stop. Only negative: it's a small place and gets packed so be prepared to wait if you don't have reservations. But trust me, it's worth the wait. read more

My friends and I absolutely love to eat here! You must make a reservation and be prepared to wait; this is not the type of place that you will get in and out within the standard 1-hour lunch break. But if you have the time and plan ahead, you will not be disappointed. The food is always spot-on; the menu is fairly small but there is a different special each day. I have loved everything that I have ordered, especially the chicken spaghetti and the broccoli salad. And you must try the almond tea!
