amazing - Mary Catherine is a talented photographer but most importantly works so well with children, especially our young children, getting beautiful memorable family photos from reticent toddlers who might not be willing to smile or giggle otherwise! Would (and do) recommend her services! read more

I'm so happy I found Mary Catherine Photography. I went through various hashtags on Instagram to find someone who was doing fall minis, and just couldn't have gotten luckier. Not only were the photos fast (you're in and out in 20 minutes) but we got TONS of great shots in a variety of poses. She made the toddler in the family look like a child model and managed to make him smile a genuine smile for every shot he's in. Magic! My husband's sister lost her job due to COVID, so she's temporarily playing nanny to her cousin's toddler. There's so much about the pandemic that isn't great, but having so much family so close by for once is a small silver lining to this whole thing, and we wanted to document it by getting some family shots. Even though it was an overcast, humid day, the pictures all came out great and are cheerfully gloomy, with rich dark green backgrounds and pops of color from our outfits. We had trouble choosing our favorites! She even rolled with the punches when I brought some fans with other cousin's faces on them so they could "be" in the photo we send to Grammy and just acted like that was a fine and normal thing to bring to a shoot :). read more

Mary Catherine is exceptional! We're so happy we chose her for our newborn shoot. She couldn't have been kinder or more professional, and her demeanor instantly put us at ease. And since you might have been wondering: the photographs she took were stunning! We were so impressed. Special shout out to MC's assistant Skylar who helped us pick an album. This is a dream team. read more

We LOVE Mary Catherine! We've had four family sessions with her (so far!) and we are always so pleased with our images. Her style is timeless, elegant, fun, and whimsical. She manages to capture the essence of our children and family in her photos, making them truly precious keepsakes for us. She's also just a true delight to be around. She's so wonderful with kids of all ages - she's an expert infant swaddler, baby whisperer, and our toddler has a blast playing with her. We're so happy to have found someone so wonderful and talented to capture the best days of our lives with our littles. read more

MC is truly the best photographer we've worked with. Not only she's great at capturing moments but also extremely professional, easy to work with and simply amazing! We had 2 mini sessions with her so far and already are looking forward to scheduling our next session. She gives out detailed and easy to follow directions prior to the session and is great with our pup, Jace and baby. If you're looking for a photographer in DMV area, MC is the one! Thank you again for truly amazing sessions + pictures! read more

We had such a wonderful experience with Mary Catherine. My family does not love having our photos taken, but Mary Catherine made the process as painless as possible (even fun!), and the photos turned out beautifully. We found and selected MC for a spring cherry blossoms mini session based on her portfolio. Unfortunately everything got rescheduled due to COVID-19. Fast forward to our late June socially distant shoot and it was so worth the wait! We could not have predicted these coming out as amazing as they did, we are historically awkward with "formal" photos. MC made us laugh, made us comfortable, and made us look goooood. We had too many great photos to choose from. I could not recommend her more, it's pretty apparent that she knows what she's doing with mayhem, dogs, crying toddlers, etc. True artist. Thank you so much! read more

MC is just incredible. She captures these magic moments that you don't even know are happening because the sessions are so lively and fun and relaxed. And she's an actual toddler whisperer. We chose Mary Catherine for our infant/ family photos for our 3rd child. Taking pictures with kids ( ages 3,1, and 1 month) is no easy feat! But Mary Catherine was FANTASTIC. She made us all feel at ease, even my husband! She was playful with the kids so that they acted natural and their true personalities were represented in the pictures. She was helpful in the days leading up as to recommendations of what to wear, and ideas for the kids. She told us what she was looking for in the final product but let the family also " act natural" so the kids cooperated. The use of light in the pictures was fantastic and made this tired old mama look her best! The final product were the best pictures I have seen of our kids and family. We used them for Christmas cards and have gotten SO many compliments! I HIGHLY recommend Mary Catherine! We were very pleased! read more

