When my father passed away last month, Maryland Cremation Services made a very difficult process, seamless and easy. Within two hours of the initial phone call, they were at the assisted care facility to pick up my dad. The gentleman who arrived was dressed in a suit, was very professional and caring, and walked me through all of the paperwork. I was able to pick up the cremains in less than a week and the woman that I met with was lovely. She even provided me with the information to obtain a burial flag from the VA. Not that I plan on using cremations services again anytime soon, but I will never use this one again. From the beginning it was a horror story, they lost my paperwork for a pre-planned cremation. I was power of attorney and was able to fill out and email it to them. I told them when it was emailed and to whom it was emailed. They claimed that they can only see the email for 24 hours and only the supervisor can access them after that. The supervisor was useless and my partially blind brother had to get his part of the paperwork filled out at the doctor's office and faxed to their office. Then they did not post my mother's obituary for at least a week. It took several emails and phone calls to figure out what kind of format it needed to be in. The only thing I thought went well was picking up the ashes and prayer cards. They did not ask me to check the prayer cards. Why would I need to? They have all the information from the death certificate. I never even looked at them. Somebody at my mom's service saw that it had the wrong birthdate. Nobody took them after that. I guess they figured I would return them and get new ones printed. I had planned on doing just that. Until I was told that for their mistake, I would have to pay an additional 10.00. Imagine that! They found the paperwork. They told me it looked like the date they printed. I asked a non-partial person to read the date back to me and she gave me the correct date. The supervisor of the Millersville location who would not give me her name told me I used their service because of the price, and I have not complained so far (goes to show how much she pays attention) and that paying an additional 10.00 to get partial cards should not be an inconvenience. At that point, I told her I have not been happy with the service, and the price was not the best I could have gotten. (I found out later that someone from my HS could have given me a much better price.) Then she told me if I was so unhappy I could have had another company pick up the body and move it to another location. Believe me, if I knew that was an option, I would have done it in a heartbeat. My husband passed away in hospice and i dudnt have much money for a funeral and cremation with a high end funeral home. I was told abot MCS and was happy with the price. I completed the forms and stated which urn i wanted which was included. I also ordered and paid for prayer cards. When i went to get his ashes. I received a completely different urn from what i ordered snd the prayer cards did not have the full verse on them even though it was stated on the order sheet. I was told the urn was back ordered as they had ran out and so they chose a fifferent urn and sent it out to be engraved eithout my knowlege nor approval. Absolutely one of the most heartless and unprofessional experiences I have ever encountered. During one of the most painful times of my life, Maryland Cremation Services showed zero compassion, no sensitivity, and complete disregard for the emotions of a grieving family. The representative was cold, rude, and extremely dismissive from the very beginning -- rushing through conversations and making what should have been a sensitive process feel like a cold business transaction. After collecting my payment, I was threatened that if I did not pay the full balance immediately, my loved one would be sent to the Maryland Anatomy Board. No family should ever be treated with such disrespect, insensitivity, or intimidation -- especially during such a vulnerable and emotional time. We decided to use Maryland Cremation services to cremate my Father. It was the worst "service" I have ever received. Promptly filled out the required paperwork and sent it back. They didn't mention it couldn't be signed electronically. Not a huge issue but would have been nice to know in today's world, got it printed resigned and sent back. Called the next day and they were ready to receive payment. They said they would pick him up and then call us when they received him. Then send us a ID form with a "presentable black and white photo" to identify the body. Never received that call. I gave them the rest of that day and till 1pm the next day to call. No call. So I said "I'll call them and see if they have him." Of course they had him, didn't know when they were going to make that call but sure glad I called because then they actually did their job and sent the form. Got that printed and signed since now I knew it had to be physically signed. Called to see when he was going to be cremated and they said he would probably be cremated the following Monday and we could pickup Friday. They called Tuesday and said it was finished and to call to make an appointment. Called to set up an appointment for 4:30. They said park in their spot and that they would have someone come out and greet us and bring us in. Got there and we were not greeted at all. We decided to walk in, there wasn't a person inside at all. Finally a male walks in and doesn't introduced himself, and I quote he said "what's up". In disbelief I said "what?!" because I didn't believe what I heard. And he said "what do you guys need". We said we were there to pick up our father, went back into a room closest to the entrance and they didn't even shut the door to make it a private moment. We signed the paperwork received my father/Death certificates and got out of there fast because it didn't feel like a welcoming environment. I hope someone reads my experience here and decides to go else where. Very disappointed. This might be your cheapest option and what your loved one wanted, but I wouldn't go back here if they offered free cremation. Sick to my stomach! read more

