Dr. Marvin Lo is a professional caring orthopedic surgeon. From office check-in to hospital exit, everything went like clockwork. Even my meds were ready the day before even though I have not needed them yet, it was comforting to know they are available. He visited me pre-op to see how I was doing and put my nerves at ease. The knee surgery went well. The only memory of it was the vaporized anesthesia face mask and waking up in the recovery room. I don't know how Dr. Marvin Lo could receive anything less than 5 star review on Yelp. read more

The office is poorly equipped, I got the image from San Mateo hospital, they said the CD is empty, asked me to go back and get another CD. The hospital said it is a very standard Dicom image system. How ever, I called back the office, they said they don't have dicom application to read. I got home and downloaded dicom system from web, with my own computer I can see all the images. The office just don't want to help a bone fractured patent. it is very easy just to download an application to read diacom image. I wish the office to be closed soon because the staff has no passion to help. The doctor is not trying to look into the problem. I was turned away just like that.when I called, the nurse said we don't have dicom application, that is all free online. read more

I saw Dr. Lo in 2021 after extreme shoulder pain landed me in the ER. He looked at the X-ray and said there was nothing he could do for me. He fat-shamed me so badly I left his office in tears. Two and a half years later, a PA ordered an MRI that revealed a 50 percent tear of my tendon and severe joint degeneration, among other things. The term "medical gaslighting" comes to mind. read more

Do not see Dr. Lo. He is terriable!. I went to see him for a surgical consul in August. I have been haveing sever left knee pain for over a year. I was told by another doctor I had artitis in my knee, however at that time I was having extreme pain in my right hip thaat required a total hip replacment. Move foward to July of 2023 and my knee is in extreme pain and I can harly walk on it. I went to peninsula orthopedic associates in daly city. They took a full set of xrays and it was concluded that I needed a partial knee replacment. However they did not have a doctor that was contracted with my insurance so the refered me over to DR. Lo who is contracted. I went intohis office with the xrays and gave the disic to the nurse. He cam in ten min later sat down and told me that he could not view the xrays. I asked him why he could not read the xrays and he would not give me an anwser. Then he told me that he did not think I needed a partial knee replacement and that I should ride a bike and the pain would go away. I got very upset and told him that he CAN NOT make an educated digagnosis on weather I need surgry or not with out viewing the xrays. I then walked out of his office and told him I wanted my copay back. Which of course did not happen. I then got a referal to see a real orthhopedic doctor at Stanford and they took the time to redo xrays and view the ones that I brought in. As a result not only did I have surgery, but when they went in there was more damage than they thought that result in me needing a full knee replacment. Front door was terrible, I called and asked if Dr has time look into my situation, unfortunately the Dr I was looking for that have fully booked, they recommended Dr Marvin. Ok, I drove 45 mins and saw him, Dr Marvin walked in. Showed XRay and said he doesn't do these kind of case anymore. And then recommended Stanford Dr to me, and I need to I have to call and make another appointment, but I broken my arm already 10 days, if Dr Marvin doesn't do these case , front desk should ask and confirm first instead waste our time and drive long time and get nothing ! I happened to get Dr. Lo for a broken femur that required surgery. I felt his confidence when mine was not there. He had to put a bit of metal in my leg and hip and it really shored me up. My leg has healed beautifully and I'm forever grateful it was him I had to fix me. read more

