I believe we got their wild mushroom soup and a seafood chowder. It was so good that we kinda already know what we were gonna get into. There's a theme to my Philippines trip, and that is eating Filipino Carbonara as much as possible. It was so creamy and flavorful. To end the meal we shared a mango cake. We had no business having a full three course meal but we got carried away by the amazing menu. The vibe of the cafe was very cozy. BGC Uptown Mall. We went in and nobody greeted us or directed us to any seat. They just basically ignored us lol so we sat ourselves down (my date and I, dressed business casual) at an empty table. This is a fancy brunch spot. A really convenient location from our hotel literally across the street and a minutes walk. Pretty much in the heart of BGC and across from Market Market. I had a simple peach tea and classic ensyamada. It is very good quality and the food was delicious. My uncle ordered a rice plate which I did not get the pleasure of trying yet, I will have to next time. I love the classic, very homey and cutesy comfy ambiance of the restaurant. I tried this place by recommendation and luckily, it was so close to my hotel. The front of the restaurant was so cute and inviting. The inside feels like you're right at home. Everyone is really nice and helpful. We ordered the seafood chowder, classic carbonara, extra garlic bread (because it was that good) and the Mary Grace tandem, which is the hot chocolate and ensaymada. Make sure you order it grilled. There's a slight crisp to it and it's amazing. My husband said the chowder was really good. I loved my carbonara. It was the perfect amount. For dessert, we had the Mary Grace tandem. This place is sooooo good! My cousin Hazel brought us here for a fantastic brunch. I had a typical Filipino breakfast that consisted of bangus, eggs, and garlic fried rice. Super delish! My family is a fan of this place! I'm just glad they don't have a location in the United States. Hands down they have one of the best endaymadas that I've had! They also make interesting variations such as the banana chocolate ensaymada, which my sister loved! I like to keep it plain and simple. I have always enjoyed the ensaymada at Mary Grace. And now, they've added a bottled hot chocolate that is absolutely delicious. But as good as it is, you don't need an ensaymada as expensive) at the one you get at Mary Grace. So now, what I do is I buy the bottled chocolate and take it home, and then I buy a much less expensive ensaymada that I can enjoy with the chocolate. Don't get me wrong. The ensaymada is very good. The problem is, it's so expensive. And when what you use the ensaymada is to dip into the hot chocolate, it's too darn expensive just for that, especially as good as the chocolate is. On a second topic, I have been testing breakfast places in San Francisco, Last Vegas, and in Manila. In the US, I usually order the eggs benedict. The least expensive eggs benedict in the US is around $12.00 while the most expensive is around $16.00. Well, eggs benedict is not a very popular breakfast in Manila so I usually try the bangus with egg or what some coffee shops call Bang-si-Log. And the best that I found cost around P400.00 or $8.00. But then, I found that Mary Grace has Eggs Benedict. So I ordered it. Never again, though. I'll stick to the ensaymada with hot chocolate. The eggs benedict was truly disappointing. First, instead of two poached eggs on english muffin, there was only one egg and it was very poorly poached. Then, it had a couple of leaves to add a touch of green, plus three slices of tomato, which totally skewed the taste of the eggs benedict. If I was just rating the ensaymada and hot chocolate, I would have given it 4 stars (4 instead of 5 because of the cost of the ensaymada). But since I was rating the eggs benedict, its dragged the whole rating down to 2 stars. So 4 + 2 = 6 divided by 2 = 3 stars. Sorry, Mary Grace. Next time, I will stick to ensaymada and hot chocolate or maybe cheese rolls. read more

You know that piece of chocolate cake that looks so good and then you bite into it and it's not that good? This is NOT that cake! This is the chocolate cake that all other chocolate cakes wish they could be. A piece runs about four dollars and is worth ever cent. The peach tea...Oh my goodness the peach tea! The first time I heard about Mary Grace was when my boss was raving about their Ensyamada. I got curious because she won't stop telling it to us and even brought a box to the office. I immediately grabbed one and when I opened the paper cover, I saw how fine the cheese covering the top. Wow. I can't get over the fact that it is really good! So when my Tita came home from abroad, I brought her to Mary Grace we both tried it for the first time. I ordered their Salmon pasta and she had leek and saffron pasta with cream dory. Both dishes are so good and flavorful! I asked her to try the ensaymada. I didn't know that you could have it toasted. When I thought that it was the one, the toasted version was the best one. Stumbled upon here around 7:00pm after wandering Bonifacio High Street with the family. Waited about 5 minutes to seat our group of 9, which was due more to lucky table availability rather than prompt service. We waited about 20 minutes for all of our food. I got the Classic Carbonara--there wasn't anything extraordinary about the dish, but it was still darn good to satisfy my pasta craving. I also tried some of their Seafood Pasta (stole a bite from my mom) and it was delicious! However, the main star of Mary Grace is definitely their Ensaymada. My aunt recommended to get it grilled--and wow, after one bite I immediately thought, "I need to order more." It was very delectable and I can see why people rave about it. As for the place itself, it feels like a cozy aunt's house: very warm and inviting. This is by far my FAVORITE place for breakfast whenever I visit my mom in the Philippines. She lives in Serendra, so it's an easy walk. I LOVE their garlic rice, which is so flavorful and has rosemary in it. The garlic flavor is notably stronger than any other places I've had breakfast in the PI, but I like it. My favorite plate is the chicken inasal, which always has a nice smokey flavor. The friend bangus has also been tasty. Their ensaymada is my favorite out of the few Filipino bakeshops I've tried (compared to Conti's, Red Ribbon, and Goldilocks). They also offer a few different flavor variations which is nice. I like the cheese roll as well, which is like less sweet ensaymada bread, with more savory cheese. To drink I like the raspberry infused iced tea, and the iced mocha with an extra shot (too sweet otherwise). read more

