As…read morea first-time mom, leaving my baby in someone else's care when I returned to work was extremely hard. Kids Inc. made the transition for both me and my son extremely seamless and easy. Every staff member knows my son by name, not just his classroom teachers. I feel welcome every time I enter the building. I know my son is safe and cared for. Since the center has started going for national accreditation, they have started using an app, Procare, as their main mode of communication. It's so easy!! I have peace of mind knowing my son's teachers are just a text message away and I thoroughly enjoy getting notifications and pictures throughout the day. I love the curriculum the center follows, and my son's language and motor skills have flourished! I am an educator myself and am a huge advocate for early childhood education and intervention. The more exposure to learning children have at a young age, the better! Plus, I love how this center supports teachers. When I am on a break from school, my son stays home with me and the center does not charge us during those weeks. This truly shows me how family-centered this company is and we are grateful. We've always appreciated the care and the relationships built over the years. However, our most recent experience left me deeply disappointed and hurt. My youngest son has special needs and, because of that, he occasionally misses days. Every time we return, we're typically greeted warmly with a "Hi! How are you?" -- but yesterday, that wasn't the case at all. When we walked into his classroom, both teachers looked visibly annoyed. They made eye contact but didn't say a single word. One teacher was sitting at a table (with no children) and the other was by the cubbies, so they weren't preoccupied. I let them know my son was ready for his bottle and mentioned the time of his last diaper change -- no acknowledgment. I repeated myself, and the only response I got was a flat "okay." I also tried to explain the situation with his hand, but again, not a single word or even a nod in response. Feeling completely dismissed, I walked out and went straight to the front desk to express my concerns. I told them that if my son wasn't wanted there, I would gladly take him somewhere he is. The staff member apologized and said she would speak to the teachers, but that doesn't undo how uncomfortable and unwanted we were made to feel. I ultimately decided to remove my son that day and take him to a sitter -- I couldn't leave him in a place where he was clearly not welcomed. What's even more disappointing is that since this happened, I haven't received a single call, text, or apology from anyone at the daycare. After years of trusting them with all three of my boys, this silence speaks volumes. It's truly heartbreaking

My son attended Smarty Pants Preschool in Phoenix, AZ for 6 months (20mon old-26mon old). At the…read moretime Mercedes, the owner, said she had 1 spot available. She was only accepting children that were 1 and walking. Once my son was enrolled, she was caring for 6 full-time toddlers and 6 part-time toddlers which included her own children. You'll see in a photo how attendance was at first. Before we left, she was going to start offering date night services as well. Something that set her apart from the in-home daycare competition was the live streaming cameras available so you can check-in on your little whenever you'd like to. It wasn't a requirement of ours but a plus. Fast forward 6 months and she has 16 full-time children in 1 room (varying ages) and babies that don't walk yet are kept in the kitchen area in bouncers/walkers/etc. One morning my mother was watching her grandson on the video feed, and she told me that 2 children are attacking my son. I texted Mercedes about it, and she said he was okay. She told me my son was instigating fights all morning with the other boys and being defiant with her, so she took him in the kitchen for him to calm down while she cleaned up. She asked what she can do to help with his behavior as well. She didn't provide any "ouch report" or give him ice, no aftercare. I left it at that while I searched the surveillance to see the actual incident for myself. Mind you, this took some time since you're able to search down to the millisecond and the camera's time was incorrect by several hours. My husband left work early to pick our son up from daycare. When my husband arrived, our son started crying hysterically. He was clearly stressed out and wanted to leave the place after what occurred. While I'm searching through the video feed from that morning, I didn't see any instigating from my son to warrant the treatment or lack of supervision received. I saw an instance that same day where my son is being choked by another child in the corner while Mercedes was in the room as well. Another child who appeared to be at least 6 years old stepped in to stop the boy from choking my son. When I found the incident my mother was talking about, I gave Mercedes notice immediately that he wasn't returning. In the video my son is minding his own. Then 2 older boys were literally attacking him. Choking him, pulling his hair, jumping on his legs, punching him in the face. I wish I was exaggerating. It's footage is hard to watch. My son was screaming and crying at the time as well. I sent the video to Mercedes via email, business phone, and personal phone along with our notice. She apologized that it happened and explained that she was answering the door at the time. She also mentioned that those 2 boys have medically diagnosed behavioral conditions. For context, I don't believe the boys are from the same household since my husband recognized 1 of them from pickup/drop off. This is probably not the first occurrence of these children attacking others. Mercedes cannot provide the proper care for those children with special needs plus 14+ others. She does have a part-time helper for the infants, she's not there every day though. Smarty Pants Preschool's tuition was slightly below market, so this is one of those "you get what you pay for" situations unfortunately. In 6 months my son did maybe 2 arts and crafts projects? And that's me just giving her the benefit of the doubt. We never actually saw any projects completed by him and none were brought home. The cameras weren't working on a consistent basis, especially the one in the kitchen. The tv was on all day, every day, not just Friday for movie day. This is not a licensed facility. Thankfully I was able to enroll my son immediately at another in-home preschool that we were also interested in before. It's about the same distance from our home in Tempe. Our son hasn't had any issues with "instigating" anything. He's been thriving and learning in a supportive and positive environment. When I was researching different daycares and preschools for my son to attend, Smarty Pants Preschool wasn't open for a year yet so the information I did find was minimal, but positive. Hopefully this will help other parents who are looking for care.

Raised the yearly fee for a child from $100 per child to $200 per child. Not a new registration either so they dont have to do anything but collect $200 per kid. Money grab for sure. There are much better options available now. This was in Mesa Az. Not California. Follow-up- Company reached out, however like most large corporations they don't care about the initial complaint. Raising the rate is the price of doing business with large companies. Money is all that matters. Maybe drive a little further to teach these companies we wont tolerate price gouging.
