Best hush puppies I've had anywhere, with no exaggeration. It has all the aesthetics of a repair shop waiting room, but still welcoming at the same time. And I hope they never change. Very Disappointed With the Customer Service If I could give this restaurant zero stars, I would. I went there to purchase three fish dinners and decided to order two crab cakes to try something different. Unfortunately, the crab cakes were absolutely disgusting. I called the restaurant to let them know about my experience, and I specifically told them that I wasn't asking for a refund. I simply wanted to use the $14 I spent toward something else in the future. I still had the crab cakes and was willing to bring them back. Instead, I was told that they use their own grease to cook them and that the owner said I could not bring them back or receive any credit. What really disappointed me was the lack of customer service. They would rather lose a loyal customer over $14 than try to make the situation right. I was going there three times a week, and every time I went, I was purchasing 3-4 dinners. I had even started recommending this restaurant to other people because I supported their business. But after this experience, they will no longer have my business, and I will not recommend them to anyone. Rollins and Graham on Armistead Avenue will have my business from now on. Customer service means a lot to me. It's not always about getting your money back--it's about how you treat your customers when something goes wrong. Recently purchased seafood dinners for my husband and myself to discover I had received the wrong meal. I drove across town to receive this meal and was very disappointed. I ordered a Croaker 3 piece dinner and received some unknown fish. I called the next day to try to receive my money back after driving back there the day before and they told me I couldn't do that to him. I was not told from the start they didn't have the fish I otherwise I have ordered something of my choice instead of them giving me some unknown fish and charging me for it. That was my last time ordering from them. I have noticed the service going down over the years since they have newcomers. Food is fry in old Grease so the fry food does not taste fresh I recommend you eat in the morning not at night.

I came here on a whim because I was looking for a fish market close to a family members house. What I didn't realize was that I lucked up on a gold mine. Not only did they have a large selection of fresh fish the prices were very affordable. Nothing was previously frozen and the fish were already scaled. Which is a really big deal for me because I hate scaling fish. I got the red scrapper and fresh shrimp but what I didn't realize is that any fish that they have available for purchase you can also have them prepare for you!!! I was able to get the most amazing fried soft shell crab sandwich, the fried catfish and the shrimp platter plus the fish for about $40! Which was unheard of. Everything was made fresh to order and was still piping hot when I got back home. It was the best fried food indulgence I've had in a really long time. In terms of COVID this business is practicing safe measures. You must have on a mask. Everyone working there has on a mask as well and they also have masks for purchase. Good if you just want to buy uncooked seafood! When they prepare food, EVERYTHING is fried! they'll give you a shit ton of French fries though. The lack of healthy food options is appalling and when I brought it to one of the sons attention that the sides are not that stellar, he told me "this is a business"! Ok I was in the middle of my reviwe when my husband decided to let the kid play a game and wipe out the whole review. Maybe that was a sign to I was being to generous with my stars. My mom says I was. Ok ok I'll revise. As I was saying before my review was wiped... I'm from Hampton but live in MD now. But I still come home for my seafood. My mom has learned to just have a 1 pound of shrimp and scallops ready for me when I come home. But I will say I was orginally basing my 4 star review on the quality of the seafood. My family usually buys the seafood in 1/4 pound increments and takes it home and makes our own sides. Well we have always done it that way so I'm just used to do that way. I have no basis to judge the sides. But I was informed by mom that we make our own because Martin's sides suck! lol Ok I've been told the selection is disappointing, no greens, the fries are greasy, and just in general you are better off making your own. And as much as I LOVE the seafood good quality, fresh, nicely seasoned light cloud batter, great portions on the sandwhichs (jumbo shrimp, scallops, and flounder are my favorite), that isn't the only part to the resturant and the rest leaves some things to be desired. After calling Martin Seafood, getting somewhat yelled at in a hard Asian accent, and then having falling expectations when my four dozen large male crabs would be ready in only five minutes, I decided to bite the bullet and drive out there since it was only 16.99 for a dozen. How they can charge so little for large male blue crabs is beyond me, but I have no complaints other than they could have used a bit more seasoning. Martin's is a fantastic seafood place. The food is always cooked fresh and is seasoned perfectly. I love their fried crabs when in season. I always get their seafood platter without fish (allergic) and it really gets you full. I only get the medium and eat off of it twice. So, imagine what a large would do. Woooowee!!!! read more

Martins Seafood is hands-down the cheapest place in Hampton Roads to buy "fresh seafood". Fresh meaning that it's caught out of the water daily, at the crack of dawn. I was raised on the Peninsula, but now live in Dc. Although the crabs are steamed very well here, and especially in B'More, there is NO seafood place in DC that compares to the fresh trout, croaker, spot, crab cakes, and oysters that are fried daily at Martins. This place is an oasis for me and my fiancé, whenever we come home to visit my family. The sides (e.g. Coleslaw, hush puppies, fries) are nothing more than average, but you don't go to a "fresh seafood" spot for immaculate sides, as sides are secondary to the main dish. For anyone who has eaten "fresh seafood", versus the seafood that's served in much more expensive places, you can notice the difference in quality of taste. For the price, Martins quality of fried seafood is the best in it's class! read more
