My daughter has been going here for about 3 years and just finished last year. The main orthodontist Dr. Maruko is incredibly rude. She doesn't treat her patients well at all. She would always yell at my daughter and get mad at her. It's not just her that's rude, the whole staff is mostly rude. The front desk lady would always have a rude face and was just not nice. There were a few assistants that were nice but they didn't stay long. I have a son who is needing to find a place to get his teeth done and I will not be sending him here because of our horrible experience. Definitely don't recommend and go to a place with caring staff. read more

Be careful of pricing and extra treatments not needed. My wife and I were referred here by our Dentist Dr. Ringer who we love. The consultation was pleasant with Dr Maruko and we thought we would go with her for our orthodontist needs, aligners and braces. When we received the quote, it was 40-50% higher than the quotes we received in Irvine and Newport Beach (other recommendations from friends). When we emailed the front desk to to ask why the big difference in pricing, that is when things went south. At first they said they just have better services, then when pressed further they said my wife needed a conebeam CT, radiology report, and a splint for TMJ. My wife has never had TMJ. We went back and forth with the front desk and even asked if we could have a call or come in to clear it up and discuss pricing. They said no and then we received an email that we should take our business elsewhere. Lesson learned: even if you ask nicely why the treatment is $12k, they will ultimately tell you to leave. Based on the recommendation, we are sure Dr Maruko is a good dentist, but you clearly have to be willing to pay a huge premium and not ask any questions about treatment. read more

They offer a friendly reminder via text and email. This really helped as life can get busy for us all's They provide incentives for patients to be on top of their duties. Dr. Maruko does a satisfactory job with fixing teeth. However, she is condescending and not easy to work with if things don't go exactly as planned. If you have an easy mouth to fix, and things go as planned as they did with my first child, she is satisfactory. However, if there are any minor glitches in the treatment plan, as it was with my second child, it's a whole different story. I was warned by a couple friends that she had their kids in tears, but went with her out of convenience. I regret that decision and changed orthodontists with phase 2 and am completely happy. Dr. Maruko's office is also not helpful billing insurance unless repeatedly pushed to do so. Make sure you follow up on insurance billing if you choose to use her. read more

My daughter and I had a very negative experience with Dr. Maruko, I would go out of my way to be pleasant and make conversation with her and she was rude anyway. My daughter genetically is predisposed to getting plaque, so we bought every toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, and even an expensive water pick and she would yell at us and berate us in front of the entire office. My son had braces and a permanent retainer put on by our ortho when we lived in San Jose. Yesterday, my sons retainer came off on one side so I called this office to have the ortho remove it. Dr. Maruko worked on my son's teeth for 41/2 years and she's now working on mine. She's always been enjoyable to work with and her staff are always pleasant, positive and very responsive. She has had turnover but is always able to find a great staff to work with her. She is a perfectionist which means timelines may need to be altered to arrive at the desired goal. This happened with my son whose teeth relapsed shortly after his braces were removed. No one could have predicted that but with patience, Dr. Maruko was able to correct it. Needless to say, I've been happy with Dr. Maruko and her staff and would highly recommend her practice. Overall experience with this dentist was undesirable for what she charges. Minimal communication, daughter was in braces longer than she stated, and they over billed my insurance on several occasions. I recommend checking your statements and out of pocket and keeping a close eye on billing. They will probably end up owing you money but won't say anything until you bring it to their attention. read more

I had taken my daughters for 2 phases each. I had been warned about this orthodontist, others in the area saying that she seems more interested in making money... They said she's known for extending the time it takes to fix the overall bite so she makes you pay even more! But, I liked her academic background and the location of her office (close to my daughters' school) at the time of making that decision. . Well, I think others were correct! She did a reasonable job I guess but both my girls' bites look off. On both girls, she wanted to charge me more even though she was the must expensive orthodontist. Her office staff must have fully changed out about 5 times across the years we had been going to Dr. Maruko. When her staff left the first time, I expressed how much I liked one in particular, Dr. Maruko talked bad about her. She wasn't professional in that regard. She's not very warm as a person, but I didn't think that was important at the time. I realize now how the Dr.'s personality greatly affects the environment. It did not have a positive feel. I think it's odd that although the majority of her clientele are kids, but her hours serve herself. She would do some procedures after school-- they could only be done during school hours so I would have to take my daughters out of school ALOT. She doesn't work Mondays.... It now DOES seem she was more interested in making money and that she did not really like being an orthodontist. I could never really know that for sure, but that is what it seemed like in the way she ran her business. As I would wait for my daughters' to be treated, I would hear so many parents complain about charges..... Or even the fact that Dr. Maruko wanted to extend treatment and charge more!!! Later on, I was in that position. I told Dr. Maruko I would not pay more. She will ask you to sign a paper acknowledging that you are releasing your child early so you don't hold fee accountable! Wow!! The interesting thing is... I trusted her... She told me that having a first phase would reduce the time needed on the second phase! WRONG!!! I just ended up paying for them to take off, the out on another set of braces!! It doesn't matter now because my girls' braces are off but I spent so much money and their teeth are mediocre. I dreaded going to some extent because it was so negative in the office. I should have listened to what I had heard.... There were so many good orthodontists in my area. Anyway, I would not at all recommend Dr. Maruko. You will pay more and then be asked to pay more in the end.... And maybe not even get the best job. I wish I would have looked at Yelp when deciding.... I didn't.... Oh well.... I've moved on from this issue but I thought others should know. read more

Doctor seems caring but is probably the most expensive Orthodontist in town. Hours of operation not condusive to practical life and school obligations. No accommodations are made for needing time away from intended treatment even if no service is rendered. Staff is disorganized. I completely agree with the post on 07/23/13. Be careful in choosing before you end up paying more than 1,000 dollars than intended and still the job has not been completed and yet "more is to be done". read more
