Terrible experience. This clinic operates like a factory, treating patients like numbers rather than people. I arrived 30 minutes early for my first appointment, hoping they might accommodate me, but they were understandably busy. However, once my scheduled appointment time arrived, I was forced to wait an additional hour before being seen. During this 1.5-hour ordeal, I was shuffled between various rooms for no apparent reason, all while watching at least 15 other patients being cycled through to see the same doctor. Even worse, patients who arrived long after me were seen first. When I questioned the doctor about the delay, he offered a standard apology, claiming there was an "emergency." To make matters worse, the facility looks nothing like the pictures online. The actual clinic is flimsy, poorly maintained, and offers zero privacy--you can easily overhear other patients' confidential conversations. The entire operation feels like a money-driven hustle. Save your time and go elsewhere. Avoid this place at all cost! read more

Dr. Chen has been the best Dr. I've met. I got into a car accident many years ago and had two bulging disks and an annular tear and that leads to issues off and on with my lower back. I went to him for trigger point injections and acupuncture. I had sciatica which is terrible and he helped me improve with that as well. I also had issues with my hand and wrist for almost a year and nothing I was trying was working with other Dr.s. - I asked Dr Chen if he could help and we did acupuncture and PRP and within 3-4 weeks I was painting and playing basketball again! At first Dr. Chen seemed to care about my condition. He's very charming, but I felt like he washed his hands of me once he got my $4,000 for PRP treatments. And the treatment didn't work and I think once he realized nothing he did was helping it was like well whatever I don't care about your issues! He was also contradicting! I saw Dr. Chen for low back pain many years ago and he was very helpful. He had a number of treatments for my back, including epidural injections, providing a tens unit, and acupuncture. The back pain resolved. 1.5 years ago, I developed a neck problem, including two bulging discs. I was worried that I would need surgery, but his epidural injection plus the physical therapy he sent me to resolved the problem. I had a brief flare-up this year, and he successfully helped me with this issue, too. He is very well-trained (including at Stanford) and he has many nonsurgical solutions. I have been seeing Dr. Chen for a few months now due to excruciating pain in my lower back and sciatica radiating down my right leg. After much ado, my money has been refunded to me. I appreciate this, so I am raising my review to 4 stars. A woman from the billing department called yesterday to inform me that I had been refunded and requested that I retract my review. The fact that it took 6 months and a poor review to fix my billing issue is objectively ridiculous. "Remove your review" without any sort of acknowledgment of why it was written in the first place did not make a great impression. Other than management's public response to my review, I haven't received any sort of communication; I have heard nothing of how they'll handle problems like this in the future. I can only assume their response was due to a desire to remedy their public image, not genuine concern for how to better their systems to prevent this from happening again. Because of this, I think it is important to leave my original review up just in case anyone else goes through what I did. If you can't get through to anyone to fix your problem, a review may help get management's attention. As I said in my previous review, Dr. Chen listens and supports his patients in their chosen treatment pathway and those who work there are friendly and kind. If I was just reviewing him alone, it'd be 5 stars easily. In 2009 I broke my back. I fractured my coccyx and herniated 4 lower lumbar disc's. Fast forward 2022, I have a terrible fall that leaves me unable to use my hands, arms, legs or feet. I was basically paralyzed. I couldn't stand even holding on to something. I would just fall down. I was referred to Dr. Yung by my sister in law who had terrible sciatica. She raved about what a wonderful doctor he was and how much he helped her, perhaps he could help me too. On the 1st visit I needed help getting there as I couldn't walk, my limbs were paralyzed. The first treatment I was given was a couple injections and acupuncture. I was an agony! He explained that we would 1st have to put out what he called the "fire". He was absolutely right, I was in such excruciating pain I felt like I was on fire. He also sent me for an MRI. The MRI showed I have 9 herniated disc's. Within 3 visits Dr. Chen had me up walking on my own again. Frankly I thought I would never walk again. It was terrifying! I have the utmost faith in Dr. Chen. He is a miracle worker in my opinion. As I stated earlier I couldn't even stand holding onto something. I would just fall down. I see some people talking about the lack of time he has to spend with patients. They're right, he doesn't have a lot of time to spend. It's because he's a good doctor who's helping people. And that makes him a "very busy doctor". He's made me feel like a new person again and I've only seen him 11 times or so. He is helped me tremendously. I am so grateful to to have found him. I haven't felt this good in years. Just wanted to post an update to my review of 3-16-22. I am still doing great with Dr Chen's treatment of my lower back issues (bulged disc in lower back). I go for acupuncture once a week and do a lumbar epidural twice a year. This program has kept me in great shape. I still have the occasional flare up which we treat with trigger point injections and that is enough to keep me up and running. UPDATE for 5/30/19: Today they came groveling back to me to try to make me retract my Yelp review below, but this is my story, and I'm sticking to it! My review: I saw Dr. Chen only two times. I was diagnosed with Spondylitis in my lower back and two tiny fractures from childhood that began to hurt. I was interested in seeing him because after researching, he didn't seem "surgery happy". That was a plus. The first time I saw him, he was very kind and interested in what I had to say. He gave me a steroid injection to stop the pain. The second time I saw him, I saw his assistant first who wasn't able to answer all of my questions so he told me to ask Dr. Chen when he came in. Dr. Chen did come in but made no eye contact with me and then said that he would write down the name of a surgeon for me even though in the previous appointment I told him I didn't want surgery. He was very rushed, then left, and came back briefly and gave me another steroid injection that frankly, hurt like hell unlike the first one. He was so preoccupied that I saw him pocket the piece of paper with the surgeon's name on it even though I had no desire to have the name. