I tried to have a prescription for adderol filled. There is a shortage and I understand that. First of all, they don't allow you to refill a controlled drug unless you do a non controlled drug at the same time. They didn't consider me a customer because I last filled a prescription three months ago. I became the bottom priority. I had called earlier that day around 2 pm and was told that they had enough to fill the prescription. Two hours later I was called to say their supply ran out. That was hard to believe. The Pharm tech told me she understood and was on the same med and she couldn't get hers refilled. Again, hard to believe. I was a regular customer in the past and do my vaccines there. I explained that I'm going out of town and need to take care of my nephew who is in hospice. I won't go there again. It's like having to join a country club to get a prescription filled. read more

We had a fantastic experience getting my 15 year-old daughter her flu shot thanks to Freddy and Catherine and the other lovely lady behind the counter. The issue is and reason for the one (1) star is: Martin's advertises flu shots for adults for $25.00 yet they requested $49.00 from me at my appointment. Attached is a photo of their prices from their website. When we arrived home I called Martin's and texted the screen shot to Chris who said he needed to get with the Pharmacist. Ashley was adamant about not honoring the advertised price saying this was information from years ago and swore there were dates on the page. No dates whatsover as this is their current website. Also, she kept repeating herself and when I tried to explain, hung up on me. She seemed most flustered and appeared to want a reason to end the phone call. Say what? This is deceptive advertising for flu shots. I plan to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for deceptive trade practices. This is an issue of principle. I've had the worst experience with Martin's wellness over and over. They really need to get it together. On mofe than one occasion over charging me not checking with me or my insurance and coupon on file before charging my card on file. They charged me for medicine that was never approved for purchase by me. Then when I came back they had the nerve to say I've already been charged. I had to get a refund because they never bothered to do their job telling me what the price is before charging my account. Medicine that I never received and was fraudulently charged for. I had to inform them that they had charged me for multiple prescriptions that were never picked up. This place is unethical and frankly, dangerous in its incompetence. Their license to dispense pharmaceuticals should be terminated before they kill someone with their glaring incompetence. read more

I am awarding more stars-GS ORIGINAL POST: This customer erred by not keeping (maybe not even requesting) his receipt for half-price sunglasses ($25 cost) sold next to the pharmacy counter. A temple on the new glasses started going askew about 2 weeks later so I ventured back to Martin's, at my wife's suggestion, to seek a swap-out--the askewed glasses for an identical replacement pair. No go without the receipt, cashier said. When I pointed out that I obviously also had the glasses pouch from the purchase--perhaps a sign I'd bought the glasses there--the cashier didn't engage; he went silent, staring into his big screen. Ok, I've been with South Lamar Plaza Drug Pharmacy for about 15 years. No day goes by without the most honorable and respectful staff one can ever wish for. Aside from the gorgeous pharmacist and the grit they possess it's almost unnatural in the world today. They are true angels of medicine, and they have gone above and beyond to cater to all individuals who use them. A little story, no exaggeration, just exactly what happened: I had made a mistake and accidentally misplaced about 1-2 weeks of buprinorphine. Buprinorphine is a nasty substance to detox from, I'm talking 14 days and a weekend of complete, miserable pain, insomnia, body aches cold sweats, man.., there I was, right before Thanksgiving.., already 4 days into detox. I felt so weak, and I was so unhappy that I would not see someone who I might never see again. The staff took notice of my emotional distress, other places wouldn't give two cents for care. The incredibly beautiful men and women of SLPD/ Martins, they got together and made an early release happen. Maybe it wasn't them... but I suspect they are the ones who saved my holiday. They used to be a great neighborhood pharmacy. Now, they're a mess. I ignored the warning signs on my last two visits but this is the last time I'm using them. I take a prescription injection. I travel a lot and messing with the 1ml vials costs me a lot in breakage and mess. I took the time to talk to my doc, to change my prescription to 10ML to get a big single bottle, and I took the time to call Martin pharmacy and speak to a disinterested pharmacist who told me they would have to order the bottle and I would have to wait for a few days. I did, despite not wanting too... and yet when I came in there were all ten little bottles all lined up. I asked if they could transfer to a 10ML bottle for me "no"... really??? I asked if they could order me the vial if do it myself... "no".... They're rude. They're disinterested. And I'm no longer interested in giving them the benefit of the doubt. Horrible customer service. Every pharmacy tech I've interacted with has lacked basic clear and consistent communication skills (one raised her voice at me when I arrive a few minutes before closing to pick up an Rx that was already paid for - very unprofessional). Not to mention, the pharmacy follows generally unacceptable and unethical business practices. They have confirmed charging my card on file via text several times for a recurring monthly Rx that is constantly in shortage/unavailable at other pharmacies. Due to this, they fill the Rx asap without confirming if it needs to be refilled, sometimes before the 30-day supply runs out, which is against DEA regulations and Texas State Board of Pharmacy guidance. While auto-refills may seem convenient, once the Rx is filled, the pharmacy will only hold it for 14 days - which was never communicated until I pay for the Rx using the card on file and show up to pick up the Rx the following week only to learn it's unavailable as it has been re-shelved. Last month, I reached an agreement with a supervisor that they would courier the Rx to my doorstep every month to solve this problem of me not picking up the Rx timely as they fill it prior to me needing the refill - great news! I received my Rx in June via courier service without issues. Then, my HSA card on file was charged for the Rx co-pay plus $10 delivery fee today without any notice or prior communication. The IRS has very specific federal tax guidance governing the use of HSA funds, delivery fees do not qualify. I questioned the charge as I was not charged a fee for the last delivery via the same courier in June. Also, I offered to pay the $10 delivery fee using a different card. Instead of admitting failure to communicate the $10 delivery fee and unethical error in charging HSA card on file without my authorization/agreement, the pharmacy responded that they refunded the HSA card for the Rx co-pay and $10 delivery fee, stating the Rx would be available to pickup for the next 14 days and that this will be the last Rx that Lamar Plaza will be able to fill for me. Avoid at all costs, not a friendly small mom & pop business willing to work with a disabled patient. read more

