I probably have visited County Grill over a dozen times. It's a 5 out of 5 stars each time! The establishment is clean and spacious. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Their takeout is quick and easy. I've called ahead and picked up my order and I've also ordered takeout at the bar. Each time the food is made to order, hot, and delicious. My favorite items are the pulled chicken, baked beans and, of course, the cornbread! I enjoy other items as well. My boyfriend has had their pulled pork, meatloaf, and various sides as well. I ordered the Pick 2 with ribs and burnt tips, collard greens, and BBQ beans. We also ordered the Southern Carolina Barbecue sandwich with pit-roasted vegetables and French fries. We also shared the potato boats appetizer. Shortly after eating, both of us developed severe stomach pain followed by multiple extreme bowel movements. This was not a minor issue - it was intense, sudden, and clearly related to the food. The flavor was mediocre at best, but the aftermath was downright alarming. The potato salad was good. The pit master sandwhich was lowkey dry and kind of disappointing but could be doctored up with the sauces on the table. One thing to avoid in my opinion is the banana pudding. It's half merengue which is the first clue that it's not going to be good. The pudding itself also very tasteless. I don't like warm banana pudding though so if that's your vibe maybe you'd like it. The bread pudding is probably much better. read more

Great place to bring the team for outstanding BBQ! Deangelo 'Dee' took exceptional care of us. The atmosphere is wonderful and the service and food was excellent. I had the smoked wings. I'm very particular about my wings and these were juicy and full of flavor! When I turn into a mess (I did), then they gotta be good! Colleagues had the Mississippi Peacemaker stuffed bbq shrimp skewers and another had a half-rack of ribs. Those were yooge and meaty. But everything was tasty and perfectly prepared. Honestly, you get a good amount of meat for what you're paying. We got the Beef Brisket Platter which came with 3 very large slices of brisket with Memphis sauce (tendor and flavorful) and we got the fried Center Cut Pork Chop. The pork chops were thick with a crunchy breaded coat...seasoned just right. For the sides we ordered mashed potatoes and gravy, collard greens, and Mac n cheese. The sides had that southern flavor! The greens were my favorite--they're made just how I like to make mine at home. I was skeptical of the Mac n cheese bc it's pale and runny, BUT when I tried it, it was sooooo good. I can't even post a photo of our food because we literally devoured it. I will definitely be ordering from here again. Worst Experience Ever - Table 201 on June 8, 2025 Today, June 8, 2025, at 6:07 PM, I dined at Country Grill & Smokehouse at 1215 George Washington Memorial Highway, seated at Table 201. We ordered two BBQ meatloaf meals with two sides each, one root beer, one Sprite, and two house salads. Unfortunately, the entire meal was ruined by a disgusting fly problem. I felt like I was back in Iraq--constantly swatting flies away from our food. I personally killed four flies during the meal. It got so bad that we couldn't enjoy anything and had to ask the waitress for to-go trays. She brought them over, and I asked to speak with the manager. When he arrived, he didn't introduce himself, didn't apologize, and offered no real solution. All he said was, "I'll have to get some fly traps." That's it. Nothing about our ruined meal. No apology. No offer to make it right. At that point, we were done. We left the food, paid the bill, and even left a tip--but the experience was sickening. I rate this visit 0 out of 5. The manager clearly needs serious customer service training, and the restaurant needs urgent pest control. Absolutely unacceptable. read more

Overall... not very good. From the food to the service. Greeted and seated quickly, great. Sat at the bar since it was only thing available at the time. Then several tables/booths opened, I asked the bartender could I move to one. For some reason she wasn't sure o_O, odd. So I just stayed at this oddly made bar that's makes it hard to eat your food by way it dips down. Anywho... moving on to the order. I got the pick 3 for $30. Chose ribs, chicken wings and 1/2 chicken. In about 60 seconds I asked to change one of my meats to the smoke sausage. But same bartender stated that they said it was "too late"... hmm, okay. Also I ordered a sweet tea, took about 15 mins to arrive. She brought me some cornbread muffins to eat while I wait for my food, but nothing to drink. As you know with eating cornbread, I would choke trying to eat with no beverage lol. So I waited u til my drink finally came before I tried them. By now they're cold, but still delicious. (The best part of the meal) Food arrives... everything "looks good". My ribs were super dark, which means they were gonna be tough to chew... and yep, I took a bite and they were tough. Sighs Chicken wings were decent. Skin wasn't quite as crispy as I like, so when you bite the skin kinda slides off. But that's a personal thing that I prefer so not their fault. 1/2 chicken was good. Baked beans and "warm" potato salad as my two sides. I'm visiting Virginia, so warm potato salad must be a Virginia thing. I always had it cold But neither were very good. I took 3 bites and moved both to the side. Ordered the banana pudding to go. Got back to my hotel to eat it.... Not good. I tossed it. Waste of $8 for that but oh well. Literally the best part was was the cornbread muffins, they were delicious with the butter. Onto the service: Wasn't very good. I sat there with an empty cup for about 10-15 mins, with her walking by me several times without ever asking or paying attention. I'm literally sitting right where she's making everyone's drink... she has no choice but to see me. I purposely waited to see how long she would ever ask if I needed something again.. I must say that our waitress was fantastic. Unfortunately we waited over an hour for our food when we saw others get theirs that were seated after us. I like the variety of BBQ sauces at the table. My partner said his ribs were dry and he received veggies as a side, not collards. I had the pulled pork sandwich. And the BBQ egg rolls were great! We will go back I'm sure, but it won't be for dinner. The staffing is clearly an issue. The decor was interesting! Very much a Western theme. I thought the Buffalo head was a clever touch. I initially protested, but seeing as how it was after covid, its been 4 years after my last bad experience, i figured whats the harm, it could be better. Servers have never been the problem. But, surprise, they still dont know what burnt ends are. our waitress was great, however thats the good. The food was mediocre, and portion sizes arent good for the prices. Ordered a steak, my spouse ordered a bbq platter. Both were dry and over cooked. one friend ordered the brisket sandwhich, and it did look good and actually squeezed juice. the chicken tasted funny, not sure what the seasoning or brine they use, but that wasnt what i was expecting from a BBQ joint The sides arent not worth the portion size they give for what they charge. And the nachos.. well, ive had better at a pool hall and dennys at 3am My Star Rating System, since there cant be a 0 stars, I rank my decisions to eat somewhere again as: 1 star - if someone else buys it I won't eat it, I would rather go hungry. 2 star - if I'm hungry, no other options are open and someone buys it - I would consider eating it 3 star - I'm ok with eating it as long as someone else pays 4 star - I will eat again and pay for it and be a semi-regular customer 5 star - I will travel for good food and pay good money and be back on a regular basis and maybe even pay for yours just so we can go read more