I can't say enough good things about MC and our experience with her! We booked her for our wedding and it was far and away the best vendor decision we made. Due to COVID/ moves/ etc. we didn't get to meet her before the day, but she was so kind, open and professional that I immediately felt comfortable with her. We also have a large family and bridal party that she took gentle but firm control of to ensure we got all the pictures we needed and stayed on timeline. She captured all of our special moments beautifully and I can't stop looking through them to relive all the fun memories! I also have two family members that already booked/ are booking with her and some other friends that asked for her contact information based on the incredible job they saw her do. Book her now, you will not regret it! read more

Mary Catherine is so wonderful, it's hard to know where to start! I found her photography on Instagram and immediately knew I loved her style. Her photos are so effortlessly beautiful and classic without being too poses or processed. Communicating with her was a breeze! I first heard back from her within a few hours of sending an initial email, and that was in the middle of her scheduling mini sessions. She was very open to what i envisioned for our family session (me, husband, and pup) and also provided thoughtful suggestions. She was very flexible on scheduling to make sure the setting was perfect. We finally got to meet MC and were not surprised she's a real gem of a person! She made us super relaxed, even with having our diva pupper around. We are absolutely going to have MC document our family throughout the years and are so looking forward to another session with her! We are thankful she shares her talents to give us lasting memories of not just big, important events but also how our daily life looks! read more

Can't say enough good things about Mary Catherine! We booked her for a maternity photo session, and she was very responsive from the start, provided an abundance of info (especially in her guide!), and made it clear what next steps/action items were. We had to reschedule our shoot the day before due to an event at our selected location, and Mary Catherine was extremely accommodating and helpful in coming up with plan B, and then plan C. She was also fantastic in handling our dogs during our photo session, getting some amazing shots of them. The turnaround for finished photos was really fast, and we couldn't be happier with how they turned out! We immediately booked her for a newborn session, if that is any indicator of how great she is. Highly recommend! read more

SHE IS THE BEST! I found Mary Catherine through social media when looking for an engagement photographer in the DC area. Her photos immediately caught my eye among a sea of Instagram posts. She has such a great photography style and her photos just come out so beautifully. I knew I had to reach out to her. I contacted her via email and set something up shortly after. Mary Catherine was a dream to work with. She is professional, flexible, and sO friendly. I am very far from the model-type and Mary Catherine made me feel so at ease during our session. My fiance and I (and our dog) ended up having a blast with her! The final products came out better than I could have ever imagined! I have pretty much found my lifelong photographer (seriously) and I would recommend her to anyone! read more

Our family of three has done two sessions with Mary Catherine and I could not be more pleased with how both sessions turned out. She is wonderful with our tough-to-keep-up-with two year old and manages to catch great shots. She is responsive and great to work with--the pictures never take too long to get back. The results are great quality family memories and we will continue to use her for all our photography needs! read more

The best way to describe Mary Catherine is pure MAGIC! The list of why we continue to work with her could go on forever. She is the most wonderful and personable human who immediately makes you feel so comfortable and confident. She takes moments that feel messy and chaotic and effortlessly shifts the tone to fun and loving. Pretty sure she is a toddler whisperer because she got my grumpy son to come out of his shell and the result was the most gorgeous pictures on earth. She is so playful, fun, and creative and it shows in every picture! She takes her time and captures the most candid moments. I will cherish these pictures forever!! Thank you for the most stunning pictures. She is simply the best!!! read more

We did maternity and newborn photoshoots with Mary Catherine. I highly recommend her. She is very talented and it shows in her work. She worked with us to get exactly what we wanted as well as a bunch of shots that we didn't know we wanted until MC recommended them. She is extremely professional and warm and inviting. Mary Catherine went above and beyond to make sure the newborn photoshoot was a success under very difficult circumstances. She was very patient with our very fussy newborn -- even used some of her own soothing tricks which my husband still replicates when trying to calm our baby! Thank you, Mary Catherine! We look forward to working with you again! read more

Mary Catherine just did our engagement photos this past weekend, and the results are stunning! Mary is a pro at getting candid, full-of-life shots. She has tricks to make the typical "fake laugh" pictures look natural, and isn't afraid to try a variety of poses, lenses, and locations to get the perfect picture. I was drawn to her photography from seeing her Facebook Business gallery - her pictures truly capture love and happiness. She is easygoing, professional, and quick on her feet - our scheduled session for Saturday ended up with a forecast of thunderstorms, and she quickly brainstormed some alternate indoor locations and rescheduled to Sunday so we had much better weather. Looking forward to having her as our wedding photographer next June. From family to couples to head shots photography, I highly recommend Mary Catherine! read more

