I know this place is going to change its name to Marymoore Games, but hopefully they keep these reviews, because this place, and the people who work here, are good honest people. I went to visit Redmond for the weekend and I just so happened to come across this store at the Town Square plaza, in which they had a new restock of various Pokemon cards. There were quite a few people waiting outside for the store to open. Eventually, an employee unlocks the front door and comes out with a box filled with random numbers. Instead of just running in the store and buying everything, the employees have a number system. You pull a number out of a box and that is your place in line. The numbers range from 1-45 or so. Once in the shop, each person is only allowed to purchase one Pokemon pack, bundle, or ETB a day. If someone wanted more, then they'd have to come back the next day. That means you must choose your product wisely. I can't tell you enough how much I love that system. In a world full of scalpers, I totally respect this place for not allowing that sort of garbage happening in their shop. I would also like to praise them for their amazing prices. For the most part, they sell Pokemon cards at close to MSRP prices. It's a little over, but not by much. If you want a First Partner pack, it'll usually cost you $50, but I got mine at Uncle's for $25. That was such a great deal because I got my Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle set, and an SIR Mega Kangaskhan ex. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely come support this place. Came here to browse some board games. They have plenty of options beyond just mainstream games (e.g. Ticket to Ride, Catan, Agricola, Pandemic) and lots of expansions. The staff person behind the counter was friendly, but not overbearing. There is plenty of table space for playing games, and they have demo games available for play as well as gently used games for sale. They also have many card packs for various deck building games. I've been to the Crossroads location back when it was still around and found the staff there friendly and helpful! I'm new to Magic the Gathering and wanted to try playing in person after playing for a few weeks on Arena. I had some questions regarding their pre-release event, so I jumped on discord to ask some questions there to get some clarity. Over the last few days, I've been in communication with James who came off cordial at first, who then turned condescending and demeaning the more questions I asked, because my questions weren't being addressed at all or clearly. I was made to feel like I had a comprehension issue, which I admit I do at times. The description of the event wasn't clear to me, which is why I was asking to get clarification and wasn't expecting to be received by such rudeness. I really wanted to attend this pre-release event, but I am going to be passing as it sounds like James is the one hosting the event and I would rather not have face to face contact with an individual like this. I'm sure not all of the staff is like this this, but this is my first and only interaction with a staff member at this location and event though it's the closest card shop near me, I'd rather go somewhere else like Mox's in Bellevue where my experience has been very pleasant. read more

I used to play a trading card game here with my oldest child years ago and it's a core memory of a truly wonderful time in their childhood. More recently, my youngest took an interest in Pokémon and Uncle's once again was the spot for that- especially buying single cards. HOWEVER!!!! This store really needs an air filtration system or doors-left-open or something. The odor when we've stopped by the last year is quite offensive. It's often warm in there and reeks of farts and body odor. It's not good. The store was busy and everyone in there seems to be having a great time which is wonderful, but we've had to u-turn after entering the last couple because the smell was so bad. Maybe we've just been unlucky on timing but a little clean air management sure would be nice. read more

Inside is spacious with wide tables to try out games or attend a nightly game event. Staff is friendly and do not pressure you to leave even after staying for a couple of hours. I'm a fan. They have quite a selection of fun games, and you can usually find something to entertain yourself there. Though don't expect video games. This is NOT EB. Also, there are certain nights that you may want to avoid as each night is a different game-night. Meaning people come to play specific games on certain nights, and the games rotate. I say that you may want to avoid some nights because some games tend to be played by certain people who for whatever reason are less than inclined to...well... bathe. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about any ethnicity, I'm just talking about hygiene. And there are certain nights/days when the store is quite pungent from the 'aroma' of the hygiene-lacking patrons. That aside, most days it's a great store to browse. Even if you're a pet owner there are items there for your furry friends! (Okay, not specifically for them, but WHO DOESN'T LIKE TOYS!?!) read more

