Who gets pizza at an Indian joint? We do! A group of friends and I went to Masala House in East Greenbush to try their Indian fusion pizzas. We ordered a few of their appetizers which were all great - the samosas were pretty heavy on the nutmeg and cinnamon though. Then we went on to order three of their pizzas which were well executed and tasty! They weren't over powering with Indian spice but were just enough. The crust was naan dough and were crispy and tasty. In our approximately 2 hours stay, we were the only guests in the restaurant. There was some pick up orders coming through but no one dining in. For us being the only ones there, our service was extremely lack luster. The waiter taking our orders was awkward, they told us not to order one of the pizzas because it gets soggy, then the food took a very long time to come out. Between the apps and the pizza we all felt it was taking a while. But, all in all, it was a decent meal. It's a good place for some indian if you're in the area! I bet their traditional entrees are great!

Indian restaurant with good flavors and lots of options on the menu for decent prices. I ordered the bone-in tandoori chicken and was definitely full and satisfied afterwards.

Little bit of everything at lunch buffet

Lunch buffet. Very clean. Friendly service. The food was awesome! I tried all the flavors and they were good:) some were spicy and some were not. I wish there were more variety of meat. It was all chicken. The server brought the fresh baked naan to our table. It was good:) I will definitely go back again.

Service: 5 Food: 4 Atmosphere: 4 I visited for the buffet on a weekday for lunch and the food was hot, tasted good, and there was plenty of options. The buffet items were refilled promptly. Some places, you get little to no service when you select the buffet and I'm pleased to report this was just the opposite. We were checked on and cared for many times, but not bothered too much. The used plates & bowls were promptly removed and the unused silverware and dishes were very clean. I recommend and will return!

Chicken tikka, vegetable samosa

I came here to improve my rating from 3 to 4 stars because the problems mentioned previously seem to have been addressed. The overall management seems to have only gotten better in the last few months and given this was under pandemic restrictions, this is huge. Yay, Masala House! As for food, 5 stars. They have an array of complex flavors, a fairly extensive menu, including a few items somewhat unique to other Indian restaurants in the area (pizza?!). We love the paneer dishes, chicken tikka, the veg samosas. They are great at altering spice/heat level to your taste. Pricing since their increase at the beginning of the year still feels too high for takeout. No one lowers prices though, so improvements like paper cartons (like the ones Maharaja in Colonie uses) rather than plastic and styrofoam would be great as would a takeout menu with descriptions of the items. Masala House has been a wonderful go-to for us during this lockdown. I'm grateful!

This place is A-Ok. I went for the lunch buffet and was pleasantly surprised at all the new-to-me options available. I've made chana bhindi (fried okra in Indian spices) at home but I've never seen it in an buffet before. Also chana masala (chickpeas) were offered! There was no butter chicken so I didn't know if that was my timing or if it isn't in their buffet line-up. Finally, there was tikka masala chicken and two kinds of dal. A whole vat of mint sauce. And tandoori chicken! So there were lots of old favorites served in a new way, plus new foods to try. All of the food was delicious and I went back for seconds. I finally ordered some chai ($3) and there were two versions so I went with masala chai. It was very creamy and spicy, so I was very pleased. The one thing that I couldn't shake is the overwhelming lack of spice and a startling sweetness in all the food. I looked at the menu and it said there were Bangladeshi foods as well as Indian and Pakistani foods, so I wondered if that is where the sweetness was coming from, since I don't know that cuisine. Masala House is a great addition to East Greenbush and I will keep in mind their buffet for a quick bite.

I always complain about the lack of restaurants in the East Greenbush area, so I was excited when this place opened up recently right in the center of everything. I haven't been able to dine in yet, but recently got some takeout that was great. I'm hoping for an in person visit soon to check out the decor (maybe for the buffet) and potentially bump them up to that last star. The chicken karahi is excellent - really one of my favorite Indian meals I've had in a while. The sauce was a perfect rich thickness, and the spices were deep and interesting. The chicken was nice tender white meat chunks, and there was a good amount of it along with peppers and onions. I do wish the dish was a tiny bit spicier. The vegetable samosa appetizer was also great. The shell had a nice flavor and consistency without being overly fried and greasy like some are. The filling was packed with vegetables. I was pleasantly surprised by how great everything was!

Lamb Biryani

First time being here and it's great! We went on a Tuesday night so it's fairly quiet. We had lamb curry and lamb biryani. Didn't get a chance to take a before photo other than the one I'm taking to go. But it's overall great!!!

When this place first opened, I was thrilled. I love Indian, and it's local. We went here a few times and we liked it. A couple of weeks ago, after learning that the lunch buffet was back open, we returned. Initially, I was surprised that the service was so shoddy. They used to be so attentive, but this time, we were hardly given the time of day. We were told to "seat ourselves", but none of the tables were cleaned off. We asked to have one cleaned. I think the guy was surprised that he was being asked to work. Then we got to the buffet. It was late (after 1:30) so I knew we might miss out off some stuff, but it was practically empty, and what was there had clearly been sitting around for a while. Whatever. It's still Indian, right? Except not right. Once we sat down, I started to really notice how filthy the place was. Honestly, I cannot think too hard about the fact that I actually ate anything there because it will make me nauseous. We wound up leaving very quickly. My husband said the men's room was also disgusting. Unless you have an iron stomach and are willing to turn a blind eye, you should stay far far away.

