Not friendly or welcoming. Approached hostess for a table and was told that there was a 2 hour wait although many empty tables inside and outside at patio. We would be seated after the restaurant closed and therefore couldn't even be added to waitlist. How about adding our name should the empty tables (that were visible from hostess stand) not get filled? Seemed like they didn't want or appreciate the patronage. Hard pass. Dini's By The Sea never disappoints. We enjoyed a pitcher of Pacifico while watching one of the most beautiful sunsets on the Carlsbad coast. This restaurant is at a nice location if you are able to get a table where you can watch the sunset. Unfortunately I wasn't seated at that location and it was not time for the sunset. I was there for a late lunch, around 2pm. The table we had was a booth in the back. The space between the table and the seat is quite tight and it was not the most comfortable. Luckily I am not a large person or I would not be able to fit. Although the seating we had was not ideal, we enjoyed the food very much. We ordered the following dishes: Steamer combo with added fettuccine (5/5): it was delicious. A good serving of clams and mussels served in a wine and garlic broth. Cheese and garlic bread comes with the meal. Blacken chicken with pasta (5/5). Also delicious. The pasta is slightly spicy but not too spicy. Just right. We stopped for a lunch by the ocean with our two dogs. They had a patio perfect for us where we could see the ocean. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. For a Sunday brunch, this place was very open with lots of tables, though they had a hard time accommodating our group of 7 without blocking one of their many walkways. Idk ...may be bc they have to work on 7/4 and had other plans in their lives and were now upset they took the short strow ? Other ppl in that place shared the same attitude (not smiling, keeping to themselves). Anyways, the burger was great though no one ever came back or offered anything with it (like ketchup): just dropped the food on the table - eat it ! Yet came back a few times trying to collect the dirty dishes. We've ended up here every time when visiting the area. The view, being right across from the ocean. Back patio has literally the best sunset view in town. Such chill, beachy community energy that it just feels right to be there. Anyway after three wonderful experiences, I decided I should leave a review. I even took photos to share with you all because yes it's that good. Okay so far we've always sat in the back patio and timed dinner with the sunset. Happy hour though is killer and ends at 6pm. So you can make both happen. Literally craved the same things every time, so figured why switch it up now! Ceviche, Clam Chowder, Steamed Bucket which is mussels, clams in this delicious broth with parsley and shallots. Placed underneath the shells is pasta and it comes with delicious garlic bread. My compliments to the kitchen... Then to end it all nice and sweet they have a lovely Crème Brulee... Menu says desserts are made in house. Can't say enough great things about this place and yes I'll continue to dine here, when we're in town. Might even try something new next time but that's just a might. read more

Popped in for a last min dinner on a Sunday night around 7, party of 2.5 While it wasn't crazy busy, it was pleasantly full for a Sunday night in the off season. We were greeted and seated right away and accommodated with a high chair as well. Came in for the clam chowder and some other goodies, perused the menu and the seafood looked delicious but was in the mood for a burger! Snagged a bowl and cup of fresh homemade chowder, it was nice and light, fresh veggies and although the cup was def more a tasting size, next time I'll opt for the bowl. They also offer a bread bowl. Decided on splitting the burger and while everything was fresh, I'll probably skip that next time and try some of the seafood options. The desserts were also made in house and while normally I am not a creme brulee kinda gal this one had strawberries and whipped cream which caught my eye and it did not disappoint! Come to find out when they make it, they boil a huge pot of vanilla and make the kitchen smell wonderful. That comment made me feel warm and cozy on top of the delicious fresh taste the dessert provided. The server was kind and knowledgeable and even welcomed us to the neighborhood! The clam chowder was the only thing we really enjoyed. Unfortunately, the fish was extremely hard and tasted off/fishy/ hard to the point that we were uncomfortable eating it. My husband only took one bite before deciding to order more chowder instead. We barely touched our meals, and later that night he ended up getting sick and was throwing up all night. We've eaten here previously and loved it so much we came back. We were ecstatic to see Dana again. Dini's is still as great as ever. The food and service are always top notch. On this visit, we enjoyed a Baja Fish Taco, a bowl of New England Chowder, some truffle fries and sweet potato fries. Everything was excellent and done to perfection! The fish taco is a meal unto itself with large pieces of cod. Both the truffle fries and sweet potato fries were also done perfectly and absolutely delicious. As usual, Dana was on top of things and did an outstanding job. The dining room at Dini's is really nice with a great ocean view, but we always love the locals vibe in the bar area, which also has an ocean view, and always dine there. If you haven't been to Dini's By The Sea, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

We came here for dinner with a party of 10, and I ordered the Blackened Chicken Pasta. When my food came, the portion was huge! I was craving pasta, and this was the only pasta dish on the menu. You have to walk through the dive area part for the bathroom which is less than ideal for a family dinner not alright for an adult group.
