Yoshitomo remains my top sushi spot in Omaha. It never fails to impress! We sat at the bar this time to see some prep in action. The chefs have their process perfected, and it made dinner more interesting. The food of course was top notch. The fish was the best quality and the new dishes on the menu were delicious. Favorites remain Hama toast and wagyu beef nigiri. Anything with scallops is always my favorite as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was crowded on a weekday but service was still excellent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This remains a chill spot for a date night or small intimate group dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Enjoyed a date night here. This is a gem for Omaha with incredible options to choose from. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The parking lot was busy, but inside it was a pleasant, dim setting with few people while we were there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My favorite was the wagu with rice. For something that appeared so simple it had great flavor. All of the sushi we tried was well made and tasty, but for the price I think we have some other pretty great sushi places in Omaha. I definitely recommend trying some of the more unique dishes. The service was exceptional. This is a great spot if you are looking to treat yourself or celebrate a special occasion.

Yoshitomo is a FANTAASTIC eatery in the Omaha area that I'd recommend to locals, tourists, or anyone just passing through looking for one of the best places to eat in Omaha. We've dined there a few times, and each and every time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have hit it out of the park in terms of quality, service, and ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is not too fussy or fancy, so don't come here in your Sunday's best if you don't want to. They focus on the food way more than the pomp and circumstance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now that's not to say your meal will not be top notch. The chef and owner has been nominated (and been a semifinalist) for a James Beard award. The restaurant or chef will win one someday, for sure. Is it an inexpensive place to eat all the time? Not so much - but they do have a happy hour most days during normal happy hour times, and then all day on Sunday. So if you're price shy to try it for the first time, go during one of these happy hour times and try a few tings to get your feet wet before going back for the full experience. Onto the food I keep hyping up! We have always done the a la carte menu so we can choose a few things. But one of these days we will go to try the omakase and let the chef's vision be our menu. Hama Toast is one of our faves. Yellowtail tuna and brown butter on a nice piece of sourdough. It literally melts in your mouth! The Aburi Wagyu is another go-to, topped with uni butter and a nice soy. Another delicate plate of a few bites that will feel filling, but actually be very light. We also love the Osaka roll, which has shrimp tempura, crab flakes, and kewpie mayo - yum! And the last smaller plate we love is the Abura Miso, which is tender pork belly wrapped in nori, atop a miso paste for a full flavor explosion in just a few bites. Even their Caesar salad is impressive. Perfectly dressed and gigantic - it could be a meal in itself, if you're looking for something lighter when you visit, and like salads as your entree. For our entrees though, two of our favorites have been the Kani Miso (super delicious snow crab and roe over a flavorful sushi rice) and the KC Kama, which is a perfectly smoked yellowtail basted in BBQ, over a dill cream with potato salad (which doesn't sound like it would all work together but it DOES). These are just our favorites that we return to again and again between all the different things we've tried - but you can't go wrong with ANYTHING at Yoshitomo. [[HIGHLIGHT]]With the awesome food, very cool/minamilist ambiance, and great service to boot, you will have a great experience - I guarantee it![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We were able to snag a reservation at Yoshitomo while in Omaha. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat at the sushi bar, which was so fun![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We don't eat a lot of Asian food and aren't super familiar with the flavors, but we aren't picky eaters, so we followed our server's recommendations, which were spot on. Everything we ate was delicious, service was perfect. Definitely my favorite stop in Omaha. Highly recommend stopping by!

Two days later of craving more, I must add a few newbies for me. Darcy & Kelly were great! Fukui Vodka Cucumber Drink 5 Star so refreshing! I had two! Sakeviche 5 Star - the Tonburi or Caviar of the land is a must for my pantry now. Loved Darcy's recommendation on this! Khaleesi 2/5 - I thought the sundried tomato would be more sweet, but it was more of a paste & have me immediate heartburn. Megami 5 Star & a total palette cleanser to me! I'd order this first to eat between bites & entrees. It was fresh & wonderful! Kobayashi Maru 2/5 - very plain, nothing really standout for me. I also ordered my favs from last time & know next time what to start with & try the rest of the magnificent menu. For the experience, I did the cereal milk & dole pineapple ice cream. Very cute accompaniments. Side point, they have to get the reservations for sushi bar situated or have the bar be a first come, first serve missing out on customers due to no-show bookings just FYI.

By far one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. A huge thank you to our waitress, Kelly, she was awesome and made our experience even more special! The attention to detail and the creativity, in each dish, were out of this world. The chefs crafted a very unique menu that allows you to really taste the quality of each ingredient. This restaurant is truly special. It's the kind of restaurant that you will talk about for ages because it's that good. It's also very reasonably priced for the quality you're getting.

Wow! We are so lucky to have this gem of a restaurant in Omaha! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We love the bar seating to see the sushi chefs working to make each dish a delight![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is attentive and welcoming. Beyond the presentation is the flavor of each dish - it's like a Japanese flavor safari. The quality of the fish is beyond comparison - the color, texture and flavor is something to experience. I learned they dry age 75% of the fish to optimize the texture (you can see the coolers in the front). They also make all their wasabi fresh. Looking forward to making another visit soon!

