One particular anecdote, when we were filing taxes last year (2024), I actually made a mistake in reporting how much estimated taxes I have paid over the year to IRS. Since I had only been using TurboTax before, I didn't have much experience in working with professional tax advisors and I contacted Yan after reading some reviews on Google/Yelp. The experience of using her for my CPA was completely different compared to the previous one I had. She was very detailed and meticulous in checking each detail of my situation, and also didn't pretend to know everything - if there was an issue that she wasn't clear about, she didn't hesitate to look up the necessary IRS documentation to make sure that we weren't making any mistakes. Even after our meetings in-person going over documents, she would also follow-up and double-check to make sure that I hadn't inadvertently overlooked something (and she did find a bunch of details that I had filled in incorrectly as well through this process!) She was also more interested in making sure that I understood the process and what each document was for, rather than just taking everything into her own hands and just asking me to "rubber-stamp" documents. Many clients rave about her professionalism, thoroughness, and reliability over the years. Sadly, my experience was the complete opposite and one of the most frustrating and costly I've ever had with a tax professional. We hired her specifically because of those glowing reviews, but she completely ghosted us throughout the entire process. We sent all requested documents promptly and followed up repeatedly via email, often with no response for weeks. When she did finally reply, it was only with excuse after excuse: she was out of the country, then claimed she never received our documents (despite our delivery confirmations), followed by more vague delays and no progress. She explicitly promised to provide regular updates during the process so we would know where things stood. She never once followed through on that promise. As a result, she did not complete any of the agreed upon work, our tax return was never filed on time, and we were hit with extra IRS penalties and interest that we could have easily avoided with a reliable preparer. Worse, I've seen a troubling pattern in some of her other reviews: when clients raise similar issues about poor communication, delays, or unfinished work, her responses show a clear pattern of lying, downplaying legitimate complaints, making excuses, or outright denying problems instead of owning up to them. Do not trust Sarada Majumder with your taxes or accounting. What appears to be a highly recommended professional based on online reviews can turn into a nightmare of unresponsiveness, broken promises, and financial consequences. This was an expensive and stressful mistake. Save yourself the hassle, penalties, and frustration by choosing someone who actually communicates and delivers on their commitments. I fully expect her to respond to this review with more lies, made up justifications, and rationalizations for her unethical practices, just as she has done with other negative reviews. I will be filing IRS Form 14157 A (Tax Return Preparer Fraud or Misconduct Affidavit) along with Form 14157 to report her misconduct to the IRS Return Preparer Office. This includes her failure to file the return, unresponsiveness, broken promises for updates, provision of false excuses, and causing us direct financial harm through avoidable IRS penalties and interest.
