Masala makes the best bindi masala and palak paneer I've ever had. Ever. Many other things are good but these dishes are standouts. We get takeout here nearly every week. Like, if we move away from Lexington this will be the thing I most miss along with Girls!Girls!Girls! Burrito. First time trying Masala & ordered takeout due to the restrictions on indoor dining. I'm pretty basic when it comes to Indian food, so stuck with my usual Tikka Masala & garlic naan. Also added an order of the Samosas to try something new to me! The tikka Masala was just the right amount of spice, full of white meat chicken & delicious! The staff working there was very friendly & all proper COVID protocols were being followed when I picked up our food. This was our second visit for dinner; this time we arrived near evening opening time of 5 pm; by 6 pm tables were full and carry out was in full swing. No surprise, as the food, service and price is excellent. Ambiance is simple, enhanced by tablecloths, cloth napkins, nice plates and silverware, plus a hand-painted landscape mural on one wall. Staff is friendly and efficient, and obviously enjoy serving their unique food. Dining at Masala is a treat because the flavors are so different and tasty, a break from the usual American fare, and the servings are large enough to share tastes and still have some to take home. There were many veggie options; an important factor for us. And another big plus: even when the restaurant was busy, we could carry on a normal conversation; the ambient noise level was that quiet. As a long time fan of Masala, they kinda dropped the ball tonight. First off, it took well over half an hour for our table of three to get our food. When we asked about it, we were told they only had one cook for the night. Problem is, we saw a constant wave of carry-out orders being fulfilled while we sat there waiting. So finally, we get our food. I ordered the Chicken Makhani, or the butter chicken. I was *pleased* to find that it was just a horrible field of landmines of chicken bones. I found *six* bone fragments in my butter chicken. I literally had to carefully inspect each bite to make sure I wasn't about to break a tooth. I've had that same dish plenty in the past with no problems, so I can only assume quality control has gone down the toilet here. I totally understand that COVID took a toll on restaurants, but this is a bit unacceptable. Serve your indoor diners timely, and maybe serve them food without a ton of bones in it. That doesn't seem like too much to ask. read more

I recently tried the lunch buffet at Masala and I was impressed with the whole experience - good service, nice variety of food on the buffet, a huge lunch for $8.99. I will definitely be back. I rarely ever go to Indian restaurants for the Regular menu so i can't speak for that but I will say I saw someone else's table with an entree and it looked like mostly rice. I have never been here in person but I've ordered from them many times and everything I have gotten has been excellent! I am a pescatarian that does not eat dairy, or a vegan who eats fish so take your pick of what to call me Anyway, my favorite is the Chana Saag-I order mine medium and it is definitely spicy enough for me, but if you like yours hot, order up a spice level or 2. There is a mild option for all of their food as well if you don't like it hot another favorite of mine is the vegetable Pakora (order the mint chutney sauce - it is delicious paired with it). The garlic Naan is also very yummy . All in all, I can recommend this highly read more

Be careful parking,as there is not enough parking for all the businesses in this strip mall and the parking spaces are very narrow, (even the handicapped space). Masala is my go to Indian place. Love the naan, tikka and all other dishes I have tried. I will say, though, that sometimes they can be a bit inconsistent. Well that was disappointing. Masala used to be one of my favorite restaurants, about 10 years ago. Then the quality went down and we stopped going because we found another more reliable place to get Indian. I was looking at yelp for somewhere near my house that I hadn't been to in a while and it popped up with good reviews. I was excited that maybe it would make it back into the rotation again? When we arrived they were reasonably busy, but they quickly became overwhelmed. Our order was wrong and basically inedible because it was so spicy, even though I ordered mild. I eat Indian food regularly at a variety of places both mild and sometimes medium, and this was not even medium. My husband who enjoys a light sweat while eating Indian could not even handle it. I could have complained and maybe received another dish, but no one came back to our table. I couldn't get anyones attention. Not even to refill our drinks because we were dying from spice, until we waved someone down. Then, finally the waitress still didn't even ask about our food, which was barely eaten when she tried to dump water into our soda glasses, without even asking us to give us rushed refills. They were busy, but still kept seating people. The waitress then returned and dumped to go boxes on our table, again with no questions, and never returned to give us a check. Then we finally went up to pay, which we still took forever. I have really never received so little attention at a restaurant. So now I'm sitting here feeling sick from indigestion from trying to eat even a few bites of my meal, feeling disappointed because my dinner out that I was looking forward to was a total waste. I guess now I remember why I stopped going to Masala even though Indian food is probably my favorite type of food, and it's the closest Indian restaurant to my house. read more

I've been in Lexington for two and a half months and I've ordered from Masala almost once a week. This is the first time I've been sad to leave a place because of a restaurant. I would eat from here exclusively if I could! Make me a millionaire and I'll ship food from here to California daily! This is some of the best food I've had outside of India. It's been a while since I've been here and I must say I'm glad I stopped by. This place is pretty busy for lunch buffet! I was pretty excited that they had 2 of my favorite buffet items (spinach and paneer and the kheer) and I loved it! The paneer was silky and firm and the flavor of the spinach was delicious with a little hint of spice. It's great with Naan bread. The Kheer is a warm, sweet dessert with vermicelli noodles, almonds and cardamom spice. I.LOVE.IT and it had been a while since I've eaten it. My overall experience here was good and I will be back. The only thing that I noticed was that the buffet area is quite small, but, in their defense, the restaurant is small; not much room. As I said above, they are pretty busy and so the buffet area was crowded with patrons waiting to eat their delicious food. This is the Original Masala in the Beaumont Centre. There have already been several glowing reviews, and some backstory dished out by some previous reviewers, so I will just leave my review to contributing different information. This Masala (compared to her sister restaurant off Nicholasville road) is much more casual in atmosphere, even bearing in mind cloth napkins and tablecloths. Masala has about a dozen authentic Indian beers, half dozen other imports, and about a half dozen domestic beers. Try one of the Indian beers called "Sunny Beaches" it is an amazing accompaniment to the food!! The lunch buffet is also very good (perhaps one of the only buffets I will eat-- buffets generally suck!) and changed out very frequently, kept very hot. Love Masala!! read more

My go-to Indian restaurant in Lexington. Their lamb rogan josh is great and the staff are all friendly and accommodating.

This is our "go to" when we want to treat guests from out of town. Food is great. Staff is friendly. No complaints here.

Holy Cow!!! This place is an amazing gem. The food was wonderfully spiced and the rice was nice and fragrant. I had the Tikka masala chicken and the spouse had the Tikka masala lamh. Both were very tasty and well cooked. The lamb was nice and tender. The next table has the seekh kebab and it smelled to tantalizing! The service was a little slow, but that's to be expected with covid. When we come back to Lexington, it will be a first stop! read more