I think if I reviewed everything away then this review would be way too long to write. We were celebrating and decided to head to Yoshitomo. We made a reservation on their website since it was a weekend which was really easy to do and the hostess sat us right away. We started with some wine and they had an impressive selection of well curated wines. No mass produce labels on this menu. The prices were also reasonable for dine-in. We started with the Oni egg and some edamame. You might think that an egg sounds so simple but the amount of effort and care that it takes to make this one egg dish is so impressive and it's worth every penny. Imagine eating a devil egg but that deviled egg was crafted by an angel in heaven and sent down to you on a little floating cloud. That good. Another highlight was the Hama toast. My husband is a sourdough connoisseur, and he was impressed by the sourdough pieces that came under this really light and tender piece of yellowtail. Then we got a bunch of rolls for the table, and every single role was completely different and unique in its own way! My favorite was probably the Simba, which was slightly smoky from the salmon, but had a good crunch in it from the crab and cucumber. The most interesting role we got was the rodeo which tasted exactly like a hamburger but in a sushi roll form. So unique and fun! Throughout the night, our server was incredible. She was really attentive and made really great recommendations. When she wasn't serving us directly, there were a number of other staff checking in on us bringing us our food bringing us our water, and it felt like you were really taking care of. We can't wait to head back to yoshitomo soon!

A visit on Christmas Eve. Always great service. Sushi chef recognized me and checked on my service. Plates: Saigon makimono and Abura Miso. My favourite was the Abura Miso. Also known as andansu in Okinawan, is a savory, slightly sweet, and versatile Okinawan condiment made by simmering miso paste with pork belly and seasonings. I highly recommend.. also a nice meal on occasion. Beer is too expensive :(

I love this restaurant. You'll spend quite a bit but it serves some of the most creative food in Omaha. Most of it lands, too. I started with the egg (something of their signature dish). It has surprising flavors but is at its core a deviled egg on potato salad. I loved it. We shared five rolls. A lot of fun, I'd recommend them all except the truly mediocre Khaleesi, which is topped with Sun-dried tomatoes. I hated the texture and it was overbearing. There is a torched-beef bite that was to die for. The rolls are very heavy on sauce, so if simple fish, rice, and seaweed is your thing, this might not be the place for you. Service was excellent though. We were helped easily through the menu. And the reverse osmosis water was super refreshing.

I've been wanting to go to Yoshitomo since they opened years ago. I don't normally go out for my birthday but I decided to this year, (it was last week). So I made reservations for a Wednesday and my brother in law and I went for some of the best sushi in the country. I made the reservation for the sushi bar, which is great for a first timer as you can see the talented chefs cut, slice, dice and make your dishes and everyone else's as well. After we walked in, which was right when they opened because I don't mess around, we were shown to our seats at the bar. Aesthetically, this place looks so nice, especially with the warmth of the wood on the tables catching your eye immediately upon walking in. Throughout the night, (we were there for about 2.5 hours), we ordered many small bites, sashimi, and a couple Chef's choice plates of sushi. Every......single......bite was amazing. I've eaten a lot of sushi in my time and this place is by far the best. The care they put into every thing they construct is amazing. And of course I got a few bottles of sake throughout my meal, which were all great as well. I want to go back.......like right now. I can't afford to go all out like I did my first time but I'm dang sure that I'm going to eat some amazing sushi no matter what. I'm waiting for a spot to open up for David's Omakase, but those spots are always booked. Fingers crossed!

The hostess was very kind as I walked in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was nice but simple.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was interesting watching the sushi being made while sitting at the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I looked at yelp to decide what to order so that had me landing on the Hama toast and the simba roll.I felt like my roll was heavy on the spicey mayo so I just scraped it off, no big deal. They have this Hama toast that is Sourdough bread and it tastes like grilled cheese and sushi. I could've had a huge amount of it because was so good and unique. I let the server know I was driving to go to a concert so that had me in and out as fast as I would like.

From greeting to departure, we have felt welcome and appreciated. Not sucked-up-to. Appreciated. It's like they dig what they're doing. Feels great. This is doubly true for us when dining at the bar. We had a great conversation with the gent serving, and enjoyed him nearly as much as the meal. The fish. So fresh. So tasty. Soft. Perfectly cut. Mmm. Parking is pretty simple. Plenty of space behind the building. Chill neighborhood, too. Felt quite safe. At some point, I need to try some of the many other types of Japanese cuisine, Chinese cuisine, and Thai cuisine. If you heard about a sushi omakase place in the middle of America, what would you think? I bet…read moreit's probably not fresh-tasting raw dishes or wow-level sushi omakase. But there is a James Beard-level recognized chef here, in Omaha, that is delivering fresh-tasting raw and other omakase dishes week after week - geography be damned. His name is David Utterback. It's incredibly difficult to get reservations at this eight-seat omakase called Ota. Moreso than any omakase in my hometown on an island in the middle of the Pacific. In fact, I dont think he needs this review - the best don't need to advertise. I also don't think we have a sushi chef here in Hawaii that is as nationally-acclaimed as Utterback. So we were very interested to try. And we were very lucky to get reservations. I dont think there is a parking lot for this restaurant, which is tucked within his also highly-regarded Yoshitomo restaurant. So if you from Hawaii like me, and get lucky with the reservations, gotta roll da dice on parallel street parking. That's code for come early ;) (parking is free in the area) W-h-e-n you do arrive at Yoshitomo, there is a small - hidden - waiting area within Yoshitomo where you will be asked to wait for the omakase to begin. The dark photo with the lantern and Ota sign is in that waiting room. - And frankly - That's all that needs to be shown in a photo cause the omakase course itself varies depending on chef's tastes and what's available that week. The courses we had will likely not be the entirety of the courses you have. But the rice might be the same. There is a special black vinegar that chef uses to add to the rice. Ask him about it. There is a whole story behind it ;) So my photos are small in number. They are the highlights of our experience and what stood out to me that is beyond anything I've tried in Hawaii or elsewhere (including the black-vinegar sushi rice) Enjoy - cause we most certainly did :)