A absolute nightmare!!! One of the worst traumatic experiences of my life! I paid for one hour to view my son's body. I was given less than 15 minute, talked to like I was trash. Told he needed to get my my son's body in the furnace today!!! His ashes were not ready 10 days later for his memorial service. They told me wasn't cremated yet! I was sent away after a six hour drive to make a appt the next afternoon. They took less then 5 minutes in this " appointment" to hand me a plastic box "free urn"with ashes. I have serious concerns that the remains I received were actually my sons. A tragic experience made somehow even worse by these unprofessional, disgusting and cruel people!! read more

We used this cremation company for a family member. From start to finish, staff was nice and compassionate. Forms were easy to complete. Facility was spotless. Explanations and/or questions were explained and they were willing to take the time you needed. You do have to make an appointment here and thats a plus as you get that individualized attention. Choices of urns are plentiful as well as jewelry to hold ashes if you would luke to have that sort of momento. The staff take care of everything, from picking up the deceased to getting the death certificate. Its nice to be able to take care of everything required in one facility. Highly recommend. read more

This place is awful!!! We called them after my Dad passed away at home and they said they would be at the house within half an hour. It took them six hours to get there. When we called to find out where they were after an hour,we were told they had car trouble (something that impaired the van and wouldn't be able to fix themselves) and had to go back to get a different van. We asked why the driver didn't call us to let us know and they said that they don't give out the phone numbers to the drivers. So we asked why the office didn't call us and they said that they didn't think about it. So we waited again. When they finally showed up, they were rude and inconsiderate of our feelings. They said that they didn't understand why we were so upset about them being late. Well, let's see, my Dad just passed, we had to call and wake up his 6 other children to give them the news in the middle of the night, no one cared to tell us you had "car trouble", we spent 6 long hours with my deceased Dad in the living room, his great-granddaughter wakes up and sees the man she truly loves dead, the woman we called was rude and now you're being rude. Huh, tell me that we shouldn't be upset. I know one thing, regardless of how inexpensive they are, we will never use them again and would definitely NOT recommend them to anyone! We cannot say enough about the support and services provided by Chris and Travis during the passing of my husband's brother. My brother-in-law passed away unexpectantly while in a rehab facility. He had never discussed his wishes and had no arrangements made. Having a 4 hour time frame, we needed to make arrangements quickly. Our first contact was Chris. She was so compassionate and supportive in guiding us through the process. The cost was very reasonable, under $1000.00 for everything. There was never any pressure to purchase extra services. The worst funeral services place unprofessional, inconsiderate, rude and discourteous. Initially was told to fill out the paperwork and the paperwork in, then proceed with the payment. So me and my family did that for them to call my brother and ask him is this Dilon Barnette and he tells no his name is Dyon Barnette and they proceeded with the back and forth " is this dilon no this is Dyon" several times until she finally ask him did he sign the paperwork. He tells her that he's grieving and he doesn't know he signed a lot of papers, for her to tell him his signature is fraud and she doesn't feel comfortable going through with the process. I call back to see what's the problem. She tells me she think it's fraud, so for them to go through with everything, my brother had to fill out did paperwork and we both have to get it notarized. Which I never heard of. But still we both did that he fill out his paperwork and got it notarized and I got my paperwork notarized. To call n check on everything now she telling me she can't read the writing and I'm missing a line on a page to fill out. So I told her that's the same paperwork I just went to get notarized so I don't know why now all of a sudden u can't understand then I ask is that all I need is to fill out what I'm missing. For her to say to be honest she doesn't feel comfortable with going through with this. My father died Monday night I talk to Maryland Cremation Services on Tuesday. It is now Thursday. I've been giving the run around had to pay to get these paperwork notarized just for my services to be denied. My father body has been sitting at Holy Cross now they saying they can't hold his body any longer. I would've just went to a different funeral home if I knew me my family was going to taken through all of this. I don't understand and hurt now I don't know what to this is the first I had to things like this me being the oldest son I have to take care of it. read more

Their service, pricing, and care of my husband was fair and reasonable. However, they IGNORED multiple requests to be notified when they received death certificates so I could pick them up in person, despite assurances each time I called that "we will call you immediately on receipt of the death certificates." They put the death certificates in the U.S. Mail. I live only 40 miles away. One week since mailing... the death certificates are lost in the mail. This would not have happened had they honored their promise to call me. If you use this company, make it abundantly clear on your forms that they should never use the USPS to deliver death certificates. Doesn't work. read more

