I've only needed a lawyer once before, for criminal defense, so when I needed a lawyer in another emergency situation, I pulled the business card out of my wallet and called again. I was connected to Mr. Hamby, on a holiday, to explain my situation and what I was looking for. Ultimately, it turns out that the kind of lawyer I needed was not within his firm's area of expertise. What impressed me though was that he was able to politely take charge of the conversation, ask me simple and straightforward questions, and get to the conclusion in a short amount of time. It might seem silly to leave a positive review for a consultation that ended with "I'm not the lawyer you need," but that's just the reality of the situation. A less talented person might have had me going in circles, explaining things over and over again, misunderstanding what I was asking for and so on. I really appreciated his professionalism and skill, and in the future, if I do need a criminal defense lawyer, I think I would be very happy with Mr. Hamby's services. read more

This review concerns the Law Firm DM Cantor not Mr. David Cantor. I met with a person who stated they were a former prosecutor. The sales pitch given to me was promising...meaning it was full of promises. So I signed on with DM Cantor. They quickly took my 15 thousand dollars. The sales person (aka 'former prosecutor') left and was never seen again. My assigned 'DM Cantor attorney' contacted me. From that point on...my phone calls, my texts and my emails were ignored by the attorney. The attorney was always 'in a meeting' or 'away from the office'. Responses to my pleas for information came from an assistant. An assistant who felt no need for accurate information. We named her Queen of Condescension. Wonder why more negatives are not given this firm? When you 'sign on' you sign a document stating that you will never give them a negative rating on any internet board. Every time I showed up to court there was a different lawyer representative from their firm that flip through my file as they walked through the door. No preparation and no concern for your well-being. If I had accepted the plea bargain that DMC offered me, my life would have been ruined still today. I was charged with 4 felony counts of Aggrivated DUI, and with a prior DUI, the minimum sentence was 4.5 years. If you hire this firm you are wasting your money! A basic DUI is going to net you the same results with a public defender for only $150.00. The manager puts on a great song and dance and will bullshit you into believing they will get you some results. True the results are the LAW! Paying them is a waste of your money. Once I fired them I was told by the Manager that they would refund me my payments. Again another LIE. They spent 2 hours writing a 3 page letter how they are not going to refund me anything and came up with how they spent more than I paid them. I admit I made a bad judgment error and got a DUI, was completely freaked out, and didn't know what to do. After looking on the web, I read that perhaps these guys were the best at handling DUIs. Didn't have any other connections so decided to give it a try. Made my appointment, paid my money, and hoped for the best. As noted by others, you have to go through many layers of receptionists and paralegals to try and get anything done or any questions answered. The receptionists and paralegals are downright rude. The attorney was ok. But it turns out I really could probably have done it myself, it would certainly have been done and over a lot faster, it would most likely have ended up with a similar outcome, and of course I would have saved a lot of money - not $5000 as initially quoted, but in the end over $7000. Could definitely have used that for other things. Guess I learned my lesson. They took the money and ran laughing all the way to the bank. Generally you will always get an appointed attorney that works in the same office but has no skills with a defense. They ended up charging me more than $10,000 for a case that led to no win and the worse outcome. I strongly suggest you go somewhere else where they might care and the lawyers will actually make a defense. You are better off going to low price layer with the same outcome. After reading some reviews, I feel some of these must certainly be for a different law firm because the reviews about the firm only caring about money, lack of communication, and, most especially, lack of legal expertise are completely opposite of my experience. I was in the unfortunate position of needing the services of a law firm and hiring the Law Offices of David Michael Cantor is the best decision I could have made. While traveling in the area I was arrested for DUI. Having not had so much as a speeding ticket in more than 20 years, I was scared and in a bit of shock. Unlike some of the reviewers, I did not research and am fortunate that they happened to the first phone call I made. I spoke with Dave Maletta by phone and later that day in their office. He spent nearly an hour with me going over the case and even talked about what the defense strategy would be. At the end of the consultation he did tell me the fees for their services and the payment plan that was available. I hired them because I was going to be leaving the area that day and didn't have time to talk with other attorneys. I am so glad I did. Did they call me if I was late on a payment? Yes. They are a business, and I signed