I don't rely on yelp for looking up business food or non food related, the app does not work properly, learned that first hand.... I do my taxes and have for the last 5 years, thought to hire someone for the 2020 season.... Although I do feel that the person over the phone was professional and counsel me with do's and don'ts, I do think that they were not helpful and could of as least offered an in person appointment. A tale of two tax returns...it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Short version: Service was great for 2015 tax year, things got weird in 2016. Longer version: In early 2016 I was looking for a new tax preparer to do my 2015 year taxes and I saw that these guys had good reviews on Yelp. They were inexpensive, easy to work with and things went fine, they even helped me prepare for tax year 2016. Though I did find it a bit odd that they were a cash-only operation and their location was kind of dodgy but the price was good and they did good work for me that year. Fast forward to early 2017 where again I enlisted them for my 2016 year tax returns. Things started off the same, dropped of my paperwork and agreed to follow up and finalize my tax return. We weren't able to connect until the day taxes were due (April 18, 2017), cutting it a bit short and I could tell they hadn't really done much on my return, but ultimately I made the deadline and all was good. Then things got weird. I started contacting them in late April 2017 to arrange to pay them for their services and get my paperwork back (this is all over email only, nobody was picking the phone up at their offices). After 3 emails over a month they finally responded with some times for me to come by the office in late May, which didn't work due to my travel, so we agreed to find a time in early June. This was the last response from them on May 22, 2017. I've sent multiple emails since to no avail, I even went by their office and nothing. This is just so weird, I still have yet to pay them for their services earlier this year, you'd think they'd want to get paid for the work they did. I don't know if they are even still in business, I've since moved from the area and am at my wits end. All I want is to get my sensitive documents back and be done with this. I guess next step is to contact the BBB or file a tax preparer complaint - hoping this review will spur a response. read more

I hate writing reviews without actually doing business with a business but after waiting for someone to get back to me with an appointment I would never want to deal with an establishment that doesn't keep their word. I really hate to do this, as I have filed taxes here for the last two years without a hitch. This year I showed up on April 7, which is definitely pushing it for which I take full responsibility. Rather than being turned away, I was offered to file an extension, for which I verbally agreed. I emailed a couple of times in May to no avail. It is now September and I haven't heard back. I checked with the IRS and sure enough nothing was filed, not even an extension. For the person who said to beware of the negative reviews because we are procrastinators who want immediate refunds, sure, you can say that. That's not the case for everyone, including myself. I consciously agreed to filing an extension as I was not rushing my return. My reasoning for a negative review is for the lack of communication and honesty. Whatever may be going on, just letting me know that my taxes were not filed and that my extension was not submitted would have sufficed. Please shred the paperwork I turned into the office as I will be taking my business elsewhere. I never received a receipt of any kind for which I am not liable for any fees due as no services were rendered. I'm sorry to do this, as I really expected better. read more

Today was my first time doing my taxes alone, and I found this place on Yelp. I showed up fifteen minutes early to my appointment and I was greeted by Andrea. She was really friendly and helpful throughout the whole thing, and even showed me how to pulled up a tax form from my school's website. Other than the fact that the office is practically hidden (it's in the building AFTER Suzy's Furniture on Tully Road), everything was great. Andrea was really thorough with her answers when I had any questions and was really efficient with the time. When I called yesterday for an appointment, she said she'll squeeze me in and didn't want me to wait weeks for a quick visit, and I was in and out of there in about an hour! San Jose Tax Services is busy for a reason! They're the best in town! I've been to 4-5 other tax places and this place is hands down the best. Beware of the 1 star reviews. They are mostly from procrastinators who don't book their taxes early, literally coming in at the last minute and expecting to be expedited through everyone else. Paul and Andrea are extremely knowledgeable and always do their best to answer your questions, tailoring each case to your personal situation and finding the right deductions. Most other places don't care that much and literally plug your numbers in their computer to get your taxes done as soon as possible, charging more for doing less. Paul's rates are extremely reasonable, it's a steal for the peace of mind you get knowing that your taxes are being done by someone who really KNOWS their taxes. I'm very picky with tax services but this place has a lifetime customer in me. First off, I wanted to say I was amazed at the professionalism that was provided in getting my taxes done. An appointment is advised, but I called and was able to been seen right away. I first went to Liberty taxes to get an estimate for something simple that I could have done, just did not have the time. Liberty taxes was charging 4 times the amount for the same tax work. I decided to take my chances and call this tax preparer. I was able to get good knowledgeable feed back without feeling cheated like those other big corporations that have to pay a huge marketing fee for their advertisement budget. I liked that I did not have to sit there and wait for the forms to be completed. I was able to drop off all the necessary forms (W-2, school tax paper, etc) and then would get a phone call when my taxes were ready. They were very thorough and called to me asked questions they had (like how much did I really pay for my classes). Once things were ready, I went back to their office, got a hard copy and soft copy (emailed me the completed forms in a pdf format which was really nice).