I can't speak highly enough about Maryland Cremation Services. This company was incredibly professional, thorough, transparent and considerate. The owner Mrs. Marshall was compassionate, as was the kind woman who helped me when I picked up my father's ashes. Anyone with an ill or recently-passed loved one knows the business side of getting them care or making arrangements can become overwhelming. These people were a fresh breath of air in the process, making it feel like I had one less thing to sort through or worry about. My father passed away and his final wish was to be cremated. We had no idea what to do and had nothing prearranged. He passed late at night so we had to make arrangements quickly. They were there with in 2 hrs and were very professional. The paperwork was able to be handled online. They called in a few days and said everything was complete and I could pick my dad up. When I went to pick him up it only took about 15 to complete paper work and leave. They don't keep the proper paperwork, they are not organized, they never return calls, and on top of all that, when you ask a question or bring up they're unorganozation the directors every other sentence is the threat of "i will hang up" because she is not professional nor educators enough to use grown up words to express herself. just child like sentences. this is the last thing that I would expect from a place who provides such an important service! The day Jimmy passed away they were there shortly after we called, and the two individuals who came were so caring and supportive. After my husband passed, the hospice services recommended MCS. I did not know what to expect, but after contacting them, the office staff there were very kind and helpful. They took some information over the phone and sent the necessary papers for me to fill out to get things going. The two individuals who picked up my husband from our home were kind, respectful and compassionate. It took about three weeks though to get the Urn and the papers, but we were told that since we had the Urn engraved, it took longer and they were waiting on it to come back. Lucinda was very helpful, kind and considerate which made the process easy for us when we came to pick him up. The only reason I didn't give it a five star is because first they couldn't find our paperwork in the beginning and so we had to resend it again. Second, I had to call a few times to find out where we was in the process. They said they had called us, but we checked and we did not see any calls from MCS. Maryland Cremation Services made this process so easy. During the COVID-19 crisis we had a loved one die unexpectedly (not virus related). We live in Texas and due to all the travel restrictions and stay-at-home orders, we had to make arrangements long distance. Not only was Maryland Cremation Services the most cost effective of all the places I called for quotes (I called 5), they had everything wrapped up within 48 hours and our loved one arrived in their urn on our doorstep almost 1 week to the day, from start to finish. The pricing was reasonable and the care of my mother was fair. However, the lady that assisted me when I went to pick up my mom was rude. I understand for Covid reasons we could not come in the establishment, however before I got out of the car she asked to put my mask on. (she neglected to say at that time that should would come to the car to take care of the rest) I walked up to the door for her to say that she will meet me at my car. She could have said that when she demanded me putting on my mask while I was in my car with my windows up. They called me exactly 2 months later to inform me that the death certificates were going to be mailed out. I live out of state but the mail was running great, even the mail from out of state. I did not pay for certified mail and I paid $70 something dollars for all of the certificates. 2 Months later and I still have not received them. All they said is that they can be reordered but I will still have to pay more money and that's it. I went to Vital Check to get the certificates instead and received them 4 days later. Hmmm....I wonder why I received these so quick. If you do get death certificates from them only order 1 you may get it in the mail. If you order more than 1 you won't receive them unless you pay for certified mail which is an extra fee on top of all the money you are paying for their services. He was on time, impeccably dressed, very professional, and so kind... as a house full of women, none of us knew exactly how to tie Bertie's tie, but Mr. Tucker was happy to assist. I don't think we could have had a worse experience. When they mailed my mother's remains, they omitted the paperwork, including death certificates that I had paid for. When I called to let them know, the woman in the office basically said I was lying and that they never leave out the paperwork. It was unbelievable. I said I have the box and there is no paperwork in there. No apology, just accusations. A week later, the mysterious paperwork arrived without a call or a note. I have used Maryland Cremation Services on two different occasions. I have found the entire staff, especially the owner, Mrs. Marshall to be extremely helpful cooperative and friendly. It takes a special type of people to be in this profession. When my Mom passed, this company was recommended by a friend. The owner,Ms. Marshall made it a horrible experience. After a billing error on their part (we were charged once, then tried to bill again hitting our credit card several times to see what would go thru) ms Marshall called me at work, arguing that our card was declined. Both me and my husband saw our statement, told her they already charged us, and she would not listen. She called back several times and threatened to Hold my Mom so we could use another company. It was all HER fault. The other employees were kind and apologetic, but the damage was done. She is all about money and did not offer one kind word or sympathy, and had the nerve to charge our card 5 dif times to see what she could get. Heartless in an industry that claims to care about their clients in a sensitive time of loss. Basically held my mothers body till payment that they already had! She left a heartfelt message after about a week once she realized it was her fault, but she needed to call us immediately if there was a problem- not take what she could get and then call. They ended up refunding over $600 she overcharged us. I thought long and hard before writing this review. I wouldn't want any other family to experience the same situation, and after searching the internet, I found I am not alone. Simplicity offered to help, were very kind. The worst. No one there is truthful and they get mean when you object - then they failed to pick up the remains! When the hospice called they lied to say someone would be there in a few minutes - then an hour later the hospice called again because nearly 3 hours had passed but no one had shown up - and a few minutes later the driver called to say she would be there in 30 minutes. Said she had "personal health issues" so it took nearly two hours before starting out from Baltimore! The office staff was even worse, cancelling the driver because I called to complain that I had been waiting (at their request) from 3am until after 5am to identify the body. Meanwhile the hospice nurses were shocked, saying they are usually the ones who do that and it was shameless for this company to do that - especially in the middle of the night (and then be hours late responding) read more