I came here to get my infant son his COVID vaccine. The staff was super friendly, we easily found parking and we were in and out. It's in a shopping center on South Lamar. We made a COVID pediatric appointment online. When we arrived they let us know that we needed a Rx for the vaccine but were able to get us one on the spot. And the attendant who gave my son his vaccine was great. Highly recommend for other parents hoping to get their kids vaccinated. It is one of the few pharmacies in Austin that carry the pediatric vaccine. read more

My husband just got a new job and the old insurance was running out. We had two days to find a 90 day supply of one of his prescriptions. Of course, our usual pharmacy didn't have a 90 day supply of the prescription and was not willing to work with us. Immediately my husband and I started to call all around the local Austin area to all the pharmacies that were in network with our health insurance network to fill a 90 day supply. I happened to call Martin's wellness pharmacy and they were could help us out. YAH!! We both were extremely happy about this since it solved a problem. The staff was super friendly on the phone and when we picked up the prescription since they had been sympathic to the situation. What an exceptional experience! I went to Martin's for the first time today to have a prescription filled for my cat, Dewey. When I I walked in, I was greeted immediately. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful! The Pharmacist even reviewed the instructions with me on how to administer the medication and made sure I felt comfortable with everything before leaving. They also let me know that they offer free delivery which is such a convenient service, especially since I raced there from the other side of town to ensure I made it there before they closed for the evening. Their location is conveniently located in the Lamar Plaza Shopping Center off of South Lamar by Starbucks, Chi'Lantro and One2One Bar. I will absolutely be back to support this local business! read more

Especially since express scripts has been trying to get me to have a baby by effing up my birth control RX like 4 times this past year. There is only so many times you mess with my world before I drop your ass like a bad habit. Lamar plaza drug store is the quaint shop on the corner. They are dog friendly, and always know Tucker and I when we come in. Tucker knows where the treats are, and they gladly give him as many as he would like. Everyone there is super personal, nice, and friendly. It's easy to get to, and can get in and out quickly. They always have what I need and they also offer compounding, wellness coaching, and even have a few alternative medication for the local hippies. I love this little drug store! This is by far the best drug store I have ever visited when it comes to filling prescriptions. I have an online account set up, so its always easy to request a refill. When I show up a few hours later, I'm usually the only one there & the prescription is always ready for me. I literally spend about 2 minutes there every time I go in. Whenever I have a new prescription to be filled, they are always very quick to fill it (maybe 10 minutes?), make sure that I understand how to take the medication, and always ask if I have any questions. This place is under new ownership since Alexandra's review... and I believe it's gotten better. I was just negatively reviewing Walgreen's so I figured it's high time to sing the praises of the new and improved Lamar Plaza Drug Store. All of the good elements of the old charm stuff from the old store remain, with none of the bad. I found one or 2 of each of the generic OTCs I needed on the shelf; still not huge stock of each product, but expiration dates far in the future. They still have some grandma gifts, but their clinic now also features a holistic healer! Here's my big geek-out: I was thrilled to find Dr. Scholl's small corn pads for $2.50 a pack! My feet are fine, but I use a couple dozen packs of these every year for teaching young violin students how to hold their bows... little by little stores all over Austin have stopped carrying these (no longer at Target, CVS, HEB - I thought Randall's was the only place left, charging $4 a pack!). And the friendly helpful staff were more than willing to make a special order for me. I'll be back. And I'll probably never go to Walgreen's again. read more

