My 82-year-old mother was charged significantly above what is Usual, Customary, and Reasonable (UCR) for two simple fillings, coded D2330 and D2332. She was charged $263 for a 1-surface filling of one tooth (D2330) and $385 for a 3-surface filling of another tooth (D2332), totaling $648 for about 30 minutes of work. When I spoke to the front desk clerk regarding these excessive charges, she tried to tell me they charge less than UCR. Not true! They purposefully do not contract with ANY dental insurance plans, so a patient is left to pay whatever absurd excess they want to charge above the UCR set by dental insurance plans. While the clinical work was fine, the price gouging is undeniable. I have had a few dental fillings myself, and fees paid by insurance plus my copay was never remotely close to what this office charges! When I mentioned that my initial search for reasonable market costs for D2330 and D2332 in zip code 60031 was using AI, the clerk literally laughed into the phone, despite that AI provided legit references for its data. She pointed me instead to fairconsumerhealth dot org for pricing. For zip code 60031, "average allowed amount" at the 80th %ile even for D2330 is $176 and for D2332 is $253, a fraction of what this office charges! For an even more stark comparison, consider that as of 2025, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services allowed $52.18 and $92.19, respectively, for these same services. I highly recommend looking elsewhere for a practice that values fair pricing. Neumann and Mackey focus on running a profit-driven business, not a patient-centered dental practice. Good chairside manner does not justify price gouging, especially little old ladies on fixed incomes.

I had a panic attack while I was under sedation because they didn't monitor my dosages or vitals correctly and Dr. McClenahan told me to "suck it up and stop acting like a baby" while he continued to perform gum grafting surgery as my numbing medicines and sedation wore off so I could feel what was going on. I could not breath properly due to my nose being stuffy from crying and he just yelled at me to take a deep breath through my nose. Then they didn't send me home with enough pain medicine so I was miserable for a week. I called them to have medicine called in for me...they didn't answer my calls or return my call in a timely manner. Personally, he performed two flap surgeries on me back in 2011, followed by a gum graft to support bone loss in a different area in 2012. The procedures seemed normal and, according to other dentists I've seen for routine cleaning, the grafts look really good. Maybe they say that to everyone but my probes are healthy. He righted the ship and saved me from having to go down the implant road--for that alone, I'm thankful. Plus, I've been going to him for semi-annual cleanings ever since!

Generally, they have their own agenda they push onto their patients and they refuse to listen to what patients tell them. A bit unprofessional and outdated dental tech, too, as they refuse better recent X-rays when available. 1) They offer cosmetic orthodontics and they tried to push that on me though I had it as a child. No other capable past dentist had ever recommended repeat ortho correction to me or claimed my bite was off and would damage my teeth. This felt quite absurd. I can relate to another Yelp review mentioning unnecessary dental work there. 2) They really push their idea of using electric toothbrushes though I've never used one and I've ALWAYS received compliments from years of hygienists about how effective my brushing has been and that an electric toothbrush would not be any better. This practice alone had vehemently disagreed. Furthermore, they complained to wife at her later appointment about my rebuking their idea of using an electric toothbrush. This felt quite unprofessional. 3) Our prior facility had much newer tech with X-rays; computer-assisted 3D models from X-rays, etc. We left that prior facility due to questionable billing practices (we have insurance but was impossible to recoup out-of-pocket over-payments). Anyway, they refused to use higher-tech X-rays from my prior dentist of less than a year old. 4) Hygienist took least amount of time with polishing and flossing than at any prior facility, both for me and for my wife later. 5) Their X-ray machines were failing at my appointment and they had to do them twice on me.