This is THE game store in the Seattle area if you like board and card games. It's also going to hit the spot if you like to do jigsaw puzzles or play chess. The staff knows a lot about games; not only are they all avid game players, but every staff meeting involves learning how to play a new game. Staffers are encouraged to show customers how to play games that they're considering, and they have open copies of most games so that you can see what the pieces and board are like, read the rules, and so forth. Almost every night of the week, there's a different group of people gathering at the tables and chairs to play games and socialize. Friday nights are the highlight of the gaming week, with a dozen or more gamers enjoying each other's company and the free soft pretzels (from Wetzel's http://www.yelp.com/biz/PMMStMcKrhonNnDvG1aFcA?hrid=ABYgcKYS7AWlUGaKGWR2dg) provided for all. Let's get this out of the way now. I don't consider myself a Seattle elitist but I immensely dislike heading eastside unless absolutely necessary. There are a handful of places that I'll traverse the water for but for the most part, traffic and tolls makes me less likely to be excited for a Redmond excursion. And I might still be bitter that my car was vandalised when we first moved here during a shopping trip to the Container Store. Not the Audis or Volvos or BMWs, it was my lovely little xB that got keyed. But I'm getting off-topic, onto my review : ) We were in the area killing time before a dinner date with friends. I knew about Uncle's Games because I had seen it once while driving through the area. My husband hopped out of the car and ran in, liking it so much that we ended up going to the shop AFTER our dinner finished! The store was well maintained with lots of stock and friendly staff. The store was also very well-lit, almost painfully so. I don't know if that had to do with the MtG night that was happening. The store was packed and a little louder than I imagined it usually was. That said, the players weren't rude or crabby when I asked to pass or move around them. My overall experience was so good that I found myself wishing Uncle's had a westside presence. I have much love for Card Kingdom but competition is a good thing and it would be nice to have two places to peruse. read more

THEY HAVE MASS EFFECT PLAYING CARDS HERE. Yes this is a cute game store out in Redmond Town Center. My friends and I came over here to kill some time before watching a movie. The store has this great policy where if you buy a game and play it at the the store the same day (this includes games like Magic where it's card based) you get 15% off your total. How COOL is that. They have a large playing area with tons of demo games for you to try. Pretty much every board game you expect is here. The back wall is full of crazy board games that are a bit more complicated than say Monopoly, Clue, etc. But the middle area has more casual/kid games like Uno, Clue, Set, etc. read more

Uncle's Games has a great selection of games, and a great atmosphere. Their large tables are great for play testing games, and the Redmond location has a paint set that you can use if you want to try painting minis. The staff is always friendly and willing to help find games that you'll like. The only caveat is that I would probably not try pre-ordering games through them, as their system for doing this is not reliable. I ordered a DnD gift for my husband, but when I came into the store next time, I found that they had it in stock. When I asked about my order, they told me they had the pre-order written down as some kind of kids UNO game...which was pretty far off. We've also tried pre-ordering a few other items, but had similar experiences with not getting calls, or getting the wrong item. read more

