I hate like hell saying anything but positives about local businesses, but this is my experience…read moreand there's nothing they could do to fix this, anyway. I've been working on a cabinet from the 40's for six months... I wanted some tinted clear varnish... just a little reddish brown tint, but still clear. As I mentioned I wanted the grain to show through... they said I should stain the wood, which I know a lot of people do, but that's not how these are made, and I'm doing a period correct resoration... so I looked at the various pigments and picked one... but these weren't pigments for clear varnish... because the pigments basically turned this clear varnish into BROWN PAINT... no grain visible... and now the cabinet I rebuilt faithfully with a veneer press that I built, and sustrate for the veneer I imported from europe... that would have been sold for around $3000 tomorrow... is not going anywhere and I'll have to either take this down to the wood again and start over with substrate and then press the veneer... yea... this was a big drag, and I can't do it again... the cab is ruined... and I was pressed for time I would have done a test... but I trusted that they had a better idea than me... I'm not saying to not patronize them, as they have a lot of stuff and it seemed like they were trying to help... they just didn't.

Amazing as always, definitely more knowledgeable and cheaper than the big box stores.read more

My short-term kitchen remodel project started with some DIY repainting job of the ceilings, walls,…read moreand cabinets to give my kitchen a brighter, fresher feel to prepare for the new countertops. I wanted some whites but 3 different shades and texture. I looked online and did my research but ended up coming in with barely a clue on what I am actually looking for. There was only one employee working that day but he was very helpful and regretfully, I can't recall his name. Anyway, I asked him about whites and what his thoughts are about the texture for the different surface area I wanted to paint. He offered his suggestions and I went with them after a few minutes of deliberation and I'm really glad I did because I love the selection! He was super helpful and demonstrated a great deal of patience as I paced the store while trying to decide. I wasn't sure how much of each paint I needed so I asked if there is a way they can enter it into their system. He did and I was grateful as I came back the following day for more of my wall color. Purchasing was a breeze and he walked the paint out to my car after mixing and boxing them up. I had a very pleasant experience!

My husband and I own a couple rentals in the area and tell me why we would make so many trips to…read morebig box stores when we could have been coming here the WHOLE time? Tucked in a cute little area on the other side of the Soulard Market, we felt like we were going back in time walking into the building. We love supporting local, and they really have kept the charm of old St. Louis. It's adorable. BUT being cute doesn't matter if you suck. And they definitely don't suck. They have all the essentials you could need doing standard work on your house, plus more. I was super impressed with their selection for such a small hardware store. You're not going to find everything, but call and confirm because they are super quick to answer and help. And the service you get. Wow! Their employees are super knowledgeable and eager to help. They're super easy to talk to and don't make you feel inconvenient at all. Such a cool, local spot that we will definitely be supporting moving forward.

The store and staff are amazing, and it just feels good going there. They're especially great bc I'm always clueless on what I need to do the job, so they help me figure it out, take me to what I need and explain how to use it. Beyond being a hardware store, they also offer rug doctor rentals and a variety of services you can't find many places, all of which come with the best quality and service: - key cutting way better than a big store - window screen building and repair - glass cutting (wish I knew this sooner bc I've been driving farther to get glass cut for side tables and such) - pipe threading and cutting - blade sharping - window glazing - lock mastering and rekeying and others I'm probably forgetting. It's way better than supporting a big box store! Shop local!
