I retained Meyes Telles in early 2025 after being contacted about a potential unemployment-related…read moreinvestigation. I paid $6,782 up front based on the understanding that this would cover the investigative phase and early representation. During my consultation, the conversations repeatedly emphasized that my "future," "freedom," and "life" were at risk if I didn't retain the firm immediately. At the time I was scared and vulnerable, and looking back, the tone now feels unnecessarily alarm-driven given how my case ultimately resolved. Over the following months, very little seemed to happen on my case, but I was still charged recurring $500 "criminal investigation minimum" fees plus additional charges for brief emails and short calls on top of that. My understanding of a "minimum fee" was that it would apply only when less than that amount of work occurred, not as an extra charge added regardless of activity. The wording in the agreement felt unclear, and the way the fee was applied didn't feel consistent. When I requested a full accounting, the billing appeared fragmented across many tiny time entries in months where the minimum fee was also added. I asked for clarification and said clearly that I wanted to resolve my questions internally and amicably first. After one reply from the firm, my follow-up request went unanswered. When the matter finally became a formal case, I was then told I would need to pay an additional $15,000 for "pre-trial work," even though only one hearing was expected. This was never clearly disclosed at the beginning, and it felt like a sudden financial surprise at the worst possible moment. I had also previously been told that unused funds would roll forward if the case escalated -- but when I asked about that, the explanation changed completely. At that point I no longer felt comfortable remaining with the firm. I hired a new attorney for $3,500. Within one round of plea negotiations, we obtained a highly favorable resolution that removed all felony charges and resulted in a much better outcome than what I had been led to believe was realistic. My new counsel also expressed concern about how the early strategy and billing from my prior representation had been handled, and explained that my situation was actually fairly straightforward -- not the extreme, catastrophic scenario I was initially presented with. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend that anyone considering this firm ask very direct questions about: * what their "monthly minimum" fee actually means in practice * when and how large additional fees may be * whether funds truly roll forward if the case progresses * what realistic case outcomes look like before being told worst-case scenarios I left this experience feeling financially taken advantage of, misled about the severity of my situation, and ignored when I asked reasonable questions about billing. I would not use this firm again.

James Kahn was referred to me by another attorney and was absolutely a BAD attorney!! Mr. Kahn assigned my case to his associate Krystal Ahart who was a very bad and, rude, ignorant, not professional and extremely incompetent!! They fictitiously served me with a bill ( $950.00 ) demanding more money besides what was agreed in the signed agreement which I paid already. They never answered my emails or questions pertaining to my filing. James Kahn then proceeded with withdrawing himself from my case before my meeting of creditors which is the most important meeting after he was paid in full!! James Kahn appeared with me because I told him it's in the agreement and I paid for him to be there . While at the meeting James Kahn never represented me correctly and let a creditor ask many questions not pertaining to the bankruptcy which hurt my case in front of the bankruptcy trustee. Then handed me another bill for $300.00. James Kahn never objected to any questions which his job is to protect me. I feel very strongly that James Kahn and his associate hurt me in my case and haven't received any discharge as of yet. I have made a formal complaint with the Arizona bar and investigation has been launched against James Kahn and Krystal Ahart. It has been an utter nightmare trying to work with Eric Schmidt and his law firm "Schmidt Law…read moreGroup". I first met with paralegal, Alvaro Vasquez, who I found to be highly personable and professional, so I signed with the firm. I thought the firm only took 30% of the settlement as payment, as most attorneys do.. Mr Schmidt took 45%. Meaning he took almost 1/2 of all the funds before paying the bills. Sadly, I made huge mistake not meeting Eric Schmidt in person prior to signing with the firm. When I originally came to discuss my case, I thought I would be meeting with Mr. Schmidt. I was wrong. Al Vasquez basically stated Mr. Schmidt stepped out of the office, and wasn't available. I wish I would have seen that as a red flag, yet with hindsight I see my error. The next time I called the Schmidt Law Group, I was told Alvaro Vasquez no longer worked for the firm, and spoke with Eloisa Garcia. Eloisa had me running all over town collecting all my medical records and bills. She told me it would be much quicker and save Mr. Schmidt money which would lower the costs in settlement. With hindsight I realized this was totally unprofessional of Schmidt Law Group to do. It wasn't my responsibility to do the work of a paralegal. I don't remember how much time passed, yet soon after submitting my medical bills and records, Eloisa stopped answering the phone. No one else returned my phone calls or emails. Months went by with no r communications. I started leaving telephone messages weekly, along with emails. Then suddenly, one day when I called someone answered, and then every time I called the law group there was someone new answering the phone. If anyone did answer the phone messages either didn't get to Mr. Schmidt, or he chose not to return my calls. I really just wanted to get an update on the status of my case and became concerned when no one answered the phone. It also became obvious Mr. Schmidt appeared not to be able to keep any of his staff. I also want to point out was that some of the paralegals working for Mr. Schmidt were extremely rude, and unprofessional. Most had no idea who I was or what my case was about. I believe it took about two years before I actually spoke directly with Mr. Schmidt. When I did speak with Mr. Schmidt, he was often rude and abrupt. When I attempted to complain about how my case was being handled, Mr. Schmidt attacked my personhood. My case took four years to settle. I've dealt with the legal system (civil cases) in the past. Never did I experience anything like this. There are so many other attorneys in Arizona, if you're searching for an attorney you might be better served elsewhere. I personally believe all clients should be heard and be treated with dignity and respect. This wasn't my experience with the Schmidt Law Group.
