Pizza Palaces need a Beer Bestie and Martin City Pizza and Tap Room provides it all at multiple locations across Kansas and Missouri. Happy Hour is something to boast about here with a variety of beer as well as food specials. Another perk is joining their free loyalty program from 5-star. Just believe me when I tell you it's worth it. Now, this particular location is within Mission Farms in Leawood on the Kansas side, and it's spacious but doesn't have a sprawling patio like the namesake Martin City location does. But, all in all, the restaurant is rustic enough while also appealing to the tap room crowd because it has visible nuances of brewing beer. The menu here seems to be the same with an extensive rotating list of in-house brews and no domestic in sight! Don't come here in search of a Miller Light! As far as the happy hour menu is concerned, there are a lot of food options priced below $10. And don't forget on Monday it is happy hour all day. One of the best deals, in my opinion, is the one topping person sized pizza for $8, which is a full meal in itself with or without a beer on the side. For this, you get to choose either red sauce or white sauce and then any topping from an extensive list on the menu. I prefer the red sauce, but that's only because dairy and my tummy don't get along well, and the afredo sauce base is very heavy. Another fun surprise was the strong beer cheese and sweet, but still horseradish forward mustard served with the happy hour pretzel sticks. All the dishes offered are great pairings for the beer. Last but not least, the beer here is fantastic. I am inclined to always order my typical hardway IPA, but this time around, I branched out and went with the Coastline, and I wasn't disappointed. It was a pale ale and had a nice hop profile, but wasn't too bitter. They also offer a few "domestic-esque" beer varieties that are approachable pilsner and lager options. These can appeal to even the pickiest craft beer hater. Martin City isn't trying to be something it's not; it's family friendly, but it's still first and foremost a brewery and a darn good one at that.

Came for an early dinner. My pizza was delicious and beer was good too. The waitress was kind and attentive. The cheesy bread was great as well.

Love, love, love! I stopped in for a solo date to one of my favorite pubs. I decided to sit at the bar since it was pretty quiet and boy did I enjoy myself. The bartender was a blast and suggested this magnificent cocktail, the Strawberry Basil Mule 10/10 great balance of basil and sweetness. It might be temporary so get there soon to try it out. For an appetizer I ordered the Italian meatballs such are always delicious and fresh. For an entree, I ordered the chicken pesto sandwich and everything was amazing. You want to try them out!

This place was popping on a random Thursday night, which should tell you a lot! For my drink, I got the Red Sangria (was intrigued by the guava nectar component); I'm really not an alcohol girlie, but I actually enjoyed this (it had the perfect amount of sweetness and strong hints of fruit). For food, I got the 8" Apples in Italy pizza, which was delicious and the perfect portion for 1 person. The sauce was garlic Alfredo; toppings were apples, sausage, goat cheese, olive oil & crushed candied pecans. Literally perfect for my fellow sweet & savory lovers out there (& say what you want, but certain fruits do belong on pizza :P). Ambiance & service were great, a little loud but not too bad. Conveniently located for those staying at the nearby hotel (~3 min walk). 10/10 would recommend!

    Pork Al Pastor Pizza

Great place (regardless of location) for a lunch pizza or sammie or wings. Food - always good (mac and cheese is NOT at Mission location) Service - well trained staff even if few customers @ 2:00 PM, still attentive. Ambiance - pure bar/pizza-ria feel Hadn't been for a while and was craving pizza, had to try the new flavor(s). Now available are either Pork or Chicken Al Pastor pizza options. Usually Al Pastor is Tacos or Burritos but MC make a mean and tasty Al Pastor sauce to go with your P/C choice. They also have a pretty good variety of their in house (in Martin City) beers and seasonally change varieties. Lunch special - house/caesar salad with a personal pizza of ANY of their specialty pizza's - nice IF you be a beer man/woman - THEN it's worth it to join their Beer club. Free to sign up, they now have a premium option too = Bogo offers, discount on food, good prices on take home six packs o' their beers.

Martin City is always on par for us! We have come here with a couple of people or some groups of 20+. The service is always great and the food is fantastic. It is my go to pizza place when I'm in the area! Last time we had the pepperoni pizza. It was fantastic. The crust was cooked beautifully, the cheese blend was flavorful and the pepperoni had the perfect level of spice! Thank you! Great food, great service!

Very clean and very fresh! The servers are very knowledgeable about dietary restrictions. If you are vegan, you can modify the hummus plate without feta. For a meal, you can order the veggie pizza, ask for dairy-free cheese instead of mozzarella and ask for the pizza crust to not be brushed with butter. You can also order a Taste of Italy salad. Replace the cheese with dairy-free and ask for the balsamic dressing instead of the feta one. Overall great experience, great local beer, and highly recommend if you are in the Kansas City area.

Martin City Pizza Is So Special! We Love Going For The Lowkey And Causal Vibes And Great Pizza. The Servers Are Always Kind And Attentive However I Noticed That the Service Is A Little Slower At This Location. This Could Completely Be My Fault As I May Be Going At Prime Time However The Pizza Is Always Fresh, Hot And Delicious! Our New Favorite Is The Wildcard Pizza. It's Like A Spicy Buffalo Chicken Pizza With Blue Cheese Which I Normally Don't Like But For Here, It Works SO WELL! 10/10. I Always Enjoy Martin City And Would Recommend To Locals And Visitors Alike!

The space is friendly with its seating and there are plenty of games to keep you engaged while you enjoy your brew. The music theme lines the decor, with cassettes (remember those?) from all genres featured. Friction always has some of their own makings on tap as well as guest taps that can range from regional to national. The board will list the ABV for each beer, as well as the pour prices, and you can choose from anything between lighter ales to heavier stouts. I prefer the darker stuff and really love their 'Train in Vain', a brown ale with fabulous body. Don't miss their fresh-hopped varietals, such as the recent 'Earth & Sky', which gives you that right-off-the-trellis hoppiness. If you're not sure what you want, then the makers will always give you friendly suggestions. They're proud of their offerings and that pride comes through in the beer. Making unique craft beer is always a labor of love and Friction really shows you how they get it done.

We ended up just getting a snack, Gouda Mac and cheese bites. They were pretty salty which took away for the flavor inside. Dunking in the RAD AF (one of their beers) ranch helped it out. First of all, looking at my last review I realized that the Rad AF was the first IPA I really fell in love with and really changed the way I viewed IPAs in general - now they are my primary beer of choice which would have shocked 2019 Sarah to hear. The things I said in my last review still ring true as the beer at City Barrell anywhere you get it whether it's in the taproom or at the liquor store is pricey. The difference now is that everything everywhere is pricey and I maintain that their beers are still amongst the very best in town, so in short, it's honestly probably a slightly better value now than it was in 2019 when it's all said and done. Now onto the food. You're going to find bar-fare here and they do it really well. We had cheese curds and I had a sandwich and "fancy fries" all were delicious. Next time I'm going to do their appetizer platter and just enjoy all the bar food deliciousness. What put this into 5 star territory for me though was our server - she was so nice and welcoming - it was honestly just one of the best casual dining experiences I've had in a long time.