Finally East Greenbush has an Indian Restaurant in town. It used to be an IHOP so the restaurant is very spacious with plenty of seating. It is clean and well decorated in the Indian fashion. I was there around 6 o'clock and there weren't any dinners but plenty of people coming through for take out. I ordered the chicken korma with naan bread. It was an excellent choice as this dish was favorfull but not spicy. The service was great as my server was friendly. I will definitely come back.

We came for the buffet and were seated at a table with a white paper table cloth that Harrison could draw on. As low budget as it gets. Our table rocked back and forth and the ambiance was lacking. It seems to be a work in progress. However, a nice epoxy-pour bar (complete with boats and fish and shells) was in one area and two large televisions were high up on the walls. The food was good and there were lots of dishes I didn't recognize, which I interpret to mean they have a lot of "non-standard" recipes on their buffet. Some might call that "authentic". It was a Saturday and they have a lunch buffet every day, though the weekday buffet might be smaller. In sum, it was $18 about 20-30 different items including multiple sauces and garnishes. Chicken, goat, fish... all were represented. I missed some of the regular items I see elsewhere but I can't exactly put my finger on what I wanted. It was a bit spicy which I appreciated, though my wife didn't. Fresh naan was brought to our table. We were never asked what we wanted to drink but cold water was brought and that was sufficient. Of note: there was no fruit on the buffet, and very few raw vegetables. I had hoped they would have had oranges or mangoes or something (for our toddler) but nope. Nor did the attached grocery store stock any fruit either. Huh? That was disappointing. It wasn't cheap, it felt like eating in a run-down garage, and it was very quiet as there was no background music at all. Not a great location to bring a date. But, we did talk to the owner on the way out and he was very kind. I hope to come back in half a year and see how it has improved. I wish them well.

They told me other people took priority because they made a reservation earlier, not because the reservation time was different. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! They knew we wouldn't have anywhere else to go and TOOK ADVANTAGE. Gotta say though, food was excellent.. drinks as well, which is why I gave 5 stars for food. But the service was so abysmal, it ruined the experience completely. I would have left and gone home, but I was on vacation and staying at a hotel. The man that was managing the front of the restaurant did offer 20% off and gave my kids free mango lassies although he definitely was more annoyed at us than appoligetic. He even accused us of arriving later than when we arrived. (The waitstaff did apologize even though it was not their fault). This was the first time in my life, I have ever left less than a 15% tip in the US. I was originally going to leave nothing, but I felt bad for the waiters that did nothing wrong. The restaurant is just very mismanaged.

The man who served us was attentive and wanted to give us a great experience as we were the only table seated in the restaurant on a Saturday evening. Wish we got some photos on this visit, but we will be back to enjoy the food again. They have an extensive menu where you can have various spice levels and a lot of different curry types. Drinks are in cans and bottles, so if you're a fountain drink feen, this may be a bit challenging for you. As for ambiance, there was only one thing that I would wish for and that is music. There was none playing in the restaurant, Their desserts included homemade baklava that had the perfect mix of honey, nuts and spice. One person in our party got a wrap and they are huge. They are made with naan bread and had a traditional style of fillings. It was warm, but she did have a bit of difficulty eating it as it was packed full of meat! (I would love this anyway) Our bill for 4 people was $100 and we had leftovers for two days. Next visit, I'm going to try their Biryani and will post photos next time!

Reviewing this spot again after nearly 4 years!…read more In my eyes, this spot has withstood the test of time. Maharaja still holds a dear place in my heart. The food is always exactly what I'm hoping for, and the service is always quick. I don't have to wait very long to get my food, and I always leave happy. My go-to is the Chicken Vindaloo. I have a pretty solid heat tolerance, and I don't recommend this to anyone that can't handle a bit of heat... I sometimes find myself sweating after this dish, but it is so worth it. My wife orders the Chicken Tikka Masala and it's also very delicious. I've tried a few chicken tikka masala dishes in the area (by extension of my wife) and this is my favorite. The sauce is a rich, buttery sauce that tastes amazing, and the chicken is always so tender. We share a helping of rice for the chicken tikka masala and vindaloo. It is plenty of food and we typically leave with leftovers (which reheat nicely). I do also love the copper-wear. Some of the appliances are getting a bit dented, and unfortunately the window in the front is cracked and I notice these small things, but the food is good enough for me to look past that.

During my visit, I ordered the classic yellow dal tadka and Kashmiri dum aloo and both exceeded my expectations. The dal tadka was comforting and beautifully prepared, with the perfect consistency and a well-balanced tempering that enhanced the natural flavor of the lentils without overpowering them. It had that unmistakable homemade, authentic Indian taste that is surprisingly hard to find. The Kashmiri dum aloo was outstanding. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, absorbing the rich, aromatic gravy infused with traditional spices. The depth of flavor, subtle heat, and creamy texture were exactly how this dish should be prepared. Honestly, I haven't tasted such an authentic and well-executed Kashmiri dum aloo anywhere in America. Ambience was very nice and service was exceptional too. If you are looking for genuine Indian flavors prepared with care and authenticity, I highly recommend this restaurant. It delivers both quality and taste in every bite.

Normally I pass on rice except as a vehicle for sauce, but I finished this. The sauce had a reasonably deep red color and an enjoyable spicy flavor, maybe a little less tomato flavor than I've had elsewhere, but still quite good. Naan, wrapped in foil, is fresh and hot, but not necessarily crisp. Flavored naans will have the flavors as a stuffing. My mango lassi was excellent - I almost wanted to steal a larger milkshake cup from nearby Herbie's and ask for that to be filled up instead. All in all, if you are looking for an Indian meal while at Galleria 7, you will be very satisfied here.