I'd like to say this is the first cafe that Mary Grace opened. Seldom do I see people just pass by the kiosks of Mary Grace in malls. I usually see people happily entering Cafe Mary Grace as they enjoy both the desserts and the main dishes of this place. My favorite time of the day to drop by is brunch. Compared to their regular menu, I love their breakfast menu. I am such a heavy breakfast eater so I always take note of the restaurants that serve good breakfast food. Tapa is really my go-to breakfast default food and ordering it in Mary Grace there is no doubt I was really happy and satisfied. The sinangag rice that comes with it is done well, tapa is soft and sweet and savory. There's always room for dessert / more carbs so I would always look forward to ordering their famous cheese rolls. When it comes to Café Mary Grace, I'm not really sure where to start. I have so much respect for this restaurant that I really want to make sure that I cover all of the bases. The history of this place goes all the way back to 1983, which means some of the recipes in this delightful restaurant's menu are even older than I am. I respect that. If I could choose to define or describe Café Mary Grace in one word, it would be quality. Here, they don't believe in using preservatives and they only utilize the freshest, most natural ingredients available. It isn't for the diet-conscious, but it is for the patron who appreciates an honest, authentic meal. My favorites off of their next-level menu are: vigan longganisa with scrambled eggs, the grilled kesong puti is a KILLER starter, wild mushroom soup, and prawn salad with mango papaya vinaigrette. Of course, it would be nothing but an utter and gross mistake to leave the premises without a bite of their grilled ensaymada and a side order of their tsokolate. Mary Grace is a place that is decorated so wonderfully weird! It feels more like your sitting in the livingroom of a little cottage owned by a sweet old lady rather than a restaurant. It is also what I consider to be a perfect "date place". Here you have great food with the added bonus of a nice atmosphere. It's got that "we're not in Manila" feel to it, and it's even nice to just look around the room. There's the added gimik of writing a cute note and placing it under the glass casing of some of the tables. Make it romantic and declare that table "your" table. My favorite dish here is the mushroom cream pasta. When the waiter brings it to the table and the smell of truffle oil wafts in... Yum! The servings are pretty big so its great for sharing with a pizza or something. Always an enjoyable experience dining here! read more

Fun fact: I used to live right across the owner of Mary Grace herself when I was little. I remember this because she used to recruit the village kids to help make boxes over the summer, and we'd spend a bit of the afternoon folding and assembling her boxes and getting paid in a tall glass of orange juice and a bowl of pancit canton and bread. Even though we moved, I sometimes pass by our old house and remember the afternoons spent helping her fold boxes, and the smell of ensaymada baking from her pseudo-factory down the street. So stepping into the Mary Grace cafe was sort of like traveling back in time. It smelled like the ensaymada cooking down the street of my old village, and the place even looks a bit like the house I used to live across. The toasted ensaymada and hot chocolate I ordered where very, very good, and the staff were all very nice and polite. The restaurant is good for a nice lunch with family or for catching up with friends over merienda. Out of everything on the menu though, you can't NOT eat the pastries. Mary Grace's pastries are some of the best I've ever had. In fact, they're so good that my family has made ordering her ensaymadas a Christmas tradition, and I haven't had a Christmas breakfast in the last 10 years that wasn't a Mary Grace ensaymada topped with queso de bola. Ordered the pork tocino for lunch and happy to see that the meat was lean! I also loved the flavour of the tocino and how it was seasoned. Unfortunately, the flavour of the rosemary rice was too strong and somewhat overwhelming which kind of ruined the entire dish. Very bad customer service in Mary Grace Serendra. I went there awhile ago to have breakfast. Nobody greeted me at the door so I walked in and asked for a table. While seated and looking at the menu a waiter approached me and told me that he had a couple waiting outside for a table. At first I was confused as to how that concerns me then it dawned on me that he was asking me to give up my table. I refused because it wasn't my fault that he wasn't at his post. Ive passed by this branch of Café Mary Grace a couple of times especially during the ber months when it was cooler. I would sit outside enjoy a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate, partnered with a piece of ensaymada while people watching. For some birthday parties that I went to, I would also go here to buy their chocolate cake or the sans rival. Both cakes are worth it and I normally choose which is which depending on the preferences of whom I'm giving it to. Eitherway, they have never failed me yet. The cheese rolls are also worth mentioning as a snack item, or meal, if you eat a lot of it, which you probably would have done on your first try. Mary Grace always feels like that perfect rest stop for post-shopping afternoons, errand runs, post-dinner snacks, or "wala-sa-oras" full meals. Lol. They have some of the heartiest pastas and pastries that would fully fall under the title "comfort" food. But not the junkfood kind, mind you. More like the thoughtfully prepared, yummy dish with fresh, real ingredients that you wish would be served to you when you're sick in bed or just feeling down... Haha. The food is like something that would come out of your own kitchen rather than something completely manufactured and overly prepared. There's just something so welcoming about it. It's like the treat of having that friendly tita who cooks really well and warmly calls you into the house to have a taste, haha. Maybe that's the whole idea of the place! They even have these cute non-matching servingware to go along with it and tables that have those little personalized notes from happy customers saying how much they loved the food or just saying hi to Mary Grace and the staff. I really like the Seafood Chowder and the Vongole pasta.
