I went to Buffalo State Pizza with a group of about 14 people on a random Tuesday evening in June. We heard that we could get great pizza by the slice and the bar options were also great, so off we went. I ordered the Breadsticks Fully Clothed appetizer (3 large bread stick topped with both, roasted garlic, and mozzarella cheese served with our house made marinara) to share with the table. It was HUGE and was easily shared with everyone. For myself, I ordered one slice of the Parma (prosciutto, blue cheese, caramelized red onion, romano). It was so good! We really liked that everyone could get whatever slice their hearts desired and it seemed that everyone really liked their choices. We will be back! read more

I ordered a slice online and selected "no red sauce" due to a food allergy. The receipt clearly showed no red sauce, but the slice still came with red sauce and was completely inedible for me. When I mentioned it to the staff, I was told that all slices come with red sauce and nothing was done to make it right. I paid about $8 for food I couldn't eat and left and disappointed. What's especially concerning is that the online ordering system allows sauce customization for slices, which is misleading and unsafe for people with allergies. Would have been higher but...The guy that took our pizza ordered was friendly and helpful to answer the few questions that we had. The first of our group asked about ordering a beer and he told us we order those at the bar. About half of our group of 6 had ordered and went to order beers when the bartender said bar was closed. I checked and they were open for another hour. Which would be fine but about 20 min later the bartender made a mixed drink for someone sitting at the bar. Holy smokes this was so good! Best pizza in KC for real. I ordered the Pesto Pete slice. Price was honestly pretty decent for a NY pizza slice at around $7. And after it came out I was speechless for a little bit. This thing is absolutely bigger than my face, around the size of a Costco pizza slice but heavier due to the toppings. It wasn't just big and loaded, but tasted absolutely divine. The chicken, pesto, and sundried tomatoes work beautifully together. The pine nuts added some nice crunch and nuttiness (nuts are underrated as a pizza topping!). And cream cheese was the only thing I was iffy about but honestly it worked! Added some nice creaminess and additional complexity to the cheese with the parmesan. It was substantial enough that I couldn't finish the slice, honestly I could have made 2 lunches out of this if I didn't inhale most of it at the restaurant. My friend got The Maverick as a slice and I liked this one a lot too! The banana peppers added some nice acidity with the spicy meat. I think I'd be happy to try any of the flavors but I'm eyeing Buffalo Bill for next time. I can't wait. Went here after visiting the Truman Library and this really hit the spot as the first meal of the day. We didn't have to wait too long to get our slices around 6 pm on a Saturday, around 15 min, but it might be longer if you come any later. Parking was easy on the street, found a spot right across the restaurant. Ambiance was great too, they had a live singer with some nice folk vocals, and you can easily get a beer on tap at the bar. Order drinks at the bar. Great place to hang out on First Fridays -- there's sometimes live music on the back patio, and it's a great place to people watch in the middle of all the action. You can order by the slice, which means everyone can get exactly what they want! The slices are huge! They have lots of tasty signature options, and you can even get two different signature flavors on either half of your pizza! The crust is crunchy, and the toppings are flavorful! Also cheese tastes very different in the northeast due to the milk cow's diet, which consists of different grasses, soil pH, etc. so if you're a New Yorker don't think you're going to get that quality you've grown accustomed to. Light sauce which was good but I know most like a little more. Flight cheese and under cooked crust. I "might" try again but there are much better options in Westport and the Northeast side of town. Beer was good n cold, salad was premade with very hard bought croutons. The house made garlic lacked garlic flavor and I'm not convinced the oil used was olive oil, tasted more like veg or cheaper EVOO. read more

We were very excited to finally try Buffalo State but sadly it did not hit like we expected. Breadsticks were very good. Crust was thick and crunchy edges and well seasoned. First time here and I really enjoyed it. It could be easy to miss this place from the front (it kind of blends in) but once you get inside, it's got good character and nice decorations. I have been to Buffalo State Pizza 3 times now. I ate in the restaurant twice and came in to order to-go once. I love that they have a ton of yummy toppings and pre thought out combinations to choose from. Building your own pizza can definitely be a bit pricy with the cost per additional topping. I was happy that I was able to substitute one of the toppings on one of their menu pizza with no additional cost! One of the times I stopped by, they had switched to slices only and were not serving full pizzas. We wanted a full pizza so had to order a bunch of individual slices, which ended up being incredibly expensive (almost $50). I am not sure at exactly what time and on what days they do slices only, but just a heads up. The slices are pretty big though. The employees haven't been overly welcoming at any point. Both of the times I ate in the restaurant the pizza was just slapped onto the table without so much as a smile from the server. Inside gives sort of a sports bar type feel. Wow! I have been following this place on yelp for over a year and finally got here tonight. We were blown away by the food! We got The Vinnie Italian sandwich, and it was unbelievably good! The bread was perfectly toasted, it was served warm and contained a very good amount of high-quality meat and the perfect amount of dressing and vegetables. This may be the best sandwich I've had in town. Then we also shared a slice of The Stockyard pizza. Absolutely amazing! The sausage is perfectly flavored and the ground beef is not greasy and delicious. The pepperoni is cupping, but not crispy burnt which is how I like it. Great pizza, crafted to order with an owner that's involved with the community and responsive! This review almost went in the opposite direction. I've been through Buffalo State's door over a dozen times. Sometimes I pick up pizza or 2 to go or with family and friends for pizza inside or on their back patio. A few weeks ago, I was in with a group and a member of my party was upset over a television station change. I tried to solve the situation that afternoon, but the tempers were fresh.... I reached out to the owner who followed up and gave me the full picture. Misunderstandings happen. The owner was very responsive and fully supported his team who were in the right ( when a patron is rude and condescending, they aren't always right ). My favorite is the KCQ sub sausage for the chicken. You can order any pizza as 1/2 and 1/2, but don't do that with the KCQ because they will use classic red sauce ( house made, tomato based) instead of BBQ sauce and it's not quite as good. What a gem! We tried this place for the 1st time Friday night and surprise- they had live music!! The tap list was impressive for my beer snob other half and they had a full bar for those of us who don't like beer . I had a slice of the Hawaii 5 0 and wow! It was great! From Southern California and have traveled a lot all over the country and always end up at a local pizza joint. Loved this place for dinner! I had the calzone with pepperoni and Canadian bacon and it was so delicious. One of be best calzones I've had. Also tried the cheese sticks and they were very good. Their portions were also very large so good to share if you want to try multiple items. I also felt like they were not expensive at all. About $9 for the calzone and $0.95 per ingredient and like $8 for the cheese sticks even though everything was large portions. I liked the marinara sauce they give as well. The staff was so awesome and friendly and they I went they had live music. Plenty of seating too and I did not have to wait super long to order or get my food to go. They may get busy though so who knows! I highly enjoyed this meal and would definitely try it again if I come back to Kansas City.
