The call with Gino was very unprofessional, he took the scheduled call from a Chipotle and was very clearly brushing off my questions/concerns. Things got worse once as we moved into questions, operations, logistics, and contracting. Trying to get these guys to send me a contract was like pulling teeth. It took 2 weeks for them to get me a contract, another week to get the rider that should have been attached, and another week to get edits. At the end, I started to feel uncomfortable with the fact that if they were treating me this badly BEFORE having a deposit, how would I ever be able to count on them? Instead, I went with another band, and guess what, Gino from Night Owl never reached back out to me! Their pricing is good but I found other bands at higher price points willing to match, with whom I actually felt comfortable shelling out $4,000+ for.

Since I turned off notifications about getting messages from business owners, hopefully I can say my piece without getting pestered. I get it. A $$$ ticket price gives you access to everything. I guess that is what happens when an event gets bigger every year; prices go up like it's freaking Disneyland or something. Hell, at least Disneyland offers military discount. With that said, I have gone to similar events (Ink-n-Iron back in SoCal when it still existed, Hot Rod Rock & Rumble in Colorado, etc.) Where the prices are more competitive. I get more bang for my buck without the crazy inflation (got to see many shows at Ink-n-Iron for cheaper, and Hot Rod Rock & Rumble actually has car races, drag strips, burn-outs etc.) plus military discount! That makes this patriotic pin-up happy. You'd think that with Nellis AFB being in Las Vegas and home of the Air Force Thunderbirds, and then the post-WWII period having that patriotic bent what with Elvis Presley being prior military and seeing Victory-themed Pin-ups everywhere, that there would be at least a military appreciation ticket for VLV like its competitors. Sadly, there is not. Instead, I left VLV feeling the occupation G.I. blues.

Lucky for me, Dolce Entertainment was the polar opposite of that. Michelle Gregory, our wedding coordinator and the owner of the Jones Victorian Estate, works with Dolce a lot for her events. Gotta love referrals. So much easier than doing all the legwork yourself. Michelle gave Dolce all my contact info, and Lisa Muir at Dolce emailed me the paperwork a few months before our event. I was a real slacker when it came to getting back to her, but Lisa was very patient. She'd just email me occasionally to check in and ask if I had any questions for her. The planning guide she uses covers all the basics, including: -What genres of music you'd like played. -Which songs you want to use for all the special dances. -Names of all the parents and wedding party members for the introductions. -Which traditions you do and don't want to include in your reception, such as bouquet toss, garter toss, special dances, etc. -Special song requests and dedications. -And, most important of all if you ask me, the songs you absolutely DON'T want played under any circumstances. Lisa also includes a list of their most-requested songs to help give you ideas. (Since a lot of the popular stuff is pretty Top 40-focused, most of it wasn't really our style. But hey, if nothing else it can help you come up with the list of stuff you don't want played.) I finally got the completed planning guide back to Lisa after a couple months, and she didn't mind at all when I asked later on about requesting specific songs for the cake toss, cake cutting and last dance. My husband also spoke to Lisa over the phone just to go over a few things about our music preferences, make sure they had music for the hora, etc. I'm sure we could've scheduled an in-person meeting if we'd wanted to, but we never felt the need. Jon (Lisa's husband, I think) is the DJ part of Dolce Entertainment, and he was exactly what I was looking for in a DJ. He looked a little like a member of the Secret Service in his dark-suit, dark-glasses combo, but that was fine by me. Jon was very friendly and professional and did a great job of playing the type of music we liked throughout our event, including our specific song requests. He never tried to sneak in any country songs or silly theme dances, both of which we'd banned entirely from our playlist. And you know it's gotta be soooo tempting as a wedding DJ to take over and play what you want. All in all, if you're looking for a DJ who gets it and won't try to hijack your event and play obnoxious music you don't like, Dolce Entertainment is definitely worth a look.

We hired Jon Muir of Dolce for our wedding in Newport Beach and we were extremely happy with our…read morechoice, as he exceeded our expectations on the big day. The connection process was quite simple, as we filled out electronic forms about us and about our wedding day plans. We sent them over and then met Jon at a Starbucks about a month before our day. Our wedding planner was lagging in getting back to us so we were very thankful for Jon because he essentially set the timeline for our entire wedding ceremony and reception in that initial meeting. He has set playlists if you are not very particular about your music choices, as well as the ability to customize playlists if you know exactly what you want. He helped steer us in the right direction for appropriate playlists for before the ceremony, during the cocktail hour and during the dinner hour. He was also brilliant in adding in some fun extras to keep the guests entertained throughout the night. I'll save the details for him so as not to spoil them! With approximately 15 years (I believe that's what he told us), he definitely knows how to run the party. He is the timekeeper of the flow of the party and he has great instinct with knowing when to play certain types of music to ensure everyone keeps moving and enjoying themselves throughout the night. Our guests are still raving about what a fun party it was and how awesome the dance party was all night. He even stayed later than planned when we decided to extend the party for a little while longer. sidenote: I found out later that the power had gone out during the ceremony (we were married in a backyard at a private residence) but Jon had backup speakers and system in place and nobody ever knew, except for him and the wedding planner. This is also a kudos to him as this was the first wedding at this location, with multiple levels and he did great with the sound system reaching everyone. He definitely knows his business!