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to even ask Dr. Chen one question. Both my visits were like night and day. The first visit was great, and the second visit was not. After Dr. Chen left the room, his assistant told me to get a prescription for a drug to bring the inflammation down which I didn't do due to all the scary side effects including death which he didn't even tell me about. As I was leaving, I saw Dr. Chen rushing into another room. I can understand how busy doctors can be, but my gut kept telling me it's all about the money. Charming and understanding on the first visit to pull me in, and after that, constant injections to reduce the pain and get me hooked. I read the book "Crooked: Outwitting the Back Pain Industry and Getting on the Road to Recovery", and for many spine specialists, the injections are their bread and butter. Well, I can see why. I got the bill and for those two shots, each one was over $600! I would never have paid that kind of money if I had known. Plus, the billing department directly charged my credit card. I spoke to my insurance company, and what they were doing was unethical. I called Dr. Chen's billing department, and they were able to lower the bill. It's really up to you to see Dr. Chen and his staff, but for me personally, I'm doing my own exercises at home including eating an anti-inflammatory diet, and I'm getting better. I will never fully be healed with what I have, but I'm also not dependent on someone giving me steroids at every visit and simply ignoring me as their patient. I was going through a lot of stress which caused tension and stiffness in my neck. I came to Dr. Chen hoping to get some understanding and alleviation for my neck pain and my overall experience was great. Dr. Yung Chen was invaluable in helping me recover from an injury to my cervical spine. I was given a diagnoses of having had parsonage turner syndrome that caused nerve damage to my right arm and hand from a previous doctor. But then, I started having severe pain and lack of stability in my neck and shoulders. I started having pins and needles in my left hand and forearm. My previous doctor was done helping me. And my previous experience was waiting months between appointments with various specialists. Dr. Chen saw me quickly, and he diagnosed that I had a whiplash injury from my fall in my home, and that I lost the curve to my cervical spine, which was causing nerve issues. He helped me see a physical therapist to regain curve to my spine, versus previous physical therapists were trying to give me exercises to be straighter, since they were given the wrong diagnosis. I had a series of botox injections in my neck and trapezius muscles, because they were in a constant state of extreme tension. This made a big difference. I also had PRP injections to my whole cervical spine. It took 1-2 months to see results from this treatment. But then, I began the path towards recovery. There are too many people working at the office and they are unorganized and unreliable. They send me a bill every month saying that I have not paid my co-payments. Poor management. They give you an appointment and then when you arrived they put you on wait for hours without telling you whats going on.

I am incredibly grateful and humbled to have been recommended to Dr. Chen from a friend. He had saved me hugely on the two occasions both before and after my ACL knee surgery. The first time, I was in between jobs without medical coverage and tore my right ACL ligament as well as also broking my arm in the process. I came down so hard on might side with multiple defenders on top of me. (Recovery was hard, I couldn't even use crutches on my weak side. Walking was miserable.) To help manage my pain, the electric (pin?) therapy for my knee and arm then was really interesting. I was blown away by how easily and swiftly Dr. Chen placed needles into my arms and legs while talking to him. I didn't even notice and didn't even feel it. Wow, that's some expert skill! Running current through the needles is an interesting tingle. It is bizarre how effective it is. I saw Dr. Chen again more recently as it's been a year after my ligament has been surgically repaired with a cadaver ligament. It's been better than without it, but it still bugged me and tended to give still. I wasn't getting answers at Kaiser at all, they wouldn't even give me a post-op MRI despite my complaints and requests for a 2nd opinion. I kept getting the run around. So I saw Dr. Chen again and he gave me recommendations and an MRI referral else where so I can get answers. He was concerned that even over a year after my surgery, I still had swelling and he definitely concurred that I made more elasticity than I should. He was incredibly thorough and his assistant took pictures of the...not sure which device, ultrasound or something? She took pictures to add to my medical file and as a techie, I was really impressed at that workaround and diligence. This is still an ongoing process, but gosh, I feel so much better to have a the 2nd opinion of an experienced doctor who specializes in sports medicine. Dr. Chen personally gets my struggle as he has also torn his ACL ligament from volleyball and understands the process. Besides the obvious macro suggestions with my knee, he's given me lots of lighter tips from changing up my workout regimen to lower impact alternatives. He's also a vegetarian and holy cow, as a vegan, it is so hard to find a MD who not only understands my choice of diet, but understands those challenges. He lives those values and I resonate well with that. I am incredibly grateful to have him in my corner. Pricing: Low $$$. Not cheap, but I absolutely needed peace of mind and medical advice from a professional. I didn't have coverage when I saw him but still, it was worth it for that peace of mind and tailored treatment that I wasn't getting at my HMO or when I didn't have coverage at all. The design and decor helps a lot though with the space, especially the plants and flowing water. --Street parking is limited, there's a large parking lot too, haven't parked there before, I usually grab street parking. Dr Chen is the most compassionate and caring doctor! He takes time to understand me -mind and body. After an MRI, I got a written explanation of my treatment options as well as an explanation from the medical asst. Dr Chen then came in and thoroughly and completely showed me and explained my problem, the treatment options and answered all of my questions. The first options were treatments that Dr Chen does. The final option was referral to an orthopedic surgeon for consult. I did injections by Dr Chen to relieve pain and physical therapy to help improve function as I couldn't walk well. Eventually I did PRP (use my own blood platelets to help repair the damage). Each time, the risks/benefits and whether insurance covered the treatment were thoroughly explained orally and in writing.
