Maru was a quiet surprise for us. Only two employees working and two customers but the food spoke for itself. They have a large menu but of course we came for sushi. We shared three rolls and scarfed them down! We got the Dragon Roll, 007, and the Maru Special Roll. They really go heavy with the sauces which we loved!! The Maru Special was a battered roll and it came out hot so be prepared for the warm sushi vibes. Our waitress was super nice and cracked some jokes with us! The place was pretty big and could host some large parties for sure! Overall it was pretty good and a classic sushi spot! Follow us for more sushi reviews on our Collection, The Omaha Sushi Project! Korean food is almost always underrepresented in most areas. I would happily take a few fewer mediocre Chinese restaurants if it meant a few more Korean restaurants. Until that happens, Omaha can enjoy Maru's strong Korean dishes, while also getting a terrific selection of freshly made sushi rolls. We started with a freshly brewed tea, though there are many other options. The caterpillar roll is substantial with perfectly cooked rice and wonderfully fresh avocado on top. And, look at that cool caterpillar look from the top view. I got the pork bibimbap, which is billed as a 2-pepper spicy level, but it was only mildly spicy. It doesn't normally get served with an egg, but I added one. And...yes, it does what a great bibimbap does so well: it lets you scoop up sizzling rice along with substantial meat and vegetables. There's so much here that I couldn't possibly eat it all. My mom and brother got the traditional (beef) bulgogi and chicken bulgogi, respectively. The seasoning is robust on both, but it really suits the beef better. On the other hand, the beef had a huge oval-shaped bone through every piece. There wasn't much meat left once you cut around it. You will also receive a plate with kimchi, potato, broccoli, and bean sprouts, which helped as an additional mix-in for your dish. The service was fast, and patient considering how long it took us to order. There were so many terrific options on the menu that you could come here several times and get something great every time.

This was the place I've been searching for! I was craving sushi and with being new to the area I have been meaning to try Maru. I am so happy I did as everything exceeded my expectations. The pork bulgogi was flavorful in all the right ways. Huge portion of meat and order includes rice, veggies, kimchi & potatoes. I could have filled up on the pork but wanted to try other dishes being a first timer. The chicken Udon was out of this world, another large portion and super tasty. It wasn't overloaded with veggies, good amount of chicken - perfect balance. Crab rangoons were ideally made. I also got three sushi rolls, shrimp tempura, spicy shrimp tempura and spider. After all this is what I was craving, needless to say I got sidetracked by the appealing menu. Sushi was darn good, but not exceptional. The rolls were a little loose and kept falling apart but that didn't impact the fresh flavor, I just felt super white having to eat it with a fork haha. Will I get it it again? Likely. Lastly, I have to say the customer service was top- notch. Kaylee gave a warm welcome upon entering, was very accommodating and even made me laugh a few times.

This is our second visit! Sushi tastes pretty fresh, the Crab Rangoons are to die for! And the Chicken Bibimbab was really yummy! My husband and I love the food and appetizers here:)

Definitely one of the better Korean restaurants here in town. The food is very authentic and well prepared. The staff was very attentive and very kind. The place is very very clean and very warming decor. They're Bulgogi special was very traditional Korean style, and the taste was very very nice

At first, The restaurant seemed a bit sketch to me with the few employees and empty atmosphere, but the food gave me a satiating feeling of home. While the ordering process was lackluster because of the waiter not being fully informed on the menu, The sushi we got was flavorful and seemed fresh, and the pork bulgogi came sizzling on a hot pan. Overall, a decent place with good food :)

My boyfriend and I headed out here for dinner one night when it was almost hitting warmer weather. Year 2020 threw us all in a bind that created a new sense of norm. As more restaurants and retailers began welcoming customers more and relaxing some of the restrictions based on state mandates we decided to actually have a dine in meal somewhere. We both LOVE Korean food, well, almost all food, but Asian food specifically so this place was on the top of our list to dine at. The restaurant is well equipped to handle crowds if need be but on this evening there was one other table occupied and two people waiting for carry out orders via grubhub or door dash. We were seated at the far end of the restaurant next to the wall, a good distance away from the other table allowing for social distancing. The waitress serving us was pleasant and friendly, remembered to fill our waters appropriately and gave us enough time to study the menu. I decided on the grilled mackerel while my boyfriend had the chicken bibimbap bowl. We also had an order of the spicy tuna rolls and ceviche. We loved the spicy tuna rolls, the ceviche was okay. I'm glad we tried it but the winner for the small bites were the rolls and the accompaniments with our main meals. My mackerel was one of those dishes where looks are very much deceiving. It looked underwhelming to me but I was oh so wrong as soon as I took my first bite. The fist was cooked perfectly, no fishy taste or weird toughness. It was tender and the flavors managed to seep in throughout the entire piece of meat. I loved it! My boyfriend's bowl of bibimbap was steaming with heat and a huge portion for one person. He also loved his bowl! He loved it so much he order the same thing as a to go order a few weeks later!! I'm so glad this restaurant is still going strong. They have a variety of menu items offered and know exactly what they're doing in preparing a wonderful Asian meal. Thank you so much!