In the almost Stepford-like town of Redmond, Uncle's Games proved a fun and slightly different shop to browse. I was just wandering round the mall randomly and saw this place. The shelves held a treasure trove of games. Some were for children but there were a lot of adult (or big kids!) games available, ranging from board to card to collectible. It's a real shame that I was on the weight limit for my flight back home and so couldn't buy anything to bring with me. This uncles location is great! I used to come here back in high school to buy booster decks and mech warrior pieces. My friends recently dragged me with them to play magic and this store was a wave of nostalgia for me. It honestly looks the same as it first opened! The staff are very friendly and there are plenty of tables to play some magic or any other tabletop game. Also there is a whole wall of free to play games! My family and I love this store. We've been coming here for years, for purchases large and small. There's a huge selection of jigsaw puzzles and board games, and toys and games of all sorts. I like how you can come here and just get some dice if needed; there's never any pressure to buy anything, nor evil looks for just browsing for awhile. In fact, the sales help here have always been super nice and quite knowledgeable, whenever I've inquired about getting kids' gifts, or how certain toys or games worked. In fact, I've even asked the staff here about some games that my own kids received as gifts, not quite understanding the directions. Walking in: You are greeted by one of the friendly, experienced staff members. The store is well lit and organized by category (Euro-games, logic/strategy games, puzzles, etc.). Service: This store is all about great service. The staff members are a rare breed. They are gamers with a wide range of knowledge and experience with many, many games and yet they are not snobs when dealing with new or non-gamers. In short, they could talk in detail about the latest Dungeons and Dragons rule book, but they have the good social sense not to, unless you want to. Experience: This store has several games they keep on hand to demonstrate a game if you're not sure you'll like it. They'll help you with the rules and even play a turn or two as time allows so you can get a feel for it. If you want to know more about a game they don't have open, they are usually willing to open a copy to let you look at the rules, even if they can't let you play it. Many nights of the week they will have special events where you can meet other local gamers interested in the kind of games you like (trading card games, miniatures games, family games, etc.) Friday nights are one of the most popular. On Friday, they stay open until midnight, allowing anyone who wants to play a game to play. Usually any game goes, but the general focus is on Euro-games. Anyone who shows up to play gets a 15% discount on whatever they end up purchasing. Cost: Uncles carries a number of things you can get at some of the big chain stores (Target, Toys R Us, etc.), and those items are usually more expensive at Uncles. Other items, only available at specialty game shops like Uncles are competitively priced. It may be possible to find them cheaper online, but then you miss out on the great personal service and social experience (Friday night gaming). Overall: Uncles has another local store in Crossroads and both stores are about the same, but the store in Redmond Town Center has more space, and therefore, it seems like they have more inventory. The range of experience with products is extensive at both stores, but I think the Redmond store has the edge on knowledge, especially in the realm of jigsaw puzzles (cut, quality, etc.). If you love gaming of any sort, you'll love Uncles service and selection. read more

If you've never been to Uncle's you should check it out! They have all kinds of board games, card games, puzzles, and a lot of stuff you've probably never heard of. It's fun to pick up some random game and then inflict it on your friends. I prefer this location over the Crossroads one. The store is a little bigger, much easier to get around in, and the staff is a lot more friendly and helpful. For example, I received a game as a gift that didn't look like that much fun to me so I went to take it back. Apparently it was some uber-hot game that they couldn't keep in stock and were like, "Umm, you sure you want to exchange this? It's pretty fun". I was dubious so they busted out their play copy and played a game with me. As I thought, it really wasn't that big of a deal of a game so I went ahead and exchanged it, but it was nice of them to try to help instead of just snatching it up. They have a lot of game nights too, so you can go in and play different things with people. read more

I went here on Friday night with some friends to play games since they are open until midnight on Fridays. There were lots of games going on, thus lots of gamer geeks. It made for a pretty fun time. The staff is really helpful and super friendly. They have a great selection of games for purchase, as well as a huge selection of games you can play in the store. We played a good variety of games and I had a lot of fun just browsing the store and seeing what they had for sale. My boyfriend and I decided we wanted to tackle a huge puzzle at home, so before we left, I picked one out and took it up to the counter. To my surprise, it rang up cheaper than the price tag listed. When I asked about it, the employee who rang me up told me that if you come in and play games on Fridays, you get 15% off any purchase. Score! Uncle's is one of the best game shops I have been to in the country. While the selection of RPGs, war games and miniatures (we do have a Games Workshop here, though!) is a bit sparse, I don't think anything else is missing. They also stock some pretty esoteric stuff in the back where only the true geeks dare tread, as it should be. I've even seen a few specialty titles on the shelf that I'd normally only see at a con; it's great to see a local, independent shop supporting indie publishers. Count on spending at least an hour here, more if you ask to try out a game or two! read more