Doctor Lo came highly recommended as a knee cartilage expert. I had a bum wheel that needed repair. Doctor Lo takes his time and explains everything to you. I also like the fact that Doctor Lo does not belittle his clients or treat you like a child. He speaks to you as if you are a contemporary and a person who is actually able to make sound medical decisions with your own brain (this is a rare trait). Doctor Lo also takes his time and never makes you feel rushed. The first orthopedic surgeon I had an appointment with barely did an exam (lightly touched my leg and told me I'd be "tip top in no time.") I'm a realist and I hate when people blow smoke. Lo tells you like it is. He doesn't care if it's fashionable and he won't sugarcoat just to tell you what you want to hear. I highly doubt the other doctor who barely touched my knee and explained knee functionality to me like a 7 year old would've done a better job. Also, Doctor Lo was able to get me into surgery less then a week after my appointment and was able to save as much of my menisci as possible. Doctor Lo was always available for questions. On a recent visit I peppered Doctor Lo with questions for several minutes. He never once seemed rushed or annoyed with my concerns about my health (I assure you this is another rare trait). In summation, a sound competent surgeon with a fantastic bedside manner and a no nonsense approach. If you want a doctor who is going to remove all your menisci and tell you to run marathons and you won't have any long term damage go somewhere else. this doctor sent me for an MRI following a knee injury & did not follow up. his office gave me a $20 neoprene brace & assured me it was covered by insurance - it was not & is going to cost me $65! Now I have to find a doctor who will actually do his job as my knee is full of fluid after only a small amount of exercise. I cannot do my daily activities & wasted my time seeing this guy. I was offended by his comment that he would treat me differently if I had a 25 y/o knee instead of the 40 y/o that it is!! 40 isn't old & I still need to walk & hopefully exercise without pain & swelling read more

Dr. Marvin Lo is even better than you thought. Very professional and compassionate. I had two surgeries on my knee with his team. He spent less than 1.5 hours putting two screws in, when my knee was still very swollen. Surgeries were successful. No matter what kind of medical questions you have, he'll always give you an expert's answer without a thought. I finished all the post-surgery appointments today. When he left the room I was celebrating, and he asked me, "Isn't it crazy?" Gosh, I would give every star in my pocket!!! read more

Dr. Lo is excellent. He's extremely thorough, provides options, and explains in detail what has happened, what is going to happen, and what his recommended course of action is. In my case, I needed surgery to repair a dislocated elbow. He walked me through every step of what would happen during surgery, what to expect afterward, and my prognosis. He even went as far as to reschedule other patients to ensure my elbow would be repaired before I lost any significant long-term mobility. In short, this is the guy you want fixing your skeletal problems. I'd recommend him to anyone. read more

When I first went to Dr. Lo I could hardly walk. I had bone-on-bone in both knees; however the left was the worst. Dr. Lo did try injections before jumping right into surgery, which I appreciated. The injections didn't do the trick so I opted for the Partial Knee Replacement Dr. Lo recommended. Four months later I had to have a Partial Knee Replacement on my right knee. I saw Dr. Lo for my left knee after reading these yelp reviews. I am 50, on the heavy side, and I started working out again in earnest about one year ago. I noticed my left knee was much sorer than my right in the mornings and it felt like there was something inside. Turns out there was. I had a frayed meniscus and two or three floating bodies, little bone fragments, moving around in there. I also have some advanced arthritis in that one knee. From first appt. to MRI to arthroscopy was about 45 days. I am now five days recovered and have been walking around for three days without crutches. Good stuff, didn't need much pain med at all, knee feels great. I am very pleased with the entire experience and being able to "clean up" my knee without major surgery. read more

The Dr. seems nice but for my condition he didn't paid enough attention. Maybe is he is very good with surgery but for knee injury he just did normal and when I asked for ultrasound images they gave me something where they were taken during my appointment. read more

Excellent surgeon. Very thoughtful, open to my opinion. Did not push surgery until I needed it. Amazing lack of pain after complicated shoulder surgery( bone spur shredded labrum, torn rotator cuff) staff very attentive and professional. PT recc great. Doctor Lo not only told me that I was not "20 years old anymore" on more than one occasion, but scolded me for doing lunges and squats, telling me I should not be doing that at "my age" (I was an athletic 40 year old at the time). After a few MRI's (at my insistence) he finally found a labral tear on my hip, but he refused to do anything else for my knee and did not do any x-rays for my foot, despite my swollen and painful knee and pain to my foot. I changed doctors, and woah and behold, I had a meniscus tear and tissue build up on my knee and a fracture to my foot. I was in pain for a total of almost five years with no treatment. I do NOT recommend him at all. He apparently believes women over forty have no business living a healthy, athletic life...based on another 40 year old woman's review, as well as my own experience. read more

