Birria Taco sub soft corn tortilla
    Kelly R.

We had a delicious lunch yesterday..first time here and we're sorry we waited so long! It was taco Tuesday and hubby had a variety of delicious street tacos and even went for round two. I had a salad with grilled fish and a birria taco. I was hungry..okay? They even give complementary chips and salsa. Everything was plentiful, fresh, and tasty. The restaurant is light, bright, and cozy with indoor or outdoor seating. We will definitely add this to our repertoire.

I had a good time here. The drinks were good and the ambience was lively and fun (we were watching a world cup game). Service was great but I ordered flautas and they were very soggy and not my favorite. I would come back though. Hopefully they were just having an off day.

Was seated outside and found it cold. Seemed like they had heat lamps and it wasn't enough for me but it was survivable. It took a while for the server to get to us and when he did, we ordered drink first. After waiting a while he came back saying that the bar was backed up and apologized for the delay which I appreciated, and he offered to take our food orders. We had already been waiting a while for drinks at this point which wasn't great. Once our drink arrived, the food arrived shortly after. I got the hibiscus mistress but the mezcal which I thought was really delicious. I got a grilled shrimp taco and a carnitas taco. They were both good but weren't anything particularly amazing. I wouldn't say they were super flavorful but they didn't lack in flavor. It was just a middle of the road type of taco. I did really like the salsa that they came with and the portion size was good. Overall, the drink was delicious, the food was okay, but the service slow and not very attentive. I also noticed they mixed up a couple of the drink and food orders and brought us items that were ordered at a different table. I would come here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

It was our first time at Casero Taqueria and we had a great experience. They have a new chef who is super skilled! He was kind enough to make me a vegan ceviche and it was absolutely delicious! My fiancé loved his tacos but he couldn't stop eating my ceviche. That's how good it was! Friendly staff, delicious food and cozy vibes. We'll be back!

For take out from here a few days ago ordering the Chicken Salad. Pretty tasty. You get a lot of food but my only complaint is the chicken was cut into very small pieces making it somewhat difficult to stab and eat. Oh, and they went cheap on the avocado compared to the pic on their website. Still a good salad though. Would like to try one of their burritos next.

Disappointed in how the service has declined. Wait staff didn't even look at us for over 20 minutes.... It wasn't until we were getting ready to leave that we were finally approached. Was sad watching the frustration from other tables as well. But glad we weren't alone in the struggle! Still love the food, but overall dining experience wasn't really worth it. Don't think we will return to a place which was one of our favorite date nights. Bummer.

    Shrimp Ceviche

Visited Casero Taqueria over the weekend. It was such a beautiful day and I was craving ceviche. Casero Taqueria popped up and it looked decent. We were seated promptly and decided since it was a nice day to sit outside. Our server was attentive and super sweet and placed chips and salsa on the table. We decided on the shrimp ceviche for appetizers (very yummy and fresh) then for entrees we had the shrimp taco, Birria taco, Al pastor taco. You can make the tacos a combo with rice and beans but we decided on just the tacos. All the tacos were pretty good. Since it was a nice day, the restaurant seemed pretty empty which was shocking. Our server informed us , with old management, the restaurant was packed each day . However, the new management changed the menu and quality of the food which impacted sales and customers satisfaction. Probably to save money, Now from the sever, they are slowly changing the menu back to the old ways (cmon why change something thats working) Definitely worth a visit. Plus my Michelada was super refreshing!

    Menu of ceviche

The food is always great here but service is so bad! We ordered take out and our ceviche had no chips and our salad had no dressing. When I called to complain they said "sorry about the dressing" and that their ceviche doesn't come with chips if in a pick up order (online menu says served with chips). We left it at the manager would email me to resolve and I never heard back. So disappointed in such bad service from what is supposed to be a nice restaurant. It will be a long time before we come back.

Chile relleno special with rice and beans

Came here during lunch hour on a weekday. There was plenty of seating and got seated right away. The place itself has a great ambiance and calm atmosphere. I ordered the chile relleno plate which was one of the limited time specials. Although it was soaked in a lot of sauce, it was still good and held its texture. I wish the menu had more of a variety. Overall, I think it's a great place to have lunch and socialize!

We went for late lunch for some tacos. Probably because of the weird time, this place was almost empty. Nice outdoor patio, mostly in the shade at that time. This is a really nice restaurant with nice decor and ambiance inside and outside. We had two tacos each for afternoon snacks with no rice and beans. The waiter was nice and attentive. I had chicken and grilled fish. Grilled fish was a bit fishy that I could smell it on the plate. Maybe not next time... Grilled chicken taco was delicious. The tortillas tasted like homemade. Good mixture of chewiness and fluffiness that tastes like comfort. Nice place for an off-time low key outdoor dining for tacos!

The rooftop area isn't very large, but WOW, it's beautiful! You have a view of the beach, umbrellas, little chairs and couches, and just an overall relaxing vibe. It's such a nice place to hang out, enjoy the view, and grab something to eat or drink. We ordered the summer salad and a flatbread, although I can't remember the name of the flatbread. Both were actually very, very tasty! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the food. Everything came out quickly too. The service was also great, both from the person helping us at the bar and the person who brought out our food. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I would definitely come back here to grab a bite, have a drink, and enjoy that beautiful view. Great food, great service, and such a nice rooftop atmosphere. Five stars all the way!

One is a nice, sit-down restaurant. One is a coffee house. The third is the Pocket Pool and Bar. We found the service to be good, but we really didn't enjoy the drinks. The space was rather empty in the middle of a Sunday afternoon. We received coupons good for two welcome beverages at The Pocket when checking in at the resort. When we arrived at The Pocket after checking in but while waiting for our room to be ready, we found ourselves to be the only guests there. No reservations were needed. The clouds were out but it would soon be nice and sunny. We sat down and each ordered a zero proof cocktail. The ask was for something fruity and sweet. We ordered a variation of the Feeling Peachy, consisting of peach puree, citrus, mint, and bubbles. We did choose to give the bartender the freedom to make drinks that would be fruity and sweet as none of the drinks on the menu sounded like what we were feeling for. The bartender brought us drinks that we tried and decided we wouldn't have ordered if we didn't have vouchers for free drinks. As such, we acknowledged they weren't for us, though if we would have paid for them, we would have been disappointed. As such, I'd encourage anyone ordering drinks at The Pocket to stick with drinks on the menu. Speaking of the menu, the menu offers beach bites like smashed guacamole, craklin' buffalo wings, elote fries, quesadilla, sunset ceviche, and dirty nachos. The main event dishes include blackened Baja fish tacos, the wagyu double smash, millionaire's BLT, coastal Cali burrito, and Pacific poke. The balanced-ish menu items include pocket Caesar, the wedge, paradise bowl, and the Santorini. Treat Yourself dishes include cookie sando, assorted fresh fruit, and seasonal sorbet. Beverages include cocktails, wine, drafts, cans, zero proof. The Pocket is a surf-inspired bar with a view. There are televisions to watch sports games, and with the bar being part indoors and part outdoors, you can catch the nice weather or escape from it depending on if it is sunny or rainy. You can make a reservation on OpenTable. The bar hours are open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM. The kitchen is open Monday through Thursday from 12 noon to 6 PM, Friday and Saturday from 12 noon to 7:30 PM, and Sunday from 12 noon to 6 PM. Should we visit the Alila Maria Beach Resort Encinitas again, we may give The Pocket a try again but more for the atmosphere, good service, and perhaps some bites instead of drinks.

She brought it back to the bartender for a lemon drop, that ended up being made sickeningly sweet, like biting into a cinnamon roll!! Can't we just get a normal drink!?
