We were vacationing in Venice and needed an oil change. I got a recommendation from an acquaintance to use Masella's. I made an appointment to have the oil changed at 1:00 on a Friday and it went really well. The service writer was very helpful and courteous. It took about 45 minutes and the cost was reasonable. No upsell, no delay, just quick service. I overhear several phone calls with customers while I was waiting that sounded very professional and honest. The waiting room was the cleanest that I have ever experienced in a small shop like this. They had water and seltzer in a mini fridge. They also had a Kurig for coffee. Dealing with auto repairs can be a nightmare. Before all the counters in cars I used to do many repairs myself, it now I would attempt it. I've had vehicles repaired for one thing or another three different times at Masella,s and have been satisfied each time. Two of those times I had much higher quotes from other repair shops. Venice Honda gave me estimate of $4,800 to replace oxygen sensor, both valves and gaskets, $1050 for oxygen sensor. Masella's automotive replace sensor for $342 and said my 2007 Honda Pilot didn't need valve or gasket replacements, since car with many miles always has some valve/gasket issues but not needing replacement, so I saved almost $4,300 Kudos to Masella's and totally distrust in Honda for trying to take advantage of a situation that wasn't necessary read more

Having spent large amounts over the last 7 years, I was recently disappointed and will not be returning. Simple oil change for one make of car is one price and then certain imports, require a doubling of price. Synthetic oils compared to other synthetic oils apparently cost higher amounts and European labor rates must be higher than Korean, Mexican and US based repair labor rates. Why? Most important is that one of the other reasons car was in shop was not 1) Addressed, 2) reviewed at time of payment, or 3) offered suggestion for next steps to order part or how to address. Something has changed here and it appears to have volume focus and less on quality and reasonableness. read more

A friend recommended Masella's Auto Repair and they really got it right. We have a 2007 Jeep Liberty that has an oil leak. It's been that way a while, but I'd done some research and knew that changing the oil pan gasket was a major job on this vehicle and wasn't going to be cheap, plus it was time for it's 120K mile maintenance, which was going to cost several hundred dollars. Anyway, I took it Masella's and asked for them to check it out. He called later in the day and told me he could change the oil pan gasket... but, he recommended I NOT get it done. He said oil was leaking from a couple of places and that it also has a coolant leak. He said that he could certainly do the work to fix those things, but he felt like the Jeep had reached its end of life unless I wanted to invest a LOT of money in it. He recommended I not get the work done and spend the money on a replacement vehicle. The fact that he could have done the work and charged me accordingly, but didn't because he didn't feel like it was in my best interest is really commendable. Took my classic 1969 Chevy El Camino in for a few basic services: Transmission cooler hose/clamps/fluid replacements, new battery, oil change and power steering pump replacement. Found a roofing nail in my tire this morning. After going to the manufacture dealership they indicated it could not be plugged due to location. Not what I wanted to hear on a brand new 2023 car! Got a quote for a new tire installed. Decided to take to another location for 2nd opinion. Based on reviews I chose Masella's. Fortunately they were able to fit us in immediately! They too agreed we needed a new tire. However they agreed to patch it so we could use it as the tire was leaking. Cost for new tire with installation was $75 less then manufacturer dealership. In full disclosure, I worked in the car business for almost 50 years - as a technician, foreman, service manager, independent repair shop owner, and as a manager for a luxury vehicle manufacturer. I've seen the good, the bad, and the simply awful. So to say I'm particular, is an understatement. With the virus outbreak, I have been staying in Nokomis much longer than planned (tough duty, I know!). I don't have any tools here so when my truck's power door locks stopped working, I decided to find a repair shop. After doing some research on line to find a local repair shop, I chose Masella's. From the way they answer the phone, book appointments, keep their customers informed and the actual repair, I can enthusiastically recommend this local business. As it turned out, the problem with my 16 year old F250 originated as a water leak over the driver's door. From that leak, water got into the fuse block and the resulting corrosion stopped the door locks. Mike at Masella's called and gave me two options: replace the fuse and hope for the best or, replace the fuse block - and of course, fix the water leak. I chose the more expensive option because I need to rely on this old truck and who knows what other problems I could have in the future - water and electricity are rarely a good combination. Had some work done on my car in Venice,fl ,and had trouble after I left.I brought the car back ,and they said there's no trouble.The problem was after I had the front tires replaced I had a vibrating feeling in the steering about ever 45 seconds.Tried another place they did a test drive for 5 minutes,and then put it up on the lift and found out the front struts were bad .They replaced them and the problem was gone!!They are very friendly to deal with. read more

I brought my 2008 Cadillac in for repairs earlier this week. The original diagnosis was to replace my rear shocks which would have cost about $500 which I wasn't thrilled about. Mid morning after I left it off I got a call, on the golf course, saying they had good news...the shocks were ok, the problem was a loose bolt connection. My playing partners all had the same reaction..they were impressed. They could very easily have replaced the shocks and not said anything about the real issue. I am very impressed with this business. They are highly reviewed here so I called on the off chance I could get an appointment in a reasonable time. The initial phone contact was excellent. I got an appointment almost immediately. Amazing. They were not worried about the slightly different nature of my vehicle. On the day of my appointment I watched as a very busy shop worked smoothly and cheerfully through the logistical problems of the day. Jim diagnosed my a/c issue personally and gave me a reasonable estimate and time frame. During the repair he discovered the compressor was not the original. No worries. He found a different part, made the repair, called me sooner than I expected and told me what happened.... and that it was less than agreed upon. I was impressed. Jim was like.. just another day. I had used Masella's for a couple of years and was satisfied. There was a younger guy as a job writer who was friendly, helpful and honest. So I don't write this negative review happily. I would rather still be going to this shop. However, a couple of months back, the older guy who writes up orders told me I needed upper/lower ball joints and tie rods replaced. I thought this odd as just two months earlier they had checked both sides and said they were fine. The older guy's estimate was $1980+ ($470 parts and $1210 labor. when I asked how long the work would take, he said they need it for the day it was 6 hours of labor. (Hmmm $200 an hour). So I decided to get a second opinion from a very trusted local mechanic, a chain repair shop and a dealer. I did not mention Massela's diagnosis, just thought I heard a noise from the front. None of them said I needed ball joints or tie rods. I even asked to make sure they looked and all three said they were fine. My experience. read more

I had been a fair client of tire choice in Venice for 6 years my car had a issue and I took it to them to have it checked out. I got a call the next day that I needed a new throttlebody and was told it would cost me $800. I was in shock that it would cost that much so a friend of mine referred me to Masella's . I took the quoteover to their office and they wooed me Winston an hour to tell me the cost was $289.00 was in shock but very happy. I recommend this business and will refer my client to them everyday. Very honest family business. I do all my auto repairs with Masella's from now on. I give them 10 stars. read more