Very grateful to have Dr. Lo as my young son's surgeon when he broke his arm. He recovered in about 6 weeks as Dr. Lo had estimated. He needed 2 surgeries and both times put my son at ease. First off.. I fractured my ankle and went to an urgent care center in San Mateo. They recommended to just get a cast and it will be fine. I went in for a second opinion at Dr. Lo's office and he said surgery would be best to heal my injury. I took his advise and did the surgery. If I didn't do this I was told by a medical advisor that it would not heal right. I did the surgery and recovered in 6 weeks with a healthy bone recovery. I'm so glad o chose to see Dr. lo and get the surgery to make sure my ankle healed the right way rather than getting a cast, healing wrong and then having surgery later to fix the improper recommendation. They're staff I including Gloria and Gaby were so friendly and accommodating made me feel like I was getting the right care for my injury. Dr. Lo was amazing with my surgery and the next few visits making me feel at home. If you have an injury like mine or anything similar I 100% recommend Dr. Lo as your Dr and your surgeon! 5 stars no questions asked. read more

From the moment I met Dr. Lo, I knew he was more than capable of performing surgery to repair a labrum tear in my left shoulder. He listened to my concerns (constant pain for years, I don't like taking strong pain relievers, physical therapy for months at a time with no decrease in pain), diagnosed what he thought was the problem (tear confirmed through an MRI arthrogram), and explained what to expect from surgery (diagraming on the exam table paper). Dr. Lo performed the surgery on July 28th. Two and a half weeks out, I had my post-op appointment and check-up calls from his office and his surgery center. I am so pleased with the care and outcome. Unfortunately, I found myself in need of an orthopedic surgeon after the meniscal repair in my left knee failed after two years. Dr. Lo came highly recommended from a family friend who is an ER doctor. Long story short, Dr. Lo performed a meniscal transplant on my left knee, a complicated procedure that not many orthopedic surgeons are willing to attempt. One year later, my knee feels strong and stable. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Lo, and I highly recommend him to anyone that asks me who to see regarding knee problems. read more

I found Dr. Lo after having hip pain so bad I could barely walk. I always thought my problem was a hip flexor issue, so it was a bummer and a relief to get the diagnosis of a torn hip labrum. Dr. Lo is super thorough, knowledgeable, very good at explaining things, has a good sense of humor (appropriately, of course), and his staff is great as well. Dr. Lo is one of the best doctors and surgeons I have ever met, not to mention he is also probably the nicest person I've ever known. Dr. Lo recently repaired a serious and complicated shoulder injury and navigated the entire process, from diagnosis to surgery, brilliantly. He is truly passionate about his work and his patients and has surrounded himself with a top-notch team. His surgery coordinator, Sherrie, is also one of the nicest medical professionals I've come across. They have been there to answer any question or concern I've had through this difficult process and assured me that everything would be taken care of. I don't know how they do this, especially Dr. Lo who must be insanely busy, but they don't miss a single beat. Dr. Lo saw my 8 year old daughter after she had severe pain in her foot following a bad fall at soccer practice. He had amazing "bedside manners" and spoke to my daughter in language she could understand with a light and positive tone. I was on a return follow up for a torn rotator cuff. Dr. Lo saw me on short notice and I had my 1 yr old with me. My son was pretty well behaved until I had to have a couple of x-rays. I am in the middle of evaluations, treatment and referrals from Dr. Lo. I have multiple issues including chronic pain resulting from a number of street accidents (bicycle, moto, etc.). Dr Lo was too quick to dismiss my injury and refused to do anything further for me. He misdiagnosed me, then refused to correct his mistake.

I feel very, very fortunate to have come across Dr. Lo when I broke my ankle. He was recommended by the orthopedic attendant who tended to me in the Burlingame ER. Dr. Lo was able to see me within 48 hours. I don't know how to explain, but his manner was such that I didn't have 1 shred of doubt that he knew what the best course of action was for me and my injury. My surgery was scheduled by the time I left his office (his staff is GREAT). He was SUCH a pro, and did a beautiful job on my ankle (judging from the before and after images). He was right on when he told me how my healing would go-- how far along I'd be at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months.
