Peppermint hot chocolate at Cafe Mary Grace is comfort in a cup.
    Reena G.

On a gloomy day, I usually find myself looking for comfort food, I guess like most people. But sometimes, I look for "comfort drinks." I, of course, refuse to start drinking wine at 10am so I chose to head to Cafe Mary Grace while waiting for the mall to open. I usually order a glass of iced tea (flavor depwnding on my mood) and their grilled cheese roll, but today, it seemed fit that I order a cup of hot chocolate to pair with my ensaymada. Having to choose from several tempting variants, I got the peppermint hot chocolate as I knew it was still going to be a hot day so peppermint ought to balance the sweetness. When my orders arrived, I was smitten to see that there was a heart in my cup of chocolate formed by the milk they poured onto my cup. I left the cafe feeling warm not just because of the hot choclate, but also because of the effort exerted to "beautify" my order. Indeed, a little (heart) goes a long way.

Never really been a fan of Squash soup. To be honest, I really never could imagine myself ever wanting to order anything that contained squash even... That was until my brother convinced me to try Cafe Mary Grace's Summer Squash soup, and let me tell you, I definitely did not regret it! It was creamy, delicious, and had the right kind of consistency about it. Mmmmm. :) After such a great experience with their soup, I was curious to try a lot of the food that they had to offer. I ended up dining in Cafe Mary Grace whenever I had the chance to for the next weeks that passed. No dish failed me. My favorite dish in their breakfast menu would be their Beef Tapa dish which is served with perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. My favorite salad of theirs is the Fried Kesong Puti, best Filipino salad creation in my book! They also have an array of delicious sandwiches and pasta dishes. There are just too many amazing dishes to suggest. Even their coffee and dessert selection are highly recommended. One Cafe Mary Grace visit is not enough. Not at all.

Good breakfast and food. Mostly American fare and sometimes that's what we want! Good coffee choices as well.

Cakes and pastries are really good and the food is okay but it's overpriced in my opinion

I don't really eat the frosting whenever I eat cakes but with this one, I just can't help but dip my fingers over and over again because their frosting isn't really your typical frosting. It's like eating a whipped cream with zesty fruity powder drizzled on top. What I just dislike somehow in their cakes is that it's sometimes taste like it was stored for too long. I'm not sure if it's because of the air in their sponge cakes but somehow, it doesn't feel too old whenever I try their cheesecakes or mousse. What's funny is that I thought that it was a French patisserie from France but I later found out that it was originally from Korea. I'm such a bimbo when it comes to facts sometimes.

Aside from their selection of bread, cookies and light cakes, I like their cookies and macarons the most. I usually grab one or two pieces of their macarons when I'm in a hurry because it's easiest to eat and packs flavor in such a small thing. I'm not sure if it's the Korean or Asian twist, but their macarons are a bit more chewy and a bit thicker (or fatter) compared to the other ones I've tried around Manila. Though I don't think that's a bad thing. I actually like it. I also like that their macarons are vibrantly colored and I can really taste the flavors. Aside from the usual chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla, they have green tea and mango-flavored macarons at less than PhP30. They also have premium flavors like cherry, blueberry, maple, and even grape that are just about 30% more expensive, but still relatively cheap given the taste and fine flavors. My favorite flavors though would be the basic strawberry or chocolate. My Dad on the other hand likes the soboro the most. The soboro is bread with a crunchy coating that tastes lightly of peanut butter. Being the peanut butter lover, my Dad would have two of it as snack or even have it as dessert before he has his cup of coffee.