a contract agreeing to pay for their services, so I did not find this surprising or different than any other service for which I contract, like utilities or insurance. Steve Garcia was assigned my case and called me the next day. Throughout the process Steve kept me informed and explained the process each step of the way. Any time I called or emailed Steve or his assistant Erica I received a response within a business day and usually within an hour or two. Because I was lived out of state, Steve scheduled regular phone meetings with me and always called within minutes of our prearranged time. As I am sure most people would be in the situation, I was scared and extremely stressed. In addition to keeping me informed, Steve made sure to put me at ease when possible. Jonathan Goebel, another attorney at the firm and the first person I spoke with when I called, testified in a hearing and was instrumental in the outcome of the case. If I could give this law firm negative stars I would. The people that work at David Cantors law firm are the rudest people I have ever encountered in my life. They are not taking your case because they wish to help you but because they want your money. Their secretaries seem to think they are above you as well as the attorneys. They are deceitful and in humane. I am glad that there have been a few people who have been treated well by this law firm but it was probably because you raised no questions or showed no signs of doubt. If they can get you to agree the will take all your money's worth. I would never trust this law firm and I hope everyone that is considering takes this as a warning and DOES NOT go. I hired Cantor after I asked for a recommendation (a few years back) for a friend's friend in Tempe where Cantor had his office, which is where the DUI occurred. If I had known he had moved into one of the most expensive properties in downtown Phoenix, I might have not have consulted him. But I felt there were problems with the entire DUI process and that I needed a lawyer. Because he had previously practiced in Tempe, I thought he was a good choice. In retrospect and as I was later informed, he was the worse choice. I never believed the breathalyzer number Tempe PD gave me and I never refused to blow contrary to Tempe PD's assertion. I thought I had a good case. Until I witnessed a young female named Jessica in Cantor's lobby discussing a bribe with an older man who asked if my cystic fibrosis definitely kicked in in two years. I DO NOT HAVE CYSTIC FIBROSIS. That is a fiction my step-mother created in the 80's. My DUI blood did not come back for months after it had gone to Tucson (mysteriously) for lab work. The arresting officer no showed TWICE at the Motor Vehicle hearing (he first postponed to be accurate then no showed). Cantor's firm did not inform me of a successful motion they filed with Tempe Court and thus I took the plea deal based on their advice and the information I had available at the time. Cantor's OWN associate told me I had a malpractice/fraud case against Cantor. Several people have confided my BAC was actually not even over .15 much less over .2 as was claimed (which was what I was fairly sure of). Then when I filed a malpractice claim, I got a judge who, let's just say, was not a good draw. I would NEVER recommend Cantor's firm for anything. Plus they were terrifically expensive and lied to me about my case. I also received information after the fact (in writing) that the State Bar of Arizona was in collusion with the process as I was a licensed attorney. I became the only attorney likely in the state of Arizona to completely lose a law license over a trumped up DUI. Cantor's associate told me plenty of lawyers and judges in Arizona had first time DUI's, which was my situation. But I got permanently suspended by the State Bar of Arizona, the equivalent of disbarment, it just sounds less harsh. So, in the end, I concluded how Cantor defends the DUI depends on where the most cash is coming from. I only paid $6K. How much did the older man pay who thought my cystic fibrosis kicked in in two years? And the State Bar of Arizona has a Jessica with whom I have had words with for years over her lack of ethics. Bottom line: if you desire to drink, either move to a different state with ethical legal processes or vacation elsewhere. Do not give Arizona and its unethical legal processes your money or the time of day. On top of all that, the intoxilyzer was miswired into my car AND it was deliberately miscalibrated. Thanks for nothing Cantor. You can take back all those fruit baskets you sent me after I recommended you to my friend's friend. read more

Our case just settled and we could not be more satisfied. Christine Whalin was our assigned attorney, but working with any of the other attorneys and staff was always pleasant and very professional. Through diligent casework and communications with the prosecutors -Christine was able to have the criminal count dismissed altogether "in the interest of justice"- What a relief!!! She arranged Defensive driving diversion for the remaining civil Traffic violation, so with that complete, NOTHING will appear on the driving record or affect our auto insurance. Everyone at DMC went out of their way to make sure we were fully communicated with and understood the next step all along the way- this is how a team is supposed to work together and we always felt we had a TEAM of professionals working our case.
