I found him to be very trustworthy and knowledgeable in his field as an Oral Surgeon. I didn't know that he is a Trauma Oral Surgeon at RI Hospital ( Brown). I am glad that I have found him for my extensive oral surgery needs. The office personnel and staff are awesome and really helpful in settling my anxiety. They are friendly and supportive and professional. This was my 1st visit for a consultation and treatment plan. I needed a wisdom tooth removed. I live in Cranston and Dr. Elson practices in Cranston. Fellow Cranstonians-- and Dr. Elson has an excellent rating. I had an appointment in a day to take a look, ex-ray and so on. I was given an appointment for the next day for a not so easy extraction. The extraction was easy for Dr. Elson though! I received excellent care, there was a mix up with the referral and xray they needed, (not their fault). They straightened it out and I was good to go with the extraction. Dr Elson has a very calming nature and the staff were really sweet as well. I was put to sleep and that was a pleasant experience. I was a little nervous I would feel something, but I didn't! My wife Sharyn had a tooth extracted by Dr. Elson on 11/13/2024. We were very impressed by both the Doctor and the staff in his office. We had been to two other dentists previously, our family dentist and an endontist. Both of them reviewed x-rays and could see nothing wrong. Dr Elson looked at the same films and saw a crack in the root of the tooth that was bothering her. When he extracted the tooth he found pus in the area of the gum where the tooth was. one antibiotic and one week later all was better. And this had been bothering her over the course of a year! Why am I annoyed? Photo shows Instructions for me to arrive at 1:15 today for my first visit to Dr. Martin Elson's office. At 1:15 the door was locked, with a note 'the office team is lunching'. At 1:30 I was allowed in with two other patients. Those two and a third were taken into exam areas prior to me. Now it's 2:12p. Three staffers have asked questions, obtained signatures and my completed history form and payment, none have introduced themselves. When another staffer told me to sit down and the doctor would be in shortly I told her I had heard that 15 minutes ago. Her rude response was 'you need to calm down, the doctor has other patients. Dr. Elson has to be one of the chillest guys I've ever met. He's extremely personable and has a great bedside manner. He put my awkward 12 year old completely at ease for removal of 6 (yeah I said 6) baby teeth in preparation for braces. Fastest extraction ever. 30 minutes for 6 teeth. Dr. Elson and his team are amazing. From the front desk to the dental assistant- all very friendly and professional. My son said he felt nothing and experienced very little discomfort afterwards. My son needed an emergency extraction of 4 wisdom teeth. Dr. Elson was the only oral surgeon who would scheduled my son for an xray/consulation AND extract the commit to being able to extract the wisdom teeth the following day. I made the appointment within a week, and my son had all4 wisdom teeth pulled at once. He had no swelling and had a great recovery-thanks to Dr. Elson! I had called 5 other oral dentists they could not accommodate an emergency infection and subsequent extraction of wisdom teeth. I was "scared to death", but they calmed my fears. Dr. Elson is not only a skilled surgeon but a "true" humanitarian. My couple of experiences with Dr. Elson & his staff have been a delight! Just a couple of months ago my daughter (needle & dentist terrified) had to have a root from a baby tooth removed. She tried everything under the sun to avoid going to the OS but in the end she had no choice. Like a good mother I took her to see the OS that I trust & like (I had my wisdom teeth out here too) The staff takes care of all the insurance part. The consult is not covered by insurance. The nurse could see right away how terrified my daughter was and helped with a bubbly, super friendly attitude and this was only the consult! When the doctor came in he explained with great detail everything he was going to do & it seemed to calm her nerves. Skipping ahead to the appointment I was unsure how it would all unfold. Happily the staff & doctor took over and relieved any concerns she had. After she was ready for the procedure I stayed in the waiting room, being the worrisome mom, I knew she could read me like a open book and I would only make the situation tense. The doctor came out to get me as soon as she was done and told me everything went great! Indeed it had. Now in a few short weeks my teenage son will be seeing Dr. Elson for his wisdom teeth consult. read more

I have had the worst experienced in my life with doctor Elson. On monday february 7 i went to doctor elson to get my wisdom teeth pulled out this was the second time and the first time it went okay. The second one was horrible . Let me start by saying that he forgot to send my pain medication to the pharmacy the first day of the surgery. Then i had to called his office around 16 times in one day and even with that no one ever answer the phone. I had to show up in person. Then the next day when he actually got to send the medication the send over 80 oxycodone which when i went over to the pharmacy it was not ready again because they need to send it back to get approved again because of the amount. By the time i got it back it was tuesday at 8 pm. On wednesday i could open my mouth at all and my face was super swollen when i would touch i would feel a big ball and it would be very hot so i went back that day and thats