We recently worked with Mary Catherine for our newborn photoshoot and are so happy with how our photos turned out! She was extremely patient, kind and enthusiastic throughout our photo session, which is pretty important when working with a newborn. We have received so many compliments on the photos and know we will treasure them as our son grows up. Also, she was super quick with the turnaround for our gallery, which was awesome. We absolutely plan to work with her again in the future and would recommend her to anyone! read more

Mary Catherine did a mini-session for my family in the fall in Georgetown. My normally happy photogenic little one, who was 10 months at the time, was a grumpy, runny nosed, crying baby who had skipped her nap when we arrived. What can you do, babies are unpredictable. Somehow, despite this, part magician, part baby tamer, part photographer, Mary Catherine managed to capture great photos of us, which I was able to use for her first birthday invitations. Everyone commented on how happy and beautiful my little looked in the photos, so only Mary Catherine and I will know how miserable she actually was! read more

We used Mary Catherine for newborn photos after seeing the photos she did for two sets of our friends. Their photos were incredible and so are ours! Our newborn was fussier than normal during the shoot, and our 2 year old was being a typical 2 year old. But you can't tell from the photos at all! Mary Catherine was able to get truly excellent photos of all of us, even when we weren't our best selves. We plan to use Mary Catherine for all of our family photos in the future and I plan to recommend her to anyone who asks me. read more

Mary Catherine is - in a word - phenomenal. We've worked with her now on two photoshoots and have a third one scheduled for this summer. From the planning of the shoot to the delivery of the photos, Mary Catherine is a pure delight to work with. She's very timely and helpful in her responses, always offering creative suggestions for shoot locations and is incredibly accommodating when shoots had to be rescheduled due to stormy weather. During the photoshoot itself, she's just a joy! Her enthusiasm is contagious and you can't help but beam back at the camera. She is so silly with kids and supportive of parents (I love how she embraces chaos and goofiness = a must for any photographer of children!). And when it comes to the final product, you will be blown away. The photographs she captures will be treasured for a lifetime. I truly think hiring Mary Catherine is some of the best money we've ever spent. I can't recommend her highly enough! read more

Mary Catherine was very easy and pleasant to work with. I messaged her through Yelp for a quote and she responded within a few hours. I was able to schedule the session months in advance, which I appreciated. Her prices are very reasonable. I wasn't quite sure where to have the session, but she offered several great locations both inside and outside, which made things easier for me. And the location we ended up choosing from her suggestions was absolutely perfect. We were able to get both indoor and outdoor pictures which added a lot of variety to the final product. During the session, she remembered everyone's names which made it more personal. She was very enthusiastic and patient with everyone. I asked for a couple very specific shots and she was able to make them all happen (and they turned out great!). We did one outfit change and she had zero problems with that. I don't think she looked at her watch once; she was very engaged in the session. Mary Catherine clearly loves what she does, which makes the experience really fun. I feel like she captured everyone's personalities in our photos... the candids are amazing! I would 100% absolutely recommend. You'll not only enjoy the session, but love the photos you receive! read more

Mary Catherine has been photographing my family for over a year and half, documenting major milestones for our daughter. I met her for the first time as she did our maternity session, on to my daughter's newborn, 100 days, 1 year, and 18 months sessions. Mary Catherine is truly an artist and has been so wonderful and easy to work with - she's helped my family document beautiful moments in time that only photographs can capture. We've been lucky to work with Mary Catherine, and look forward to having her document many more family milestones. read more

Mary Catherine was wonderful to work with - we had newborn photos taken during COVID and she made sure she tested negative before our shoot (had previously shot a wedding), wore a mask, and hand sanitized through out the process! She made us feel safe and also very comfortable, since having your photo taken can be sooo awkward! Will definitely use her again we love love love how our photos turned out! read more