The new store is what it is at next to Starbucks on South Lamar were the pool hall once was it is so sterile looking and so organize and yet still all the friendly people that have always been there, they do deliver but I prefer to pick up my medicne. They have a wonderful collection of all the vitamins you could ever need.,I strongly suggest that you swith your meds to a pharmacy that really cares about what you are taking and have real people to talk too . It is hard to not spend money in there because even though you go for your prescription it is a strange healthy feelng you get just going in there. read more

This is by far the best pharmacy i have EVER been to! I was nervous coming here simply because i was so used to going to HEB , CVS or Walgreens. Picking up medication to me seemed very "blah". Walk in say "Hi" get you mends, pay then leave. But the staff here has been very polite, extremely helpful and are always willing to help with anything. I lost my job in March which for me meant that i also lost my insurance. I have a few prescriptions that are CRAZY expensive and i was very scared that i was not going to be able to get them due to price. Kim and her team stepped in and helped me out with an assistance program from the manufacture which ended up being no cost to me! She was very helpful and concerned with my situation. The follow up to make sure i was doing great with all my meds and also to remind me that i needed a refill is stellar! Kim would also ask about my job search and how things were going, She was genuinely concerned. I am now employed with insurance again as of Aug 1 and Kim and her team has stepped in one again and helped me with all my prescriptions and have also helped with cutting down my out-of-pocket cost! Updated: the pharmacist met me when I arrived and assured me the staff had been trained to avoid this happening in the future which I appreciate. Can't get my thyroid prescription right. Half filled it and didn't tell me, never called me when the test came in, I called in to find out when I would have it and was told it would be ready in an hour. I show up an hour later and they are out of it. They set it up for delivery today and they never delivered it although told me they came by and called. We were here all day and no call. Don't let the antiquated yellow tile or the old sign on the exterior fool you - there is no soda fountain or lunch counter inside. But it is still an old-fashioned drug store in many respects. The pharmacist's curved counter is the heart of the small store, visible from every corner. You can get prescription drugs at the LPDS, but you can also get cutesy schmootsy gifts for your grandparents, buy some mac'n'cheese and apple juice, or send a UPS package. I was especially amused by the canned and boxed foods section (there are no aisles in this small drug store). They were displayed on a wire metal shelf, and there was one of each item. Actually, it resembled my pantry more than it did a store shelf. Most of the items in the shop were in single quantities. And it seemed as if they'd been there a very long time. There was also an interesting collection of literature and information by the prescription drug counter: New Testament cliff notes, herbal supplement pamphlets, and books on tape about how to bring excitement back to "his" or "her" life (the photo on the front cover showed a woman in her 30s or 40s with very feathered hair and purplish/aqua polyester dress standing in front of a chalkboard). Martin Pharmacy was absolutely amazing in helping me with an issue with an insurance denial on a very expensive specialty medication. They were friendly and assisted with every step of the process including filing the paperwork and communicating with my doctor. After all of their hard work to get the approval, my insurance unfortunately insisted I use the insurance specialty pharmacy to fill the prescription. Martin pharmacy was still above and beyond understanding and friendly and transferred the prescription. Customer service like this is rare these days. I cannot recommend them enough for your pharmacy needs. Even though they are a 40 minute drive from my house I will definitely give them my business any chance I can. read more

Best Little Pharmacy in Austin! I've been going to Lamar Plaza Drug Store ever since my insurance changed where I could get my medication. I am so glad they did. It is a small pharmacy with only health related items shelved in the store. Don't go here expecting to browse tons of snacks, greeting cards or pick up groceries. The wait has always been short, and if you want you can have your medication delivered to your home for free! Just visited this local drugstore for the first time and had a great experience. They filled my prescriptions fast (10 minutes) and they went out of their way to get me an over the counter brand which was cheaper and did the same job as one of the items prescribed. Also, one of the medications instructed that I take a whole pill the first day and halfs on the remaining so they cut all the pills in half but one for my convenience. Maybe this is a common practice but it sill left me impressed. Very friendly and informative staff. Plus it felt good to support someone other than walgreens or cvs. Also, the manager personally sent me a letter a couple weeks after my visit to welcome me as a customer and let me know if I ever had a question or concern to call them. I found myself in need of a compounding pharmacy that could provide a critical prescription for my "granddog" that is visiting for several weeks from Durham, North Carolina. The staff could not have been more helpful! In particular, their compounding pharmacist, Ashley, verified that she had the necessary medication in stock, contacted the pharmacy in North Carolina for a prescription transfer, learned that our prescription needed refill approval, contacted the NC vet for approval, and then followed up to let me know that our order would be ready for pickup that afternoon!
