What an incredibly weird experience. Most of the night was a normal night at a bar. At some point, someone decided to sit next to me and try to talk to me. He rubbed his thigh against mine multiple times. So much to where I turned to him to tell him to stop, as the rest of the bar was open for him to sit. He continued to do so. Weird people sometimes crop up at the bar, but to have the bartender Rich defend him after I told him how weird he was being was the real problem. Seems to be a problem for me to tell someone to stop touching me but not the fact that someone continues to do so. read more

I've lived in Carlsbad for about 8 years and never made it to this place right off State St. I've always walked past it and never thought to try it until one day. I went for brunch with 4 other people and the service was just okay. Typical dive bar, nothing fancy but the service was just super slow. Our waiter was really nice, but she took a while to bring out waters and kept forgetting what we what ordered for our drinks. But once we got our food, everything else seemed fine. The burrito was meh. Not much flavor, wouldn't get it again. read more

I hadn't been to this spot in years but my girlfriend told me the food and drinks are great. I ordered the Turkey burger and it was delicious with the frings. Huge portions. The drinks were delicious too, and strong. Not sure why they have low ratings? This place is clean and great customer service. Marie our waitress was fantastic, super friendly and so attentive. Four of us grabbed a tall table in the sun on the side patio at Mas Fina Cantina. Within a few minutes Chris came out to greet us and take our drink orders. Chris was on her first day at Mas Fina, but you'd never know. She was absolutely fantastic. Our drink orders arrived and we ordered food. Man! Everybody's food was outstanding. Posole - my choice. An authentic Mexican soup. Tender pork and white hominy in a delicious broth. Served with cabbage, onions, cilantro & tortillas. A delicious red posole. The broth was loaded with flavors and spicy. The pork was wonderfully tender. Seved with really good corn tortillas. 5-star posole for sure. I ordered the "small" and it was quite large. I was stuffed. Nachos Grande - Becky's order. Beef, beans, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, salsa & jalapeños. She added carne asada. Per Becky who is a nachos aficionado: "Some of the best nachos I've ever had. Perfectly layered, perfect ingredient ratio. Excellent guacamole. The chips were excellent and even the ones on the bottom stayed crispy to the end". Enchilada Plato - our friends split this. Two cheese (their choice) enchiladas with rice and beans. Mas Fina was kind enough to plate each separately. One enchilada and a generous portion of rice and beans on each plate. Hate to write this as we have a chef in our family and while we are not overly fussy this restaurant as a 1st time there....well there won't be a 2nd. Yes busy as it was Mother's Day and felt bad for any wait servers that were not able to be home with their Mom's. But...well, OK, And....there was a curtness and a bit rude when you asked for anything. LIke after 20 minutes shouldn't we have gotten NOT the meal but the chips and salsa. Those are always put out first especially when they are $5, not free. But no the explanation was they will "come out when they come out..." No, those things come out in the first 5 minutes. Standard fare. Food was decent so no real complaints. Prices given these days are also not bad. Busboy was very abrupt and unfriendly even after asking "how are you.." Just a vibe overall that said "Wish you weren't here....." Sorry, but yes your food is decent. But gotta fix the service aspect. Oh, finally the simple meals (sandwiches) were served....like 25 minutes later with a place that was maybe 1/2 full. read more

I have been to Mas Fina several times since moving to Carlsbad last year. I would categorize Mas Fina as a locals dive bar with mediocre food and service. I give the food 3.5 stars and the service 4, BUT, with the "regulars" allowed to be obnoxiously loud and letting the large dogs block walkways, it simply isn't worth spending time there when it is busy. And the only time I want to be at a dive bar is when it is busy. This place could be cool. I have walked in and walked right out more times than I have walked in and stayed. My best experiences have been sitting on the patio in the sun. However, service can be inconsistent outside. I will still stop in time to time, but definitely not a place you can count on for consistent atmosphere or to watch a game with reasonable fanfare. read more

Came here during the art walk event. Nice patio for people watching. Had the breakfast tacos, which the meat seemed under seasoned. However the Poole was excellent! The carnitas taco was crispy and delicious. Ordered a side of the rice which was pretty boring. Also came by on the 4th of July. It was busy but it smelled super dive barish with a ton do drink girls singing at the top of their lungs. The bar seems to always be out of their beers on tap, except for the modelo. Cantinas food is actually so good, their breakfast/brunch is delicious, and I LOVE their burgers. The bartender Sara is always so fun and makes for a great, fun, atmosphere. She has been there for a few years and have had the best experience with her every time. All the bartenders and servers are great! The juke box to play your own songs is also a great vibe. read more

This place has great drinks! Full bar so you can order whatever you would like. Really great and fun atmosphere as well. The food on the other hand is disappointing. My friend has tons of little hairs in his fries. The taquitos taste exactly like frozen taquitos you can get at the store, just gross. The salsa is very bland and has no flavor or spice. Service could be friendlier. We also ordered one drink and the bar tender ended up making us two. Which was great but then we got charged for the second drink that we didn't order. Would never come back here again. Came here on a night out for one drink and our server was extremely rude, we had to leave. Not sure of his name but he was a heavy light skinned individual. We ordered drinks and he checked our ids no problem. He leaves and then comes back to check mine once again (to be fair, my id photo was taken when I was 16, I'm now 22) and asks if I have a card with my name on it, no problem. I proceeded to pull out multiple cards with my full name, as I'm used to this. He then asks if I had a "race change" (his own words) to which I told him thats not something you can ask someone and he proceeded to ask my friend what my race was because I appeared to be Hispanic in person but white on my ID? I'm half white half Mexican for reference. Very distasteful and a bad look. The issue wasn't the additional verification he needed on my ID, it was the nasty comments he made. read more

Lauren was so awesome! We stopped by for drinks and to celebrate with some friends. We ended up ordering a pizza, some wings and fries and thank god we did because it hit the spot. We ended up ordering 4 rounds of Starburst shots and Bacardi /Diet Cokes, Dirty Martini's, and Blueberry Vodka's and Sprites. We had a great time and will be back soon! The door man pocketed my 24 year old daughters ID and refused to return it when she and her friends were trying to enter. The intimidation and fear he put upon them is shameful. We have tried to contact the business via phone and there has been no answer. The door man gave no reason for pocketing her ID and it wasn't until a manager arrived did he return it.
