I really wanted to like this place since it's local, but unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. I placed a pickup order for a pizza, wings, and salad, but the quality just wasn't there.The pizza was the biggest letdown--the crust was undercooked and chewy, and the overall flavor was very bland. To make matters worse, the pizza is definitely on the pricier side and just not worth the cost.The wings also missed the mark; they tasted burnt. Additionally, the dipping sauce was packed in a plastic container that had actually melted. Because of this, the sauce was all over the container and the rest of the food. Ordered this via DoorDash--and even with the distance, it showed up fast, fresh, and actually hot. I went with the Penne Vodka plus grilled chicken and a meatball. The sauce was spot on: incredibly rich, creamy, and exactly what you want from a vodka sauce. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the chicken portion was massive (honestly unheard of these days). That meatball was the real sleeper hit, though--tender, well-seasoned, and a great size. I added some of my own herbs and broccoli, but truthfully, the flavor was already there. The only minor miss was the garlic bread; it was a bit heavy on the cheese for me, but two minutes in the air fryer brought it right back to life. I had a great experience at Ava Rae's. It was my first time in and immediately noticed the sports /local/public service decor. It immediately looked like they support local and those in the public service sector which is great to see. Their bar runs along one side with ample seating and the tables along with the kitchen are on the other side running like a long hallway. It made it easy to get around and choose seating. I love getting to sit at the bar and get to know the staff. Hayley was the one who served me and she was knowledgeable and helpful regarding food and drinks. There is a pineapple vodka drink as well that is so refreshing. The pizza, salad, and philly was delicious. The spicy chicken alfredo pizza was cooked to my liking and the toppings were loaded. The pizza was actually pretty tasty, and I enjoyed a true "thin crust." But, the service was really bad. They had only one waitress, and she worked hard. However, customers had to wait quite a while to get their order taken, and even longer to get the check; and, forget about being checked on during the meal. But the kicker was that the apparent manager was just changing the little stickers that told staff whether a stack of boxes was small, medium, or large, as if it wasn't obvious. Rather than help with service, he just played around with the stack of boxes and then washed the glass on a refrigerator door.. He seemed to have NO AWARENESS or CONCERN about his customers and their needs. While the food was acceptable, I won't be going there again. read more

Coming here was a random selection and so glad we did. 1st off - haven't give a shout out to Eric! He took care of us, informative, knew the regulars. We enjoyed talking with him. We had an early dinner since we didn't have lunch. My husband had the Cajun Pasta and it had great flavor and protein wealthy. We didn't ask for the extra spicy and nice to have that option. I had the caprese salad and had them add grilled chicken. Perfect! What we also liked was a place to watch any/all of the NFL games in natural. It bar lighting. We've been hitting this place up for lunch when we're in Olathe and we want to make the second half of our day more difficult with a heavy delicious meal. We can't help but order something not conducive to heavy skilled labor when we're here for lunch and the server happily obliges. The sandwiches are great. The pizza is good. The sauces they use are awesome. The server during lunch hour is great. I've heard the beers are great and they have a great selection but I wouldn't know and I got a ride to the location in any case (they have great beer, no drafts, all cans, cold pint glasses, it's good) This place is great for lunch. Our first exposure to Ava Rae's Pizzeria was the evening of July 4th when the owner walked the parking lot passing out samples. While we had finished eating only a short while earlier, we didn't take a sample. We did appreciate their gesture as they worked to drum up business. A few weeks later, my wife and I decided we would grab a carry out dinner. We ordered a medium pizza - pepperoni and meatball, the Cajun Chicken Pasta, and dessert - Crème Brûlée Donut and Chocolate Chip Cookie. The pizza had ample toppings and appeared to be cooked well. I was hoping for a crispier crust. The pasta was the surprise hit. A generous portion and well balanced flavor profile. The crème brûlée donut was certainly a hit... sinfully rich and delightful. Unfortunately, the cookie was overcooked. As I shared earlier, this was a carryout order. When I came into the restaurant, it was bustling. It felt modern and fresh. The restaurant is a long, narrow galley style restaurant with a glass walled kitchen on the right and seating on the left. Nicely adorned. It was a bit confusing though at first as no one was there to greet me and the cashier was halfway down the restaurant at the end of the kitchen. I was a bit early to arrive. I was greeted and was told my order was in the oven. As I waited, I felt awkwardly in the way of the wait staff as there is no waiting area. I saw our order come to the pass only to over hear they forgot to fire the garlic toast. Another 5 minutes wait. This was the only miss on our to go service. I offer grace as the gal working the pass was busting her tail. We'll be back as we want to try other items and we support our local businesses. A little too tomato-forward, not enough depth. But THEN--bartender slides over a housemade garlic sauce and everything changed. That sauce? Creamy. Raw. Aggressive in the best way. Went there recently with the fam and was not impressed. Both pizzas we tried felt pre-made and weren't great. The crust on the bottom was soft. We also tried the garlic cheese bread, and there was no garlic/butter toasting and the not so great and not very much cheese was barely melted. For the 2 pizzas, garlic bread and a caprese salad it was $80. That didn't include drinks. It took awhile for anyone to stop by to take our order. Ordered Grinder Special (I don't think it's in the menu, so I don't know if it's permanent) which was a delicious mix on sausage, pepperoni, peppers, onions, mozzarella, and marinara. What surprised me was the vast selection of canned beer - any type you want, from various domestics, local, to more distant craft brews are available. I could come back several times to try beers I've never had before. Draft was much more limited. The only thing I would say they should improve is quicker service, but it was busy. We ordered the gluten free cauliflower crust pizza (it only comes in a size small 11"). The crust was moderately thin. I liked it a lot and might even prefer it over traditional gluten crust. My 10 year old GF child said he prefers the thicker GF crust at Papa John's. For toppings we ordered extra marinara, extra pepperoni. On half we did no cheese, and the other half we did DF cheese. Both halves were delicious and we both agreed we would go back. It did cost $20 but I expected that for GF DF. It was more filling than GF cheeseless Papa John's and I suspect the ingredients are a higher quality because it settled better in my stomach. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed. Good TVS and bar.