County Grill is a Hampton restaurant serving BBQ - brisket, ribs, chicken wings, etc. They serve nice baskets of cornbread muffins with honey butter every meal. They also have homemade sauces at every table. The interior is very Southern and homey, kind of like a Cracker Barrel (which I love) and the staff were very kind and attentive. They placed a big parchment paper on the table for any mess, took our orders as soon as we were ready, and kept our drinks full. Overall though, their food ended up just okay for the price. Additionally, most of the items on the menu you can't really ask for them to leave something off cuz it's all made at the beginning of the day (for example, I couldn't order the BBQ shrimp without bacon) which is fine but it's good to know. I ordered the Friday Fish Fry (fried flounder) with mac and cheese and coleslaw. The fish was okay. I wasn't a fan of the skin, it was a little slimy. It had a fishy aftertaste, which obviously it's fish, but that taste isn't there in most seafood dishes. The breading was yummy and crispy, though, and it was a generous portion. The coleslaw was sweet which I liked. The mac and cheese didn't have a ton of flavor but was cooked right. My sister got a burger cooked rare with fries and mac and cheese. Except the burger looked more cooked medium well when it got to her. She still liked it and the fries were crispy and cool to taste all the sauces they have with it. My brother ordered brisket with fries and beans. The brisket was pretty dry and hard to chew. The beans had a nice smoky taste. And my mother ordered a pick 2 platter with ribs and pulled pork, beans, and coleslaw. My mom enjoyed her food and had no complaints. The ribs were tender and the BBQ pork was good with the sweet bbq sauce they have at the table. She also asked for a Blue Hawaiian which they kindly made and she said it was nice and strong. Overall, there are many other options at County Grill I'd be open to trying, but most of what we tried just ended up okay. I NEVER leave bad reviews... I'm a glass half full type of person. However, I'm really disappointed in the continuous horrible service at this location. I've called for the past 3 days trying to place an order for our General's going away tomorrow. I ordered almost $1,000 worth of food here at the end of last year for our unit function, & each time it's like I'm begging for a return call... then I walk in & the "busy" manager is behind the bar laughing it up with customers meanwhile I'm still waiting for a call back to place my catering order. Yet, I didn't complain I just left and ordered else where. No doubt in my mind when I called earlier this week that this is what was happening again. For starters, I called Tuesday and was told by a nice young lady that they only need 24 hours notice & to call back later in the week. I called today at 11am and was told by Xavier that the manager was busy and they would pass along my info & to expect a call by 2pm... well 2:30 rolls around so I call back then I'm told "sorry she's in a meeting can you call around 4pm"? .. yet I've been calling since the restaurant opened & for an order that needs a 24 hour minimum advanced notice. How does that work or make any logical sense? I know this isn't Xavier's fault, and they did all they could, they were actually super sweet and helpful. I ended up getting a call around 3pm but I had already placed an order else where. It was infuriating. Save your money & go to Yorktown's location. Interesting layout with entertaining signs all over the walls. Came here starving and left with more than one container of food to go. You get a good amount of food for your money and they have a good variety of sauces to choose from for your bbq. Our server was really friendly and patient because it took our party a while to order given everything on the menu sounded so appetizing. I got the 1/2 chicken with greens and macaroni and cheese. Went there for barbecue after doing a fishing charter. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced, literally half of what I thought it would be. They make their own barbecue sauces on site, fresh from ingredients, including Kansas, Memphis, Southwest, Texas and others. The portions were massive, my adult children, and I all brought back half of our meals. Additionally, the baked beans were excellent, some of the best I've ever had. I wish the burnt ends had a little more burnt on them because it seemed they just chopped the brisket and put bbq sauce on them. I had the mac and cheese and fries to go with it.
