I'm so bummed that I forgot to take pictures, but my experience here was phenomenal. My friend and I were in the area to pick up a piece of furniture, and decided to stop in for lunch - what a hidden gem! We tried the BBQ Pork Noodles and the Spicy Miso Ramen. Both were hot, flavorful and just downright delicious. Our server was friendly and fast, and the owner seemed like a really nice guy as well. I REALLY was excited to try after having some incredible and very authentic ramen in Princeton. What we got was relatively bland, greasy and the noodles were all stuck together. We DID order delivery so if you "dine in", I'm sure to his wouldn't be an issue. We had four in our party and one couldn't even eat their meal and the rest of us suffered through it. After reading the reviews, I was very hopeful. We had the Shoyu x2, Tantanmen & Mayu ramen. The Gyoza was good though (thank goodness)!! Sadly, we won't be dining here again. We've eaten at a multitude of ramen places through the years and we'll continue to wait for a great one in Cville. In the interim, we'll have to keep going to Takara or Tenka in Richmond. read more

Two stars since pick-up was seamless in these COVID times. One star for the food. We ordered two of the creamy vegetable ramen and one oishi tofu. The ramen broth and toppings were weirdly sweet. So sweet, they were impossible to eat. The broth for the oishi tofu was also sweet and smelled like maple syrup. I went to the pantry to try some other food, just to see that nothing was wrong with my taste buds! When I called to ask about it, the first person said it was supposed to be sweet, so there was nothing they could do. The second person said it wasn't sweet and they did not put any sugar in it, so there was nothing they could do. I asked for a refund because it was truly inedible (the first time I have ever asked a restaurant) and I am waiting to hear back if my refund is approved. Tl;dr -- save your money if you're looking for savory ramen...so basically typical ramen. Plus, vegetables were weirdly chewy and the noodles stuck together. read more

Super cute spot! As the weather is getting cooler, Mashumen will definitely hit the spot! I got the Creamy Vegetarian Ramen, the broth did need a little something so I added the chili oil that is provided at the table! Next time i'll definitely try the other Vegetarian Ramen since it's a different broth! My boyfriend got the spicy miso ramen and his was so good! The waiter was rude throughout dinner. I have a food allergy, so I asked the waiter what oil fried food was prepared in. He kept saying he did not know and refused to ask the chief. Because of this I was limited in what I wanted to order to avoid getting sick. Also he rushed us out bringing us the check ~10 minutes into eating. The restaurant robbed everyone in the party by adding money to the bill after we signed. My total on the merchant receipt that I signed was for ~$14. When I checked my credit card statement a few days later the restaurant charged $20. This also happened with the rest of the people who ate with me that night. Was on my way to another restaurant when I caught the new sign on the side of the road. Unfortunately they don't have any outdoor seating and I wasn't really up for sitting inside so I opted for the soupless bbq pork noodles to go. Upon opening the take out container my first impression was very good. Presentation was nice, quantity was good, vegetables looked fresh, soft boiled egg was perfect consistency, and the smell was delicious. Flavor for the meal was good but it seemed like the egg and the meat were probably already precooked and just reheated. The egg was still a little cold and the meat had gotten a little tough but overall still good flavors. Hopefully they get some outdoor seating or this covid goes away soon. I'm looking forward to trying the ramen and seeing how it stacks up with what I used to get in manhattan. read more

The sushi is awesome and the way it's displayed is gorgeous but it ends there. The ramen isn't very good-it's bland and uninspired, the service is lacking and takes forever, the vibe feels like a take out place and less of a sit down restaurant despite the cool paintings on the wall, the lights are super bright, I actually had a spotlight aimed right at my face. The waitress got my husbands rolls wrong and when we explained that they were incorrect, an older woman with glasses all of the sudden brought our next items and she wasn't very friendly at all. This place has great potential especially with such an amazing sushi chef but after two visits we are done. The price point is too high to feel like we are an inconvenience from start to finish. Also what's up with the extra credit card fee? And as a side note it's super awkward when the waitress brings the check on her iPad and you have to tip while she's holding it staring at you. read more

Delicious ramen! The perfect treat for a rainy evening. I ordered takeout from Mashumen and had a horrific experience with Doordash, but that's no reflection of the restaurant. My order was packed with care and the broth was kept separate from the noodles, egg, and pork--which was so nice because even though I got my food so late, it was still fresh and yummy. Agedashi tofu is one of my favorite foods, so I was excited to see it on their menu. Mashumen's agedashi tofu did not disappoint! I can't wait to order again--this time I will just pick it up myself though. read more

Highly recommend everything we tried: vegetarian gyoza (dumplings), tofu chashu buns (sliced and marinated tofu which could easily pass for pork if that's your thing) in folded buns, mayu ramen and bbq pork noodles (no broth). The ajitama (eggs) were amazing. My only suggestion would be to give more info on the menu to define ingredients for people who aren't familiar with their dishes. Our only complaint...hence the 4 stars...was that when our credit card statement came, they added to their tip an extra $5.00 giving themselves a 30% tip. Best ramen I had in C'ville, I had the Tonkotsu ramen and Oichi Tufo, they are great. One minor thing, the soup is too little, you need to pay for extra soup. read more

This is a lovely addition to this part of JPA/Fry Springs. I had their tonkatsu ramen and their chashu buns and both were delicious! Broth was flavorful, the cuts of chashu were tender and tasty, and the noodles were great as well. I got takeout but from my brief time inside, the decor was really nice and comfy. This spot offers in dining and to go options. This ramen shop is a rare find, with authentic Japanese ramen that is fulfilling and satisfactory. WIth Mashumen being a local, family restaurant, they use local authentic food vendors with many options for vegetarians, even a creamy vegetarian ramen. Will definitely be coming back soon! read more
