My wife had an appointment with Martino today for a wig due to cancer and chemotherapy. This guy is 100% genuine and caring. He made my wife feel comfortable right off the bat! Please understand, I am writing this review with tears in my eyes. My beautiful daughter in law was diagnosed with cancer. She has been through so much in the last few months. I do everything in my power to help her and my son, to get through this. A good friend referred me to Martino Cartier Salon and their Wigs and Wishes charity. I made the appointment not knowing what exactly to expect. Please know that my daughter in law has shown so much strength and grace throughout this fight. We shaved her head after her first treatment. She didn't loose her hair until her third treatment. It was traumatic. It was the first time she stated that she had cancer. We had her wig appointment today. She was nervous. She has dyed her hair for years. Most recently, it has been purple. Though they didn't have a purple wig, Lianne was so beyond kind and found a wig that complimented her style. To make her feel more like herself, she added some colored extensions. On our way home, she kept looking in the mirror. I thought it was so sweet. Then she told me that she hadn't been looking at herself in the mirror because she didn't like the stranger who stared back at her. This brought a tear to my eye. Martino Cartier's salon, is five stars enough? I think not. Absolutely phenomenal!!! I went on a Saturday morning and boy were they busy! However, despite full stations, it didn't feel like that. Each station operated so smoothly and efficiently. Never rushed. Very thorough, attentive, and comfortable!! I am a people watcher. I feel like a lot of people are but don't admit it. Every employee was happy and filled with love and passion for what they do. I watched each hair dresser. Each taking their time making a connection with their client and making sure their client knew they were special. Even the owner, Martino!! I was impressed. He spent so much time with each client. If you're looking for the gaudiest salon in town with terrible service, this is the place to go. I had not gotten a proper haircut in some years due to the pandemic, and I've heard about all good things Martino has done for the community, so I decided to try this place out. It is a textbook example of narcissism. The place is littered with his quotes, pictures of his face, and the logo branded on almost every single product (including the hair dryers that hang from the ceiling). A little off-putting, but I'll admire the confidence. Talk about off-brand Versace decor. There are giant mirrored lions, large fish statues, and tacky gold furniture pieces sprinkled throughout the salon. There's a baby grand piano with no one to play it. It's a lot to take in. I would not recommend this place for those with sensory issues or people of color. The sound of hair dryers is non-stop and very loud, and all the furniture is pretty overwhelming. The woman at the front desk greeted several women in front of me kindly, yet refused to acknowledge my existence until I called her attention. I also waited for 30 minutes past my appointment time without any update on why it was taking so long. There were so many employees for a non-peak time and very few customers, so I didn't understand the delay. Regarding the haircut, I paid $70 for a woman to use clippers on my hair. Next time my child can do this at home for the price of free (and a fraction of the hassle). read more

I too see Lauren D and she gave me a fantastic cut. She took her time making sure it's what I wanted because I explained the last place I went (HG) took my hair from shoulder length to a cheek length bowl cut, I asked for a diagonal (forward) bob. It's one of the most common haircuts. Anywho, she hooked a sister up! I'm so pleased and I have another appt tomorrow to go short now that I have a trusted stylist. I can't recommend Lauren enough! Prices are higher than average, cuts are $50 and up. They do not tell you the price before you start, I got a partial highlight and I believe it was $100 with the toner that washed out the first wash. I have been to this salon twice now. I initially came to Martino Cartier Salon because a friend recommended it to me as a popular local salon. I have natural dark brown hair with a blonde balayage. My first visit (over a year ago) I was looking to turn my blonde balayage gray. It wasn't exactly the gray I was looking for and it completely washed out after 1 wash. I called the salon and Jessie, my stylist, redid it for me and even gave me complimentary purple shampoo and conditioner. When she redid my hair she left a lot of toner in it, so it was purple for a couple of weeks and gray for about 1 week. Now, a year later, I received a coupon in my email for 25% off, so I decided to give the salon another try because they were fairly accommodating. Unfortunately, this time was no different. I wanted to dye over my blonde balayage to make it a light brown, but Jessie only toned it. So naturally, it completely washed out after 1 wash (note- I only wash my hair once a week.) I absolutely do not recommend Martino Cartier Salon, or at the very least, my stylist. Jessie is the location's manager, but she always looks miserable and she is never conversational. Her assistant does more work than she does. I also dislike how you're left completely in the dark about the process from start to finish and even the prices. I don't like that I don't receive a receipt after I pay. I know they are trying to portray themselves a "luxury" salon, but I'd still like to know what I'm paying for. read more