We've had the pleasure of working with Mary Catherine twice now -- newborn photos and a mini session -- and cannot say enough good things about the experience! Mary Catherine is a true professional, making booking, invoicing, and reviewing photos a breeze (but good luck narrowing down your final selections!) What makes working with Mary Catherine unique is her infectious joy and genuine enthusiasm; we didn't know what to expect from our 15 month old during our spring mini session, but photo after photo Mary Catherine captured the humor and sweetness of this stage. We look forward to having Mary Catherine chronicle our family for years to come! read more

We loved our photos by Mary Catherine. She was very accommodating when I decided last minute that I wanted new photos of our baby for holiday cards. She squeezed us in during a busy time for both of our schedules (and turned the photos around right away after the session so I could order our cards asap), and most importantly, she took stunning shots. She's fun and engaging in person and got my 5 month old to show some huge smiles. Towards the end we were hitting up against his nap time and she managed to capture great shots even as he started getting fussy. She worked really well with our space and our bedroom looked quite stylish in the photos too. All our friends and family who have seen these photos have heaped excessive praise on how beautiful they are, and we're so excited to keep working with her in the future as our kiddo grows. read more

We just got family photos back from our session with Mary Catherine, and we LOVE them. We did a session outside with our 1 year old (son) and 8 year old (dog). Mary Catherine kept the toddler entertained and really captured his happy spirit by being ready to go with the flow. At one point, he decided the only thing he wanted to do was crawl, so Mary Catherine got down flat on the ground on her belly to capture some photos. At another time when he needed to walk around, she took the time to grab a few pics of me and our dog, even though that was not planned. The entire session took less than an hour (with an outfit change) and we captured dozens of gorgeous shots of our entire family. 3 more positives: (1) easy to book, responsive, and flexible on place/time; (2) really reasonably priced, esp. compared to others; and (3) she gives you an online gallery so you can download/print your own images, which makes getting prints for grandparents, making photo books/cards, etc. as easy as can be. We plan on using her as our son grows!! read more

Mary Catherine did an AMAZING job capturing my family. With two small boys, it can be difficult to predict their moods (especially at the end of the day) but she had creative ways of making them laugh and giggle and truly captured their personalities. We DEFINITELY plan on getting pictures done by her in the future and I have already recommended her to all my friends that live in the area. read more

Mary Catherine was truly wonderful to work with. She made our whole family feel at ease and comfortable. MC had our almost 3-year old, who is sometimes photo resistant, smiling within the first 30 seconds and kept him smiling the whole time. She also captured our 6 month old so well. We now have the most beautiful family photos. She was so professional, easy to communicate with, and very careful with Covid protocol. We had so much fun and I can't wait to work with MC again in the future. read more

Mary Catherine recently photographed our newborn - she was absolutely wonderful to work with and we are thrilled with how beautiful the photos turned out! M.C. made the whole process easy and fun from start to finish. It was like having an exceptionally talented friend over to take pictures. We can't wait to work with her again! read more

We are celebrating our first pregnancy and, like many parents-to-be, we have taken so many precautions to be safe during these COVID times. With all the compromises we've had to make, the one thing I wanted was to get some beautiful pictures of my husband and I and my little bump. While we were concerned about possible exposure, we felt 100% safe with Mary Catherine after talking with her and I can tell you our experience with her has been outstanding. First of all, it is clear she is taking COVID very seriously. Not only does she understand the importance of being safe but she is also willing to take steps to making her clients feel as comfortable as possible. To mitigate our concerns, she suggested an outdoor shoot in a more isolated location. Then during the shoot, she wore a mask and kept an appropriate distance away from my husband and I, checking in with us along the way to make sure we felt comfortable. On top of all this, she clearly is a fantastic photographer--the lighting was perfect, the setting was beautiful, and she made us look like naturals in front of the camera. Needless to say, we are completely in love with the photos she took. I can't stop staring at them (we already got a sneak peak gallery!!) and it makes me so happy that we decided to go with her as our photographer. There is no doubt in my mind that we would go with Mary Catherine as our photographer in the future. If she can handle this situation well, she can handle anything! read more
