Gotta hand it to them honestly, I've eaten here so many times and it's always good. I was a frequent visitor in 2018-19 when I worked on barracks, and the consistency here is insane. I've gotten food from here occasionally since then, and every single time it's been super fresh and delicious. The smoked eel is my fav protein and I love the creative bowl options and the build your own (my go to). I've never caught them on a bad day! This is the best poke in Charlottesville! I order from here at least once a week to get my comfort poke and it's consistently delicious. Everything is customizable and there are many different options. This is the only poke place I can find that lets you put mango in your bowl. When I request mango at other restaurants, they act like it's blasphemy. The location itself is small but cute and the service is always super fast. read more

Located in the heart of Barracks Shopping Center, Poke Sushi Bowl Barracks is located across other popular food joints like Five Guys and Panera. Unlike these places though, Poke Sushi Bowl definitely is easier to go to for health conscious dieters. Poke Bowl's options include a wide variety of bowls with or without rice and you choice of toppings: tuna, salmon, crab. There are also additional topping options like avocado, ginger macadamia, nuts, and other healthy ingredients. However, besides bowls, Poke also offers ramen and soba both of which were highly recommended to me. For me, though, the reason I like Poke so much is I know what I am eating when I order: the ingredients are all natural and the sauces list ingredients. This is a must have for any Keto dieter! Salty sauce and overly hearty (or undercooked?) rice spoiled what could've been a really good experience here. I remember a great poke roll (yes, you could turn any bowl into a burrito-style poke roll!) from NoVa, so my expectations were high. If you're familiar with any 'build your own' type of meals, you'll get the hang of it in no time. Moving from one end of the line to the other, you pick the base (brown rice or white sushi rice/greens), then your choice of two protein, then pick from more than a dozen different toppings. They'll ask you to pick a sauce at some point, too. This is a fast casual restaurant and the decor is minimal and there's lots of seating unlike the other location on 14th, and service was fine. What was not fine was the saltiness of shoyu sauce and how tough the rice was. I eventually asked for some rice to offset the saltiness, and while the staff was very helpful, I discovered that both brown and white rice had the same issue. I stopped here for a weekend dinner after trying another night and they had closed early. I like poke, but there are not many places at home that specialize in it. The menu is really good and lays out "standard" bowls and you can also customize them. The girls at the counter were very friendly, but I wish they had helped me through the process by explaining what choices I had for add-ons and toppings. I wasn't familiar with some of them and they just wanted to finish the bowl (even though there was no one else waiting). The bowl itself was really tasty, and a good size for dinner. This was our first time at this location (which is MUCH more convenient for those of us who don't live on the UVA campus). For those who are unfamiliar with poke bowls they are basically like chipotle with sushi ingredients. You can pick from several bases: sushi rice (classic!), brown rice, greens, or soba noodles (a japanese buckwheat noodle that is often served chilled - super refreshing on hot days). Then you can add a few proteins and unlimited toppings. Everything was very fresh and tasty. We especially liked that you could get their many sauces on the side and thereby sample the different flavors - all of which complimented the bowls nicely! We went this past weekend with phase 2 reopening. The store wasn't crowded, everything was very hygienic, and the employees were super nice! We will definitely be back. :) read more

I like the variety of toppings and ingredients you're able to choose and I'm pretty sure it's as many as you would like except you can pick up to two for protein. Before tip, $17+ for a volcano bowl yielded a feeling of disappointment as soon as I saw it. Putting the fish on the scale with the mayo still on it, it weighed in at a pithy 3oz with a whole pound of rice underneath it. Seared tuna was fine, but the yellowtail had a solid funk to it which was hard to cover up even under spicy mayo and soy sauce. There is a lot to like about the poke and bubble tea here. Fresh fish and good sauces carry these guys very far. The Thai bubble tea too is well made. Last time we were there they had started serving ramen which is not as good as the poke, but maybe a good alternative for those who don't like raw fish. (Sidenote: if you don't like fish don't go to a poke restaurant... please... I can't tell you how many people I have seen make this mistake. It's like watching a vegetarian go to a steak house. Located in the Barracks shopping center across from Tara Thai...another place I frequent, but anyway I think this is a start to a long relationship. I have only been to the physical location once for lunch and had delivery a few times to my hotel. Lets start with the deliveries first and then hit the visit to the restaurant. Granted the deliveries were through a second party (Grubhub/DoorDash) the level of consistency was there and it was always positive. The food was fresh, not in dissarray in its traveling containers and well packaged in the Togo bags annnnnd the tastes - of epic proportion! Now for my In-store section. Normally for the deliveries my girlfriend orders me the same bowl that I usually get every time we order out for Poke Sushi. My usual bowl consists of one of her previous bowls and I fell in love with it. I went into the restaurant knowing I was going to get some good stuff and realized quickly that I had no idea what the hell to order. With help from the awesome staff I was able to get close and I was happy with the outcome. I did know that the Hawaii bowl was my goto but had no idea what to put on it. Thanks poke staff for the assist with the ingredients. Everything was fresh and tasted great. I also took my crew out to experience it and everyone enjoyed something that was new to them. This location is very clean inside and out, especially where the food is sitting. BIG POSITIVE. 5 stars for the Charlottesville area, probably 4 stars overall in the grand scheme of things when compared to poke I've had outside of the area. The custom bowl is the way to go. I got white rice with salmon and spicy tuna. For my toppings/sides, I feel like I got almost everything since there wasn't any limit - but I loved the seaweed options they had the most. Definitely would recommend getting the spicy mayo sauce on top! Portions were great and everything tasted really fresh! I got here at an opportune time when there wasn't a long line of people behind me waiting. Really nice addition to the area. I've been coming to Charlottesville for years every summer and it's a home away from home. Was not surprised to see a poke spot open up here since the food in this city is incredible and diverse with pretty much everything! $10.95 is a great value for two proteins and tons of great toppings to choose from. I did spicy tuna + salmon over brown rice adding jalapeño, cucumber, black seaweed, cucumber, ginger, and edamame. Chose the yuzu sauce which is light and tart.