when he finally prescribed an antibiotic when his assistant had said that i got infected and there was puss coming out. So i started my antibiotcis 3 days after the surgery when it was already infected. Then when he sees me he said that i should not working even thou i took off monday and tuesday then he took me off work thursday and friday . For one week straight i had to see him everyday and i would tell him and in a lot of pain and he would day that i was a drama queen in front of my mother and that everything was normal and he has seen worst. Very emphatic !! I go back in today for my follow up where i told him that i had no more antibiotics and was less swollen but still had the ball on my mouth and some pain. He said that the extra antibiotics were not needed but still gave them to me. And when he went to check my face he grabbed so hard i am still in pain so i said cono which means S*** in spanish. And this no the first time that he grabbed my face so hard to the point that i was uncontrollably crying in the past week. Then he proceeds to say that he is a DOCTOR and not no one from the street and that if i don't like him i can go somewhere else that he is not the only one. In conclusion Dr.elson lacks professionalism and empathy to his clients as stated in other reviews. If you want to get treated badly not get your medicine on time and be called a drama queen missed days of work for something that if he would have listen to his patient he could have caught it earlier and not let me be in AGONY come here! read more

Everyone's experience with getting their wisdom teeth removed is completely different. Mine wasn't so great. Not just because of the two infections I got but also because the doctor wasn't the most friendly. With the first infection, I had called the emergency number they provide you with since half my face was in excruciating pain. When I went in to get the infection checked, they were very rough and while I was blinded by the pain, the surgeon yelled at me to focus. It's really hard to focus when your face is throbbing, your infection just got stabbed and you're bleeding thanks. The second time I went back that week was for the regular check up. Once again gave me an attitude. It's unfortunate because the entire staff is extremely friendly and helpful. One of the nurses taught me how to use the syringe properly and gave me lots of tips. After all of that, I ended up with a second infection which I refused to go back and have checked. Luckily it cleared up on its own and I don't have to deal with that man again. *I will be honest, this business did contact me after leaving a negative review and asked for it to be changed since they don't want negative reviews. I'm pretty sure Yelp doesn't like that sort of thing. Everyone should be honest about their experiences with businesses on Yelp. read more

I cannot day enough great things about Dr. Elson and his staff. The office took me in, last minute, due to a wisdom tooth emergency. The reception and front of house was absolutely wonderful in coping with my forgetfulness, as I'd been in too much pain to remember where I had left my wallet days prior, was missing some insurance information, and couldn't remember crucial information, at the moment. Their staff was super understanding. Dr. Elson and his team took me in quickly and even looked for a solution to temporarily ease my pain until the day of the procedure. The day of my procedure, they once again were so helpful. The staff was so informative, giving me tips and tricks to ensure my recovery went smoothly. Their work was Immaculately done, and I was fully recovered and off my pain medication in 8 hours! I like to think I'm a tough nugget, but I believe most of the credit is due to the surgeon that did a clean and neat job with me. I cannot say enough good things about the friendly staff, the attentiveness of the surgeons, and the care and friendliness of all members of the team. Upon finding out that I had an infected wisdom tooth my regular dentist told me that I should have all 4 removed and scheduled me an appointment with Dr. Elsson. After hearing horror stories about dry socket I was nervous to have all of them removed. Dr. Elsson and gusbstaff immediately alleviated those nerves. They were pleasant, friendly and caring from the moment I checked into the office. Dr. Elsson himself was very warm and friendly. The procedure itself, all 4 teeth being extracted, was only about 30 minutes long and he did a beautiful job. They gave me very detailed care instructions for afterwards and had me come back to the office a few days later to check that everything was healing well. I cannot begin to say how wonderful Dr. Elson, Linda and the staff are. They helped me schedule the consultation and surgery quickly, on dates and times that would work for my busy schedule. I called so many times! Upon arrival for the consultation I was greeted warmly and had some laughs with Dr. Elson, and going through the insurance process wasn't as painful as I thought it would be! They were patient and answered a lot of my questions. Surgery went well and everyone explained how recovery will work. I didn't leave with questions... usually when I'm given a lot of important information I'll end up thinking "shoot, what did they say?" But I'm all set. I have been to Dr. Elson several times to have teeth removed. His staff and himself have the best personalities, they know when to joke (to make you feel at ease) but are also very professional. I was very apprehensive, as I eventually ended up having all my teeth taken out. Let me tell you, I think