Love Martino! He's been a south jersey staple for as long as I can remember from his little shop in Pitman, NJ to his place in Sewell. I have not had my hair cut professionally many times in my 37 yrs because of fear of a bad cut but Martino took care of me the first two times and he did exactly what I asked for. Not only is he an amazing stylist but the 3rd time I came in one of his employees who I spent a long time with did an awesome job. I love the atmosphere and everyone is always super friendly and accommodating. Not only does he serve the community but his charity wigs n wishes has done amazing things for women with cancer who have lost their hair due to chemo. I had a first time appointment at the salon for just a cut and blow dry. I showed the stylist a picture of what I as looking for. I was so disappointed the cut I was given looks nothing at all like the photo. About 4 inches shorter than the picture. I will never return here again. I agree with the other post about their Groupon practices-- Horrible! I purchased the Groupon for the Haircut, Style, Blow Dry, Deep Condition, and One Step Color. The Groupon said the value was $175 for all of this. I asked Stephanie for the breakdown of each $54 one step color (that's only for the roots and they will NOT pull it through to the ends of your hair --why you may ask, it's so that they can up-charge you $35 for a gloss which the stylist will tell you that you NEED if it won't look right!! Rip Off!! My hair is short and I should have just pulled through the color myself!!! Stephanie said a full color is $75 depending on hair length! Wow - just for them to work it through to the ends an additional $21!!! So, conditioner was $30, haircut was $70 (but first she said $56) plus $20 for "styling" just to use a flat iron on it which it didn't need but it was included in the Groupon...and yes, there is a "facility fee" of $5, for what I don't know! Anyway I feel like either Groupon should explain that one step color is just roots, although I've always thought that it means not anything more, such as a glaze or highlights - that would be separate. Stay away from this salon, they nickel and dime you for everything just to get more money and a bigger tip!! read more

This Walmart off brand Versace wanna be salon does not even deserve one full star. I fully explained what service I wanted when I scheduled an appointment. When I got to the salon the hair dresser says she doesn't have time because she's done working at 5. My appointment was for 4pm. Despite me very clearly explaining exactly what I needed over the phone they still booked me for the wrong amount of time. They wouldn't do anything to fix the situation either. They just told me to come back another time because they close at 5. Seemed like these hair dressers were more concerned about clocking out than taking care of a client. Unfortunately, my last experience was just awful. I made my appointment for touch up, full head of highlights and a cut. When I called to make my appointment I specifically mentioned that needed a good amount of time bc I have an insane amount of hair. The receptionist seemed confident that she had given me enough time during scheduling. I waited for my appointment everyday getting more and more excited. Quarantine had me feeling just yucky!! So then my day my finally came and I was so excited! Everything started out fine as per usual but I felt that she was a bit rushed. After highlights were in I went to get washed and toned by an assistant. Again everything went as per usual except that the women doing my hair comes running by and says "i just need to do this highlight real quick". This kinda irritated my bc I knew that this would require a good amount of time and I was just finishing up my wash and ready to get cut. I was brought back to my stylist chair and then left there. I kept looking at my watch as I sat there like a wet dog with soaking wet hair in the air conditioning freezing my butt off. I tried to be patient, but after a 35 minutes I was too cold and too frustrated to wait any longer. I went up to the receptionist and said I just wanted to pay and leave. My stylist came up briefly and looked at my hair and said "well your highlights good". I was thinking how can you even tell as its half wet half dry at this point. Nobody apologized or even looked at all concerned with what I just experienced. I was kind of in shock but I paid the $275 I was charged for half done hair and left and cried the whole way home. I did call to try and explain how upset I was and the receptionist that answered the phone was just plain rude and did not give a shit about the way I was feeling or what I just experienced. In fact, she didn't even say goodbye, she just hung up. That was the kicker for me as I explained when making my appointment that I needed extra time for my services. I guess making money is more important than keeping customers happy. Then when I got home and actually blow dried my hair, I saw that the toner had taken out all the blonde I just paid for and my forehead was now brownish/red from all the color that was left on my face. Oh and I was charged extra for the color they used on my head..maybe more on the head and less on the face?!?! I have never been so unhappy. I will not be returning. I spend an average of $1200/yr at this place..no more! Update-My sister called the salon for me and did speak to the owner who was even ruder then the women that I spoke to on the phone. Fantastic salon, all around. I recommend Lauren. She's a great stylist, easy to work with, and comfortable to talk to and ask questions. She's great to help you into a new style or to freshen up your go-to 'do. She's easy to be honest with, if you don't like something, tell her. Like I said, very easy to talk to. You'll definitely feel comfortable in here. Everyone is friendly. And it's obvious they are all skilled. The salon offers a lot of services. Think Brazilian blow out, keratin, extensions, makeup, in addition to the regular cut and color. And the "regular" cut and color isn't so standard. Their products are high quality. The salon owner even has his own line, which he also sells on QVC. Speaking of... Martino gives back to the community. He holds a couple of benefits for children with cancer (Wigs and Wishes), and donates free wigs to both children and women with cancer. Amazing!!! Martino is nothing short of a pompous, tacky, classless, wannabe Versace looking jerk! I purchased a Groupon which I never should have done and had a hair consultation with Bonnie who was miserable and bitchy. First sign that this was a bad idea. I brought it up to Martino's attention so he apologized and made me an appointment with Liann. I came in and had my hair done