A true gem in La Vista for Korean BBQ. I highly recommend the crab rangoons. They were fresh, flavorful, and bursting with a delicious filling. For an entree I got the Dolsot Bibimbab and wow was it the right call. Full of flavor and rich with delicious beef, vegetables, and rice in a hot stone bowl. The restaurant was near empty when we arrived and plenty of room for a group. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and gave great recommendations for the full menu of options. Give this place a shot it doesn't disappoint

Our first experience with Korean food! Yummy. Service was awesome. Daughter and I had traditional bibimbap and hubby had beef bibimbap. It's served in a hot stone bowl and stays sizzling for a long time. Rice is on the bottom. Ours was spicier than just beef. Son-in-law had sushi. We started with edamame and calamari, which were tasty. Items tasted fresh and flavorful. Beef was tender. We were the only non-Asians in the restaurant. Decor is nice. We'll be back.

The Chicken Bibimbab here is absolutely amazing. I've been coming here for years and it's always terrific!

The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, which gives it a cozy feel. Personally, I'd love to see a little more Japanese décor and perhaps some music that better matches the cuisine and atmosphere. It would help create a more immersive dining experience. We walked in at 5:15 PM, sat down, and the place was packed within minutes. Not an empty seat in sight--good timing on our part! Our server greeted us quickly, and after a quick look at the drink menu, we went all in with water, Coke Zero (YES, a Coke Zero establishment!), and a cocktail--the amusingly named Sex in Okinawa. No regrets. As the sushi train made its rounds, we grabbed a crab rangoon. It was tasty but had cooled off from its little journey, so we opted for a fresh batch from the kitchen. The spring rolls? Crispy, hot, and on point. I did have to ask for sriracha a few times (our server kept forgetting), but to be fair, they were busy, so I didn't hold it against them. One thing we noticed was that some of the sushi rolls lacked descriptions. A tiny sign with ingredients would be helpful. I am a sushi newbie, and I wasn't about to roll the dice on a Volcano Roll without knowing what was inside. For what I did try: California rolls - classic and exactly what you'd expect. Sexy jalapeño - surprisingly good! (If there was fish in there, I didn't notice.) Tempura sweet potato roll - crispy, slightly sweet, and a winner. Pro tip: They offer a veteran/military discount, but double-check your receipt--ours wasn't applied at first, but they fixed it without issue. Final bill: about $68, and let's be honest, a good chunk of that was drinks. Not bad for a fun dinner out! Would I go back? Absolutely. There's plenty more to try, and the atmosphere makes for a great night with friends. Final Verdict: Worth the ride!

But there is a James Beard-level recognized chef here, in Omaha, that is delivering fresh-tasting raw and other omakase dishes week after week - geography be damned. His name is David Utterback. It's incredibly difficult to get reservations at this eight-seat omakase called Ota. Moreso than any omakase in my hometown on an island in the middle of the Pacific. In fact, I dont think he needs this review - the best don't need to advertise. I also don't think we have a sushi chef here in Hawaii that is as nationally-acclaimed as Utterback. So we were very interested to try. And we were very lucky to get reservations. I dont think there is a parking lot for this restaurant, which is tucked within his also highly-regarded Yoshitomo restaurant. So if you from Hawaii like me, and get lucky with the reservations, gotta roll da dice on parallel street parking. That's code for come early ;) (parking is free in the area) W-h-e-n you do arrive at Yoshitomo, there is a small - hidden - waiting area within Yoshitomo where you will be asked to wait for the omakase to begin. The dark photo with the lantern and Ota sign is in that waiting room. - And frankly - That's all that needs to be shown in a photo cause the omakase course itself varies depending on chef's tastes and what's available that week. The courses we had will likely not be the entirety of the courses you have. But the rice might be the same. There is a special black vinegar that chef uses to add to the rice. Ask him about it. There is a whole story behind it ;) So my photos are small in number. They are the highlights of our experience and what stood out to me that is beyond anything I've tried in Hawaii or elsewhere (including the black-vinegar sushi rice) Enjoy - cause we most certainly did :)
