Walking into Mary's Diner this morning (3/2/18) was like a blast from the past. I was having my car serviced at Blasius and this is a hop, skip, and a jump away. Having grown up in Waterbury, Mary's Diner is in the space of the former Piasano's Restaurant. The decor is exactly the same as I remember it. I have fond memories of being six years old for family breakfast drinking hot chocolate in the second booth with views of the main road. Today, we sat in the same exact booth. The homefries are mediocre as someone else has mentioned. I'm not one for potatoes to begin with, but they could have been left on the grill for a little while longer. I had an omelette with tomatoes, spinach, and cheddar cheese which is the Mary's Omelette 86 feta sub cheddar. The tomatoes tasted out of season, which I expected for March and the spinach tasted like the frozen kind but hey. Quick food. My coffee cup was never empty and as a mom to a rambunctious toddler I appreciate the little things in life. Some of the girls are waitresses at the original Mary's across town, but I'm not sure if they're working both or just moved to the newer one. We would return, especially for the taste of nostalgia. read more

From the $3.95 special to the super clean grill; to the exceptional waitresses; to the clean floors; and spacious dining experience. I had a Western Omelette at Mary's 2 last week and it was excellent. I haven't visited this location in a long time and my most recent visit exceeded my expectations. The waitress was very attentive. She refilled my coffee several times and checked in with us. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for an excellent breakfast read more

We call in omelettes or sandwiches when we have an inkling for breakfast. The food is quick, clean, fresh and tasty. It's not anything mind blowing. But its consistent and hearty. The woman who typically answers the phone is very pleasant and friendly regardless how busy they are. It's a bit pricey, but you always get your order correct. I've been here a couple times before and would have to say the food is okay, but not great. The eggs were under flavored and not at all fluffy. The pancakes were nothing special - I felt like they could've been made from box mix and the syrup was not helping matters. The home fries had an overcooked crust and too much soft inside. I did like the bacon though, even though that's really not hard to mess up. There was nothing really bad here, but everything was just extremely average. I feel like if you're going to spend money on breakfast you'd probably want to go elsewhere. read more

The staff practically know our order when we walk in and you can't really stop them from refilling your coffee cup as long as you occupy your table. The food is good. The staff are like family. How can you mess up toast and a grilled blueberry muffin?? Well , Mary's diner did. First toast should be toasted and hot . Server white and cold. Muffin cold and stale. My favorite diner ever! I go here all the time with my grandmother. The prices are relatively low, the food is always piping hot and delicious, and the staff are always kind and smiling. Every time I'm asked where I want to go for lunch, I suggest this place, and every person I've brought has enjoyed the ambiance and food as much as I have. It gives such calming, homey vibes while at the same time feeling like just your average cute little diner. There's not a single waitress/waiter that doesn't know what they're doing, and they all have so much charisma. The conversations are just as good as the food they serve! The one thing I can't get over about this place, their FRENCH FRIES! they're so crunchy, but also soft on the inside. It's the perfect combination and no other place can beat it. I usually go to this restaurant because it's right down the street from where I live. I go there to have breakfast maybe once or twice a week. I just had breakfast this morning there and became irate because I was there by myself and almost until the end of me completing to eat my breakfast the owner comes to me and asked me if I could move to another table because there is a larger party waiting for that table and literally almost touch my plate! I was so irritated that I am not going to step foot in that restaurant again. I am a customer as much as the other people coming into that restaurant and I think that was not appropriate. read more

Food was disgusting, ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and received a hard ass fried egg with a slice of cheese put on top not melted or nothing, pancakes were hard and bitter. So glad this place opened up right down the street from me. We've gone only twice , but the food is good and hot. I had a philly chessesteak wrap the first time and mashed potatoes ( that were not great but it was only noon time so I'll let it pass) and I had breakfast the next time. I've never been to the original Mary"s, so since I was off I thought I'd try Mary"s 2. The location is good, and it was clean inside. Seating was pick your own which was nice. My waitress was I'd say just ok. The food and beverage were served promptly, as was my order. The food came looking good, as I ordered scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, hash browns,, and toast. The eggs looked ok, but I didn't see or taste much cheese. Not sure if there really was any, anyway the food tasted ok, but no seasoning salt, etc. hash browns were cooked well but also needed a little flavor. I'm not one to put much salt on my food unless I taste it and it needs so. Bacon was ok nothing to write about. My only other issue was my waitress who I only saw 2 times at order and check. Never came and asked was everything ok or can I get something else. Although other staff came and gave my food and asked if I like more coffee. I just didn't get the feeling she really cared. It's unfortunate to me because I hate to prejudge a place, but sometimes in Waterbury this is what you get. Had the food tasted better and my server been nicer. I'd give a better review and rating. But now that I've been I don't think I'll be back any time soon. read more

I had gone to Mary diner 2 for the first time this weekend with my family. Not only was the food delicious and came out fast, but our waitress was efficient and so welcoming. She had a nice smile and made my whole family laugh. She always made sure our coffee was full and anything we needed she brought as soon as we asked. Rat droppings and bugs around the restaurant. Toilet was clogged and super gross!!!!!! 3rd world country experience. On top of that..... Went to go eat with my mom and dad when they visited from out of state. My mom doesn't eat meat so she ordered a no bun burger and asked to get a garden burger instead. The waitress informed us that the owner said it would be an extra $5. We asked to speak to the owner and she told the waitress to inform us that she doesn't want to come over. So we went up front where she was standing to pay for our drinks and cancel the rest of our order. We asked to speak to the owner and she said there not here. We clearly saw our waitress talk to her and tell us she was the owner. She blatantly lied to us. What kind of business is this? Pathetic. No business sense what so ever. Greedy and pathetic. Went there and my wife asked to substitute a veggie burger for regular burger, which most restaurants would do at no cost. Our waitress spoke with the manager and came back and said it would be an additional $5. When I questioned the waitress that a regular burger was $4.75 and a veggie burger was $6.75 so way would the upcharge be $5 not $2 and asked her to speak with manager which at first she refused but when did she said manager said she could charge what she wanted. I asked to speak with manager and she said the manager said she was busy (although I saw her at the front desk just standing there doing nothing). We ultimately canceled our order and walked out. While paying for our coffee the manager refused to admit she was the manger and refused to speak with us. Extremely unprofessional management/staff and will never go back. read more

The worst place to go have breakfast on a Sunday morning. When my family and I went to have breakfast on a Sunday we waited a while to be seated and serviced. To add insult to injury, the waitress served me the wrong order. Mary's staff is not equipped to handle a lot of customers. That experience turned me off from ever going back. read more

Great breakfast spot, same food as the Mary's across town. Service is unbelievably fast and the staff is so personable and friendly. It's nice going in someplace and the waitresses know what your usual order is - and when you forget to order the shredded potatoes (THE best part of the entire meal!), they remind you! Wish I lived closer but always worth the drive! Never tried anything beyond breakfast here but love that they do serve breakfast all day. read more
