I went here with my family and this was an alright time first off all the staff was great and the ice cream was the biggest amount I have ever seen such is a good thing and a bad thing because you can get full quick so if you are full I recommend getting a cup because even a small cone was ginormous. But a bad side is the tables were disgusted there was so much trash under the tables but you can just eat standing up. I really was hoping that on the day I visited Martha's would have both the peanut butter and the banana so I could get an Elvis inspired kid-sized cup. I don't need flavors to be twisted together. In fact, I think I prefer them to be side by side. On this first trip I got to try the peanut butter and chocolate swirl, the mint and chocolate swirl, and the pumpkin and maple walnut swirl. The maple walnut was the weakest flavor of the bunch, with too much manufactured maple flavor and a cloying sweetness. The peanut butter and chocolate swirl was the big winner. On the food front, the kids grilled cheese sandwich was far superior to the clam strips. The fries weren't that great either. But you aren't coming here for the food. You're coming for the soft serve. And while the flavors may be ht or miss, the good clearly outweigh the bad. read more

FINALLY got to Martha's yesterday. I've passed it a million times and everyone has been raving about it since I moved to the area. The best ice cream I have ever had in my life!! I grew up coming to Martha's and it is absolutely amazing. Even just ordering through the window and all those good smells wafting out... makes me hungry just thinking about it! My favorite flavor has always been the apple pie! So good!! It is hard to put into words just how delectable this stuff is!! Unlike any other! It is a lot of bang for your buck too!! Even the small is huge and if you come right before closing you get more I'll admit I always get the medium or large... it's just pure yumminess!! They make it fresh daily and rotate flavors - there are tons to choose from!! Only downfall is I have to hop on a plane or drive for a couple days to get it now... so sad because I sure crave this stuff on a daily basis!! Mmmm, Martha's. I honestly can't count how many times I have been here. Definitely dozens, possibly over 100. Of course, I literally grew up down the road. Living 45 minutes away now, I don't get here as often as I used to, but when I get up here, it's always a treat. Martha's has a rotating menu of homemade soft-serve flavors, ranging from the classic vanilla and chocolate to newer flavors like blue moon. My favorite has always been orange cream twist, a mix of vanilla and orange sherbet. If Martha's is open, there's almost guaranteed to be a line. If there isn't a crowd here, there's probably something horribly wrong. It's a perennial favorite among tourists and the locals crowd in when the tourists aren't around. This place has grown quite a bit since it opened 50 years ago, adding more windows and a grill serving hot food. Thankfully, that growing added a ton more parking. On today's visit, I got my standard: a small orange cream twist cone. A "small" at Martha's is a tower of ice cream, with the bigger sizes only crazier. Honestly, a small is plenty for an adult. When I was little, they put candy eyes on the kiddie cones, but I'm unsure if they still do that. Prices are a tad steep at $4 (including tax) for a small and, indeed, price is my only complaint. But that won't stop me from returning. Oh, no, I've been coming here since I was 3 and I bet I'll be back until the day I die. This was the second stop for me and my friends on the, "ice cream trail" which is a 18 stop trail of ice cream locations along the North East. This location was said to be selected as a top ten best ice cream locations in the country and visited from people from all over the world. I think that the, "people from all over the world" comment may have more to do with this places location being near Lake George and next to the Great Escape Theme Park than the ice cream per se. I tried a slice of ice cream cake, which was a neat thing to serve at a ice cream place as I am used to the only option being a whole cake. It took a good few minutes to get it and it was swimming in hot fudge and buried in whip cream. The vanilla and chocolate flavors and cake were all a bit bland and it felt hard and almost freezer burned. This was the only thing I tried so it is entirely likely there are better things to eat there but I have to rate it based on what I consumed. My two friends tried pistachio soft serve and a raspberry sherbet which was sugar free. They said that they liked that there were non dairy and sugar free options. They liked the raspberry. However, they said the pistachio was not very flavorful. The location did have plenty of seating in the shade, a nice view of the amusement park, and pretty cool wood sculptures. I especially liked the fountain benches where you could sit on a hot day or watch your kids play and get soaked. In the end, I think that this place is a great location but the ice cream is not particularly amazing. Perhaps in time, with more visits, I'll find something I like more though. read more