a few weeks later. I was there for 6 hours today. I wanted Carmel/blonde balayage but she turned me ginger. Then had to tone it down. Overall, I was satisfied. She and her assistant were very pleasant. It turned sour from there. Stephanie the front desk coordinator needs an attitude adjustment as well as coaching on not talking about customers behind their backs or in actuality through her mask. The entire time I was there, she talked about me to Kelly and Chrissy. Every time I looked up, they kept staring at me and had some nonverbal communication going on. I went to pay and Stephanie checked me out. Rude, rude, rude. She redeemed my voucher before I paid. Gave me a breakdown of what I paid and mind you it wasn't cheap. I questioned why my Groupon voucher didn't redeem at the price I paid and she gave me some stupid answer and then called her boss, Gianna, who gave her a more stupid answer. They then told me to call Groupon to check. All lies and deceit. I have never ever heard of a business robbing part of your Groupon payment and then making some lame excuse for it. There was some hidden Covid fee in there as well. I texted the owner as he had given me his cell phone number prior and he was even more rude, unprofessional, aggressive, and narcissistic. I offered him my condolences since his mother passed and asked if he could clarify why I was charged incorrectly. I understand he's out of town twirling and curling hair with Paula Abdul who is old news, but he made it seem like he had bigger fish to fry and even though I spent close to $400 with my Groupon he didn't care. He asked sarcastically "is this over $11?" Basically implying how cheap I'm being when it's the other way around. I said it's the principle. We went back n forth via text and he called to scream at me and told me to shut my mouth upon which I did tell him go fly a kite in a not so nice way and then I hung up the phone on him. God forbid you question him!! He texted me that I was so nasty to him even though his mother died and he was planning her funeral. I understand he is grieving, which is why his staff should have been competent to resolve a simple issue. Honestly speaking he's nasty all the time I hear. Anyone that questions him or disagrees with him, he cannot handle. He becomes belligerent and is so manipulative. I experienced this firsthand. He then proceeded to call me psycho and to tell me he loves me because I'm a client. Hmmm wonder who the deranged one is here??? He also told me he was blocking me after I told him he was so ridiculous and unprofessional for yelling at me and I asked him to stop corresponding with me. He threatened me and said go ahead and post this but you will be attacked. I'm sure he has trolls looking out for him who delete reviews, post fake nice reviews, and write rebuttals for every bad review. His ego is ridiculous and he can't handle someone telling him he's wrong. His customer service is awful. He partakes in charity work as a coverup for his nasty temper. Will be donating my hair products I purchased from his salon and I will definitely be getting my hair redone somewhere else and will never ever step foot in his salon or recommend him to anyone! Just got a balayage done at this salon by Lianne. My hair looks fantastic! I would highly recommend this salon. However, the lady who cashed me out was incredibly rude. She is heavyset with a short tapered red hairstyle. She didn't say two words to me, not even a thank you! She did not inform me that it was cash tips only. Also, she kept answering phone calls during the transaction. It literally took me twelve minutes to pay for my service. From the second you're greeted by the front desk staff you just know you're somewhere special. The staff is very attentive and I've never been there without being asked if I would like a bottle of water or a cup of coffee. The interior of this place is great and has some really cool design features like portraits of those who work there on the ceiling over the hair washing station to give you something to look at while your hair is being washed! This place boasts many talented people however, it isn't intimidating like other places. A haircut is an extension of your personal expression and sometimes it's necessary to invest in something that will enhance the way you express yourself. To some people paying $50 for a haircut is expensive, and I can understand that (believe me, I'm a poor college student, I understand), however, like I said make it into an investment (it'll be worth it). I'm sure all of you at one time in your life have had that PERFECT cut, you know the one that made you feel like a million bucks and gave you that extra boost of confidence you needed. Well, I get that every time I go here and hey, maybe you will too. Bottom line is if you don't want to dish out that kind of cash for something like a trim, then don't go but when you're looking to try something completely new be it a color, highlights, keratin treatment, or style you aren't gonna hear me suggesting you go to your neighborhood Hair Cuttery. Martino has a very talented arsenal of people working here. I personally go to Nancy, tell her I sent you. She has been doing my hair since I was two or three, we lost contact for awhile and then reunited once I found her here. There are many a times when I have gone in with an incomplete idea and have come out looking better than I could have even imagined. I have never been made to feel so insecure and upset as I did today at this salon. I was greeted with an attitude by not just one wig stylist, but the boss himself. I went back to this salon because the wig I received from them did not fit my head properly. The wig clearly looked like a wig due to the mesh in the front not blending in with my forehead. When i expressed my concerns today in hopes of a solution, I got nothing. I was told it was supposed to look like that. What, the wig is supposed to look fake??!! Instead of the wig being fixed, I was given the "how dare you waste my time" attitude. It is hard enough dealing with cancer and the daily challenges I face so walking into a salon that promotes "Wigs for Wishes" I expected to be treated kindly with respect.
