You're here strictly for the food--nothing more, nothing less. I ordered the 3-taco combo (asada). The tacos are on the smaller, tapas-size end, so don't expect a hearty portion. Flavors were decent and fresh, but the price felt a bit high for the size and overall experience. The agua fresca (melon) was refreshing and probably the highlight of the visit. If you're looking for a quick, casual bite and don't care about ambiance or service, this may work for you. Just come with calibrated expectations. I wanted to like this place after seeing 4.5 stars on yelp but unfortunately it's a one star for me. I got the cacti burrito with asada, and a crazy corn. I'm not afraid of salt but the crazy corn was so salty. Burrito was so salty as well, and the rice in the burrito was not fully cooked and pretty crunchy. I had to spit out half of the asada as it was like rubber. I don't usually leave 1 star reviews but I do when I wasted $30 with tip for an inedible burrito, corn, and Coke. By now you have figured out that this place is pretty good, so I will dispense sage like advice on how to make your experience better. This advice comes from first hand experience on a recent trip to Mary's. First off, don't do like I did and walk in and expect to walk out in 5 minutes. All this food is cooked fresh, so you are going to wait for it. Second, Don't do the walk in at lunch time. This will only add to your misery. Third, if you decided to ignore the first two bits of advice, have something to keep you occupied outside the restaurant. It is too small for folks to be standing around for 20 minutes waiting for food. While I was awkwardly standing around the restaurant like a confused amateur, I noticed a few things; The locals phone their orders in. Even if they are going to sit in the restaurant and eat, they pre order before they get there. I found this odd and ingenious at the same time. A group of three guys came in and two had phoned ahead. their meals came out shortly after their arrival while the third member of the group had to wait an additional 10-15 minutes for his food. It was his first time. The "To Go" orders seemed to go quickly for those that phoned their orders in about 20-30 minutes in advance. The food is definitely worth the visit, but plan ahead so you don't leave grouchy. read more

If your a vegan driving through, please stop in. If your not, stop in anyway. They have a lot of options. Really hit the spot for my urge to get some good Latin home food. Food was delicious!!!! You can ask for the vegan chorizo on any taco, gordita etc. And the agua frescas were divine. Service was great, we got menus and quick assistance. We've been getting carry out here since they opened. The food is so fresh and flavorful you'd swear a little Mexican lady was slaving in the kitchen all day preparing her family favorites. You won't find many places like this in Virginia so if you're passing through Woodstock and you want some real deal Mexican then look no further. Inside is small but can accommodate small groups. Not a fan at all... as I am Mexican and lived most of my life in SoCal so I kind of know what GOOD Mexican food should tastes like. I ordered my food to go and waited for my food inside. I understand this is a mom and pop place but damn it was small and very little seating. Someone who ordered food to go didn't get salsa, and then when a worker gave the customer salsa but didn't charge him, the owner began to belittle the worker letting him know how much each salsa costs... take that shit in the back so customers can't hear this crap it's a terrible look, an beware a lot of people who don't look like they know Spanish sometimes do as I am one of those lite skined latinos and understand EVERYTHING! Now I ordered 8 tacos, a carnitas burrito, beef tamale, and Menudo. The tacos were dry and i only got 7, and of all things they didn't give me salsa... maybe this is how they get their extra 75 cents per salsa. The burrito was not good at all and for some reason there was corn in it... what the heck. They forgot the tamales and i am sure they would have been dry too. Now here is the sad part...as this dish was the only reason I wanted to try this place... the menudo, it was 16 bucks for 5 pieces of meat and 2 HUGE bones with not one piece of hominy. The broth wasn't all that great either, and mind you menudo is a poor man dish so it shouldn't be so pricey... but when there are not a lot of places that serve this, people feel the need to charge more. Next time I get the craving I will just go pick up some canned menudo as that's better than this place in my opinion. And I paid over 70 buck for all of this that should have been no more that 50. I will NEVER go back and take a longer drive to a better place. read more

This cozy place deserves a five star rating. They're not the typical Mexican tastes that you find everywhere , they're definitely different. They try to bring some authenticity in the taste of food. They also have a supply of popsicle supplied by a specific maker and wide variety of delicious options. We stopped by during our ride to West Virginia and totally got lucky. I'm sorry I didn't take photos--I didn't think of it until after I polished everything off! They disappeared too quickly as we enjoyed an authentic Mexican (from Michoacán) meal over a fire on a beautiful evening in the Valley. Javier works with his mother who started this place three years ago, and they've honed the recipes so that they remain traditional, hearty, and appealing to a range of tastes. So I ordered that, trusting that he should know what's really good there. I don't like rice in my burritos so I asked for extra beans instead. I grabbed 4 different house made sauces from the cooler for our table and then IT happened! I tasted the burrito that I will compare ALL FOOD to from this day forward! Magical pork perfection cradled lovingly by a chewy fresh flour tortilla with its toasty warm edges. I'm actually doing the carnitas burrito a disservice by using human words to describe it! I didn't take pictures, it's ok. It's better this way. Instead, close your eyes and try to imagine a brief but spectacular spark of perfection kissing your lips and relaxing your whole body!