When I did receive my order it lacked the necessary cup for my drink, to which they almost refused due to me not having the receipt on me. I have been here before and my group was happy enough with the food to return. It's a decent quick bite. I stopped by this time for dessert and no one was thrilled with the taste. The kids were excited bc of the size of their cones, but flavor-wise we weren't impressed. I thought my strawberry milkshake tasted like it was from McDonalds. They seem to be doing well with spacing out and protecting customers during Covid-times. There are partitions between registers and my server had disinfectant spray for the pen at her register which I greatly appreciated. Best ice cream I've ever had. I come back every year and make a trip around what flavors they have on rotation. For my birthday this year I drove 7 hours round trip just to get this ice cream. So worth it. Got it twice before driving back. Can't go wrong with the classic vanilla/chocolate twist and the peanut butter is phenomenal! Portion sizes are HUGE. A small is a normal place's medium or large. They have manual heaters in their seating area for cold or rainy days which is so handy and they're grill is pretty good too. Again, HUGE portion sizes. They usually have long lines but there are multiple aisles and they move very efficiently so don't be discouraged. Pro tip- go after lunch (12:30ish) when the machines have plenty of time to thicken the soft serve so there's less chance of dripping! The large you see pictures (21 swirls) was less than $5!! Located directly across from Great Escape, this ice cream stand is very busy. They have lines for food as well as ice cream and although there have been substantial crowds both times we visited, service is swift and friendly. I am partial to DOLE whips, pineapple in particular, so I loved being able to access the flavor choices schedule to get my preferred fix. Servings sizes are humongous for the ice creams. Order down and you should be able to finish your portion. As I mentioned, there were crowds at both our visits but there is plenty of seating (shaded and unshaded) and everyone is HAPPY here, patrons and employees alike. I've only ever had the soft serve ice cream at Martha's, so I can't speak to the rest of their menu, but their soft serve is quite possibly the best I've had. I love the variety of flavors (the pistachio is amazing) and you can "stack" two flavors if you can't decide on one - I've never seen this before and it's a great way to try more than one flavor. Ordinarily I don't write reviews while on vacation. I'll check-in, make a mental note, snap some photos and write when I get home. Vacation time is for family, not writing, right? Well, I had to make an exception for Martha's Dandee Cream as I was so surprised by it. Martha's is a local institution. Located on Route 9 right across the street from Six Flags Great Escape, it is famous for huge (but fast moving) lines at its numerous windows and exceptional ice cream. It has been featured on various national television shows and routinely makes the Trip Advisor top 10 for ice cream in the country. All of that is well deserved. The ice cream comes in huge portions, there are tons of varieties and it is DELICIOUS. We had a thicker than concrete chocolate shake (not an official name!), an apple pie soft serve for the little one, a salted caramel Cremewich (imagine a Carvel Flying Saucer on steroids) for the older one, and I had a peanut butter dipped banana soft serve cone. The family decided I had made the wisest choice. Seeing as ice cream was involved, no one should have been surprised. So why the surprise? Before gorging ourselves on frozen manna from heaven, we ate lunch at Martha's grill. It was shockingly good. This is a road side ice cream joint serving up legit hot meals heavy on the Americana. My wife and I both had the Fish Fry, which was a tremendous piece of cod perfectly breaded & fried, served on a toasted New England bun with lettuce and a side of fries & cole slaw. I was also pleased to find plenty of Heinz Malt Vinegar at the condiment station, both for my fish & fries. The boys each had a kid's meal hot dog. I'm not sure what kind of kids Martha grew up with, but those meals were plenty for every adult I know. They weren't just huge, though. The buns were nicely toasted and the hot dogs were higher quality all beef variety. So, Martha's is for real. I was looking forward to the dessert, I had no idea how good the obligatory meal beforehand would be. I visit Lake George every summer, and I guarantee that I will find a reason to be in Queensberry to have a meal at Martha's every year from now on. read more

Huge soft serve ice cream emporium with plenty of parking. I was disappointed that on the day I came by for ice cream they were not serving the orange / vanilla swirl. Major bummer. Ended up getting a small mango (or was it pineapple? I forget). Anyway, that sucker was HUGE. And tasty. Regulars recommend getting a child size for a more manageable portion.
