The food was also delicious. I'm a sucker for fresh cut fries and they did not disappoint at all. I had a foot-long hotdog and it was a great quality beef hotdog... and the roll it was on was delicious, not just a regular hotdog roll. Now for the star of the show and what brought us there (even though it was a two hour ride from Buffalo, NY) was the dill pickle poutine... and it was worth the drive. Something different that was also delicious, two thumbs up. I didn't taste the burger but my daughter said it was delicious also... it was on a nice roll and they even toasted that also. Great job guys, we will be back.

I ordered the tiny sizes, but still, I wish they could just combine the two delicious dishes into one. All my questions were answered at the window (wasn't busy), and the food was hot & ready in moments. The grackles were delighted that I tossed a couple extra fries their way. While this is 'just a food truck', it's also something very special. The area is known for boating and birdwatching, and you really feel like you've arrived at the soul of the place watching over the mini harbor from the two picnic tables. A tiny little spot, but worth stopping.

THE OTHER ONE: In front of Canadian Tire in the parking lot of Festival Marketplace, known by many of the locals as "the new mall" (circa 1990; opposed to "the old mall" which is across the street and was there first. It is about to open a Target as its biggest, flagship retail store, replacing a particularly scuzzy Zellers). And here come the stars: 1. Original food truck. From childhood. In fact, from my Dad's childhood. Since 1953. Still going strong. Booyah! 2. Fresh cut. Need I say more? 3. They come in a paper bag. Old school style. A la ghetto grocery bag: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ma9gp0PKPk1qmildzo1_400.jpg 4. Crispy on the outside, soft and/or soggy on the inside. Perfection! 5. Super salty. LOVE IT! Plus either plain vinegar (for losers) or malt vinegar (for awesome people). They pride themselves as "not needing ketchup" so wait until you're out of their line of vision before you Heinz it up. 6. ****** Extra points! ******* TWO locations. 7. ******* Extra points! ******* Open SEVEN days a week. 8. ******** Extra points! ******** No air conditioning in the trucks! WOW! Clearly a labour of love! And we appreciate it! Do not go here if you are on a diet.

And while they now have a permanent location in the Western Fair Farmers market you can still find them roaming the streets serving up fantastic grilled cheese sandwiches - weather permitting. Their classic grilled cheese - all of them in fact are served with your choice of apple coleslaw (my fave), kettke chips or a shot a tomato dill soup. You can add bacon, upsize your side and they offer daily specials which quite frankly out of this world. They've been roaming the streets for years which is why its quite surprising no one has added them here up until now. A typical week sees them on Tuesday near King & Wellington, Thursdays near Richmond and pall Mall and Fridays - well of course near Queen and Clarence where a number of food trucks always meet for "Food Truck Fridays". Private functions and charity events fill in the remainder of the week nicely. The staff are super friendly and they have this thing where they assign you a celebrity name and then call it out when your order is ready. It normally takes about 5 minutes and a meal for one will cost you right around $10. We're talking fresh grated chesse, thick fresh bread - I go often and will certainly return soon. So, if food trucks are your game and nothing to grilled cheese can hold a flame - have I got a place for you!

Of course, that's a shame, but lets hope that the presence of Ernies leads to more people taking the time to get the permits, figure out the logistics, and take this risk. Located on weekdays during work hours at Perry Square, Ernies is a small, locally-owned food truck that offers up Erie's own Smith hot dogs, Italian sausages, hamburgers, turkey burgers, cheesesteaks, steak wraps, BLTs, pulled pork sandwiches, and more. It's a safe menu, sure, but Ernies makes every meal fresh and made-to-order. This means that it takes a little longer (my Italian sausage with onions and peppers took probably 6-7 minutes), but being so fresh and at an extremely reasonable price of $4, it was well worth the wait - especially considering the guys behind the counter were personable and more than willing to chat with me while they were cooking, as it wasn't too busy. From out of town and need to get a fresh Smith's hot dog (aka the best hot dog on the planet)? Here's your chance. As much as I love Sara's for what it is, I've never liked that their dogs sit on the burners for way too long. Here, you don't have to worry about that. Support these guys. They're local... and if they do well, who knows? We could very well see some more of these pop up downtown (how about an El Canelo taco truck, a place with Lake Erie perch fish tacos, Erie pierogies and pepperoni balls, etc.?).
