Dr. Abeyta has become our family orthopedist. Having three children who play sports, we've had our fair share of sports related injuries and every time we have seen Dr. Abeyta. He's excellent at communicating with adults, children, and teens. He's treated my children for broken bones, ankle injuries, major knee injuries, and more. This past fall, my 16 year old son suffered a terrible knee injury that mangled his ACL and meniscus. Dr. Abeyta performed his surgery, and I couldn't believe that my son was walking the next day with extremely minimal to non-existent pain. My son said he could already tell his knee felt better. Dang, looks like I wrote that review prematurely. It turns out that my surgery was only half completed. Somehow they missed a major part of the procedure, so now I've been in pain since August. Now I can almost accept that a mistake was made, but my issue is that they aren't even willing to discount the next surgery. Why should I be out of work again, and pay the deductible again, and have to pay the part insurance doesn't cover (which is very small). I now believe that PA's did all the work, and the lack of oversight is the cause of overlooking completion of the procedure. And a lack of concern is why they won't even consider a price adjustment on the next. Anyway, I won't be getting any work done with a Sutter Hospital again, ever. read more

I absolutely don't recommend this Dr. I went to see him when I was in severe pain. While still wearing my street cloth, without any physical exam, he told me to take Advil and thing will get better with time, although I told him that I was already taking Advil and my stomach is getting very upset. He totally ignore that remark of mine. I saw another Dr doctor who immediately address the concern through extensive physical therapy and treatment in his office with immediate relief. The above Dr have the guts to send me a bill charging me about $300 for " the physical exam" he performed. As a nurse of 20 years, I can tell you that physical exam was not done!!! I will not be this amount of money, insurance will handle it. My concern as a medical professional is: how does he treat other patients? Does he charge them all for physical exam without even performing it? I am beyond disappointed!!! read more

Dr. Abeyta has been extremely helpful with my left knee. More importantly, he has that wonderful combination of knowledge and compassion that puts you at ease when in his care. I saw Dr Abeyta today for a painful clavicle that's been bothering me for some time. He was super helpful, knowledgeable and personable, and gave me advice on how to manage this issue going forward. Dr Abeyta performed surgery on me twice, and the second surgery was so successful I felt the need to write my first ever Yelp review to give him the recognition he deserves. This second surgery was a "right shoulder open distal clavicle excision," which basically meant they shaved down the bone that pokes up from my right shoulder because it was grinding against adjacent bones causing major pain and inability to be as active as I liked. The diagnoses took approx 3 months as he first injected a steroid to reduce the inflammation along with some PT, which made the shoulder feel 100% for a few months, but the pain returned soon. This result along with the x-ray allowed Dr Abeyta to conclude the pain was caused by bone-on-bone grinding rather than ligament problems, so we scheduled the surgery. The surgery experience itself was fine (never the most pleasant experience). Post operation I was playing guitar (very carefully) the next day. I was able to go back to the gym after 4 weeks to do really light weights. After 8 weeks I was doing pushups with minimal pain. After 10 weeks I was snowboarding tentatively. After 12 weeks I was snowboarding and working out as if I had never had surgery. After 4 months (and continuing to today 12 months later) my shoulder felt as good as it did when I was 21 (I'm 50 now) and I'm 100% pain free and can push my right shoulder as hard as I want. I couldn't be happier with the result. I won't go into detail about my first surgery, but it was a successful repair of a boxer's fracture on my right hand. I mention it because my son was 3 when it occurred and I had to bring him to several of my appts because we didn't have anyone to watch him. I planned to bring him into the examination room but his staff offered to watch him during my examination. I thought that plan would never fly because my son was REALLY shy around strangers back then, but they were so warm and friendly toward him that he took to them naturally and didn't mind at all when I went into another room for the exam and left him alone with the staff. They were so kind to him and it really made an impression on me, so much so that I'm writing about it here 10 years later. read more

Dr. Abeyta and his nurse were very helpful. Our 6 years old son fell off the bike and had a fracture in his right arm. Dr. Abeyta and his nurse Jeffrey took care of my kid immediately in a very timely manner. They were able to ease the tension my son had as this is his first time having a fracture. I highly recommend Dr. Abeyta. He did wonders for our teenage son who had an unusual knee injury in high school. Dr. Abeyta diagnosed it right away as being serious, something that another doctor missed and chalked up to being routine, a sprain, do some PT and you'll get over it, etc. That was not the case at all. Dr. Abeyta displayed a lot of skill and had confidence that his plan of action would work - and it did. He successfully performed repair surgeries that the insurance company's medical doctor (who had to pre-authorized the procedure) had doubts would be successful. He performed one of the surgeries during the first lift of the Covid lockdown, which was stressful for all of us, and he handled it like a pro. His follow up care was great. He took us from a pretty serious condition to a successful resolution that allowed our son to move on with his life. We put our trust in him and he came through for us. That's what we all want in our doctors. read more

10/10 do not recommend. This "doctor" wasted my time, money, prolonged my healing process, and gave me a life threatening health scare all because he couldn't diagnose me correctly. Because of this- my personal life, and my work life especially, has been negatively affected. I came in with a shoulder issue. And instead of Dr. Abeyta weighing out all the possible options of what may be wrong with my shoulder, he quickly jumped to the conclusion and said so himself, in his own words, that I "MOST LIKELY" have a bone tumor and that I needed an mri ASAP to move onto the next steps of fixing my health concern. He didn't even explain further what a bone tumor is or express the urgency of the situation. But basically he diagnosed me with BONE CANCER. Bone tumor = bone cancer. At first I was skeptical about it overall. I later then find out the mri is $1,000 just to complete and I didn't want to spend $1,000 just to find out it's nothing like what he was saying it was. But then my symptoms got even more worse. Experiencing major pain, shortness of breath, and chronic fatigue. I contacted him via email to see if there was any other affordable methods to find out if his diagnosis was correct, and his receptionist said no but was able to find a place that would have me pay only around half that price. Imagine if I didn't speak up or try to negotiate?? For a while I was really thinking I had cancer and went through a period of mental and emotional turmoil. After doing my mri and coming back to the follow up appointment, it turns out (as I originally thought) that the results are negative. I mention how I really thought it was what bone cancer like he said, and then he goes in his own words, that bone tumors "are actually RARE and the cases of it are usually a ONE IN A MILLION". What? Knowing that, why say I "MOST LIKELY" had that then? He then tells me I have a condition that I originally brought up and asked about at the first appointment (snapping scapula as the diagnosis) but doesn't even care to question more in detail the symptoms I have been experiencing over the past months. I had to ask all these questions to understand everything better and why I've been feeling all of the symptoms I do. He then refers me to physical therapy as the solution -____-. Why wasn't that thought of at first? Why jump to the most extreme possible diagnosis especially when admitting to knowing it's rare??? The integrity and competence of Dr. Abeyta is questionable and I do not recommend him nor will I ever go back. He is an example of the controversy of those in the medical field who don't really care for their patient's or client's health and overall wellbeing but are just trying to make money.
