My husband and I were searching for a place to stop for Lunch on our way home from our road trip today that seemed good, quick, casual, inexpensive and close to the highway. I wound up finding this place on the app and we decided to try it. Great service and their roast beef club was the bomb! Very disappointed. From the minute we walked in the door the girl who "greeted" us behind the bar very incredibly rude...we almost walked out right there but we decided not to. We ordered (from a blonde with glasses) our drinks and then other people started to come in. A large table sat next to us. Our waitress helped them. Took her 25 minutes to come back out after placing their orders. She then proceeded to take their orders instead of coming back to us to place our order...we paid for our drinks with the person in the front and left. I then went back to the waitress and told her why we were leaving. The only response we got was an "okay". We won't be back and we won't be recommending. read more

I've heard of this place but never been. A great place to bring the family. Lots of choices for food with large portions to fill anyones appetite. The have great selections, the food tasted delicious. The staff was super friendly. Even with a packed house the food came out fast and they did not disappoint. I can see why people love this place. They also have a section for banquets so it's perfect for large parties and large events. I would recommend coming back here again. I can this being a must visit while being in Connecticut for a home style restaurant. read more

Had a fantastic breakfast at Maples! I'm a big breakfast person so this was a fabulous find. They make their home fries with onions and that is absolutely killer. I definitely recommend the French toast. And it's 5 o'clock somewhere, so may as well get the Irish coffee too! Very delicious. If you're in the area and are looking for breakfast, look no further. I write this review as I dine (posted after so service doesn't decline even more) but I came in with a group of 7 which I understand is large but for the host or manager or whatever he was to actually roll his eyes and seem visibly annoyed that we were there was crazy.... he proceeded to seat us very quickly with no problem so I wonder where the inconvenience fell. A member of my party then asked where the bathroom was and this same menu still visibly annoyed goes "where the signs at boss" like just a horrible first impression and I wouldn't return based off that alone. our server is friendly and helpful, and now that i am complete with my meal I can say it was good but on my last piece of toast I realized a dark circle on a portion of it and the bread tasted like pumpernickel so I hunk I ate mold. At this point I'm never returning and will be letting people know of my experiences. read more

I've tried this place about a year ago, so my experience may be different for anyone trying it out this year but I thought I would still leave a review. For starters this is a well-known place in CT and everyone recommends coming here at least once so my friend and I did decide to try it out immediately the type of crowd this place typically has, but the customer service was still pretty great to us, we did not have a long wait time from the beginning to the end and the waitress was very attentive. We did order multiple items on the menu. I cannot say that the food was not great but compared to other well-known diners in the area, I would say it's not my first choice, but still a good experience. The police does have an Erie feeling but if you like basic breakfast, this is your place to go. read more

Maples is a diner I've never been to and I had the chance to stop in for a lunch with a big group. The inside looks like your typical mom/pops diner and the decor is very dated. It definetly looks like a building and facility that's been there for a quite a while. Its a shame because the outside signage is pretty decent. The service was good when I went a couple weeks ago and I have no complaints about it. Our server was attentive and our food came out in a timely manner. I just didnt feel that the food itself was anything special. It doesn't compete well against other local diners that I've been to within a 10 mile radius. I don't remember what happened last time, but it has been over 15 years since I last stepped foot into Maples Restaurant. I live up the road and drive past it every day on my way to work but I never stop. We were invited to breakfast for Sunday morning by a few friends that live on campus at Post. We arrived 10 minutes prior to the agreed upon meeting time. We let them know, even though the sign said to seat yourself, that we would be a larger group of eight. There was a party set up in their banquet room so a hostess brought us to a table large enough for our group. We waited and waited for our party and they were late. However, the waitress was not annoyed and very patient with us. I had about three cups of coffee while I was waiting. I ended up ordering the maples omelette without roasted red peppers and added cheese. It was really good and I was very satisfied with my breakfast. My husband had his usual bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll with French fries and he didn't have anything negative to say either. Maples is most certainly a family restaurant - perfect home town diner. I've only ever eaten breakfast here and it's very consistent. The host and waitresses are always quick to acknowledge your needs. The coffee refills are flowing even on the busiest Sunday mornings. Whether it's crowded or not, the service is always attentive and personable - probably one of the main reasons I keep returning. The second reason is the food. Breakfast is always delicious, especially after a long night out the night before. Their hungry man breakfast with eggs, toast, sausage, and a waffle is sure to cure any hangover. Or you can opt for a seasonal special (like pumpkin themes stuff for the basic folk around autumn time). I usually get the omelets because they are huge and come with a half plate of home fries. The food is always the same anytime I've ordered it so my expectations are always met. If you're looking for a hometown diner with traditional breakfast options head to Maples. We had a large party visit for brunch the day after Thanksgiving. Most of us being from Ohio and not really impressed with these type of diners around us, were very surprised at how awesome everything was! I ordered the Oversized Waldorf salad and it was definitely oversized! My daughter and I were able to split it and still had enough for someone else to have a nice helping. The taste was also fantastic! For lunch I chose the Chicken Portofino (minus the chicken) and my daughter had the steak and eggs. My poor kid could barely get through 1/3 of her meal. This was a huge plate of food. She did say everything tasted good except the steak was a little over cooked. Not a big deal at all. I had a couple Mimosas that had a good champagne to OJ balance and everyone at the table seemed to really enjoy brunch. The highlight of the meal was our awesome server! I feel horrible for forgetting her name but she kept up with my high maintenance family like a champ and smiled and had a very good attitude!!! Definitely a joy to have with such a large party. "Mama's Meatloaf & Eggs" I invited my son to go to breakfast with me Saturday morning. Maple's is close to home and even closer to my wife's lingerie shop in Middlebury. The outside of the building is beautiful. Grey stone facade with maroon awnings. The inside is just as nice. Bright, cheerful, and clean. Maple's has a full service bar at the entrance of the restaurant. The black and white pictures of landmarks in the area bring you back to better days and the staff are all very friendly. My son had a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel with a side of home fries. I had Mama's Meatloaf & Eggs with homefries and rye toast. Meatloaf and eggs sounded like a strange combination which drew me to it even more. I'm prone to try items on a menu that most people would shy away from. I'm happy I did because it was delicious. The meatloaf was tender and well seasoned, the scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked, the rye toast was just the right color with just enough butter, and the home fries were great. Onions and seasoning mixed in with the potatoes and cooked to a golden brown. Everyone will love this dish. It's funny how restaurants close to home are sometimes forgotten about.