if I had gone to someone else, I either wouldn't have gone through with the procedures, or I would have walked out of the office each time crying. Yes, it's a vanity issue. They made me feel so comfortable, and continued to reassure me. I am going to miss going there and seeing everyone. I told them I highly recommend them and if anyone I recommended goes there, I'd go with them so I could say hello. I was told to stop in any time just to say hello. As for insurance issues, I had absolutely no problems, Crystal always checked and let me know that I was covered and that there was money for whatever procedure I was having. I purchased Delta Dental RI insurance in December and began active in January. After having a cleaning my dentist suggested that I get my wisdom teeth out. It was not a life-threatening matter, but it would make me more comfortable. After consulting with Dr. Elson I went through the surgery. Money is an issue for me, so I was sure to ask Dr. Elson about any costs there would be to me, even if something went wrong. I also asked the billing clerk, Crystal, to check the costs and fees, and she did this twice. Additionally, I asked that she call my insurance company to make sure. My total copay for the surgery was to be $80. On the day of the surgery, I confirmed once more with Crystal that it was the correct amount. I do not have internet access to check the Delta Dental website, so I trusted that these professionals (who's job it is to check insurance) provided me with the correct information. Now, I have received a bill for $1,400 because I was not through the 6 month waiting period before getting the surgery. If I had known there was a waiting period, I would never had gotten the surgery at that time. I have consulted with Crystal, and she apparently disregarded my request of calling the insurance company and opted to look online instead. Seemingly, both her and Dr. Elson were unable to find the information pertaining to my waiting period when they checked. However I called Delta Dental and spoke with the Director of Customer Service, Marianne Perri, and she explained that all the information is provided online and given to dentist offices. It concerns me that those professionals, who check clients' insurance for a living, were unable to find the terms of the waiting period. Apparently Dr. Elson uses a computer system that does not accurately obtain all of the client's insurance information. Clearly there is a fault in the system between insurance and doctor. This is not the client's issue, but rather the provider who has chosen to rely on this system. As for checking the benefits myself, not only do I not have internet access to look at Delta Dental's benefit page, but Crystal assured me that she had checked correctly and those were my fees for the surgery. Furthermore,I never signed any document stating that looking up benefits was my responsibility, nor was this ever explained to me by anyone at anytime. I was also never told that the fee could change at any time, even post-surgery. I am deeply concerned that Dr. Elson does not explain this to his clients, and also that the communication between insurance and dentist office is so poor. It is unfortunate that this will probably happen to multiple people who trust the professionals to do their job correctly. read more

I started to have tooth pain on a Thursday, so I just took some Ibuprofen and went on with my day. Friday the tooth pain came back and Friday night I couldn't get any sleep. I made an emergent appointment with my dentist, they took x-rays and come to find out the pain was coming from a tooth I had a root canal done on years ago it was infected. He started me on a Z pack and told me to continue to take the ibuprofen as needed. He referred me to an oral surgeon but it was a long weekend and they wouldn't be open until Tuesday. Saturday night the pain was terrible, on Sunday morning I called the emergency number from the dentists office and they ordered me acetaminophen with codeine for pain. Still no relief, I ended up at the RI hospital ER where they gave me two shots of Novocain and a prescription for Percocet. Sunday night I slept a little better but still not well. Monday which was a holiday I was still in pain and we tried everything ice, heat, Benadryl, Novocain, z-pack, acetaminophen with codeine, and Percocet and still no relief. Monday night I ended up at Kent Hospital ER and they too gave me a shot of Novocain and an intravenous drug Dilaudid. That helped me sleep for a while but when I woke pain was back. They did a cat scan to rule out an abscess, which there wasn't one. They sent me home with a new antibiotic Clyndamycin. Finally Tuesday arrived and I got into Dr. Elson's office for 11:15. As soon as I walked in those doors they knew how much pain I had been in and saw me right away. The dental assistant who took me to the exam room was absolutely furious at the lack of care I had received over the past two days. They did an X-ray and told me my tooth was fractured and that it needed to be extracted. All I wanted over the weekend was for a doctor to take an interest and concern for me and my pain and I didn't receive that until I went into Dr. Elson's office. They extracted the tooth and yes I am still sore but my pain is gone. The next day I had a follow up and the entire staff remembered my name and were all so happy to see me out of pain. My tooth is healing well so far, but I am so thankful for the team at Dr. Elson's office. I wouldn't wish tooth/nerve pain on anyone, but I would recommend Dr. Elson to anyone who needs oral surgery. read more
