The park itself is approximately a 5 acre rectangle. The entire park appears to have recently undergone a total renovation. All of the play scapes, benches and picnic areas are like brand new. The playscapes themselves are really well designed. This is definitely one of the nicer neighborhood parks in the city.

There are two Pickleball courts, half basketball court and two playscapes. Behind the pool you'll find two fenced off dog parks, and a meandering trail goes to a wetland preserve. The trail continues behind many of the homes along the way. The pool requires a special residential access card, but the dog parks do not. Opposite the pool, and just across the street, there's another covered playscape with swings and a paved trail. A great asset to the local community.

It is a scenic stretch of property that runs across Boggy Creek and has some community gardens along the path which you can walk through. This community garden is known as Saint David's community gardens. Also, along the path you will find Downs Mabson baseball fields. This is a very welcome green space and path for all the residents who reside in the hundreds of apartments very nearby. There is no public bathrooms at the rail stop, but there is lone porta potty just down the gravel trail 100 yards away. Definitely a very nice asset to the local urban dwellers. The park has a bowl and various ramps, catering to experienced and novice alike. Parks like this tends to draw more skateboards than BMX. This park was no different - I think 80% were skaters. But I didn't see any hostility between skaters and bikers. And no one was territorial and acted as if they own the park. Even when little kids (under 5) got on to ride around, no one got mad at them or threw any attitude. Overall, everyone was pretty cool and were there just to have fun. If you go, few suggestions. 1) Wear at least a helmet. I didn't see any crashes, but as safety precaution, protect your head - especially if you have a little one. 2) Bring water - lots of it. There is no water fountain at the park (but a 7-11 just few blocks down). 3) Go early, especially if you have kids. Afternoon tends to draw out bigger kids/adults so it could be more dangerous if you have smaller kids. If you go early, it's still open enough that your kids can enjoy the park without worrying about getting in other people's ways. 4) Be careful if you're allergic to bee stings. Lots of empty soda cups draw bees. Even though the cleaning crew emptied out trash cans, I saw a lot of bees buzzing around. Couple of negatives - there is no shade so in the summer, it'll be HOT, especially when the sun bounces off the white concrete. Parking could be a challenge - we went on a Sunday so we were able to park at the lot (but requires a permit from Austin Rec Center on weekdays).

It's a hot summer weekday in Austin, and my friends and I hit up the Springs to cool off. We came a little after lunchtime, and while it was busy at the pool, it wasn't TOO bad as it probably is on a weekend. We set up base at a spot near a tree to collect a little shade and lathered up in sunscreen. The pool has strict rules of no food and drinks other than water, but it keeps the place clean and risk free, which is actually appreciated by me. The pool stays between 68°-70°, which is a temperature not too cold on impact, but still super relaxing to hang in. The pool is massive with plenty of people hanging around in all corners. It's a great spot in summer but definitely not a hidden gem. It's an extremely well-known gem. I'm curious how populous it is during peak times, but that random Wednesday afternoon was perfect. For…read more$5 per person, you get all day access to a public 68-70 degree pool filled by natural water from Edward's Aquifer. You can purchase tickets at a kiosk on site or online. While there is a parking lot in front of Barton Springs, it still belongs to the city of Austin and shares space with Zilker Park patrons. Make sure you pay for parking--parking enforcement is strict! A few guidelines: -No food, alcohol or glass allowed -No animals allowed -Floats, waters and foldable chairs allowed When you're setting up for the day, the further you are from the water, the flatter the land. The closer you are, the steeper it gets. As much as I'd love to trust in the people of Austin, petty theft can still happen, so keep an eye on your belongings. As mentioned, some may enjoy the water, some may not. For me, no matter how many times I tried to get in, I couldn't last more than two minutes due to how cold and deep it was! There are supposedly some shallow areas, but I couldn't find them, and now, I'll never know...

Review from Thursday, August 14th... Evening…read more This was our second pool we went to. Its an Austin Pool and its free to public. But be warned there are many kids...as it sits ON the school grounds!! The parking chaotic because its the school, but the pool itself is super nice. It got a little packed there for a while, no doubt. But the they offer floatation devices such as kick boards and noodles etc. There is one lap lane, I believe. The pool is from 4ft to 12'10" I think is what it said. There is a diving board as well, which is really nice. Fairly large pool, nice area. All concrete walk to and from. I liked it a lot. My kids and hubs did as well.

The small skate park has a great solid concrete construction, but it is pretty simple in its design due to its size. There's a couple of picnic tables and a trail that runs right next to it that leads to Bohl's Park next-door. You can use the public bathrooms at the rec center and there's one located in Boles Park. Plenty of parking at the rec center directly next-door. Great spot to bring your skateboard or BMX bike.
