St Peter's Armenian Apostolic Church has a couple of fund raising bazaars/festivals each year. My first indulgence was a couple of years ago, and I enjoyed the different foods so much that I've been back several times now. The gatherings are held in early June and early December. Some of the delicious things I've enjoyed on my visits are: Appetizers: Babaganoush (eggplant dip) with pita bread. Lahmejune (beef/lamb pizza). Yalanchi (rice stuffed grape leaves). Soup: Madzoonov Kufte (Armenian yogurt and meatball soup). Entrée: Dolma (a full sized pepper filled with a lamb and rice stuffing). Dessert: Beoreg (triangles of filo dough and cheese). Bird's Nest (walnut filled filo dough shaped like nests). Bourma (filo dough rolled around a walnut filling). Gatnabour (Armenian rice pudding). Kadayif (cream filled shredded filo dough). Paklava (walnut filled filo dough). There is plenty more to choose from, including BBQ & Shish Kabob at the June event, and you can either eat at the festival/bazaar or have the food packed to take home. These festivities also have crafts for sale and music. Did I mention how friendly all the people are? Mark your calendars for next June and December. It really doesn't get any better than this, even if you have a grandmother's house to go to. After all, many grandmothers have done all the cooking here.

Dropped my child off Sunday night for sleep away camp. I felt really uneasy because they don't let…read morethe children keep their cell phones, I get it, it's camp no phones, which is fine with me, but at least let these kids keep them in their book bags in case anything happens, or if they happen to feel uncomfortable. So Sunday night I couldn't sleep of course thinking about my child who has never been anywhere but home, so I drive up there Monday morning and I was told I could not see my child ( it's not recommended ) ok cool I get it home sickness, so I left. Called there Tuesday was told my child was doing fine. Weds I get a call from my child saying he wants to come home. He did not seem happy or in a good mood at all. Which is weird because if my child was having a good time, he would never call me so I knew something was up. He told me he was crying himself to sleep and every time I called up there It was not brought to my attention. His back is all bit up with bug bites. Just a real traumatizing and horrible experience for his first time at Sleepaway camp. Not to mention they push the God stuff a little too hard on the kids. It kind of reminded me actually of a cult. I'm so upset my child had such a awful experience, his first time going to a sleep away camp.

Yet the one thing that makes this place so special, so separate, and such an incredible light are the people that you will meet there. Whether you wander up on a sleepy Wednesday morning and just say hello to some of the resident workers or you go for an event such as the Dances for Universal Peace, you will meet people, true of heart, who have come for one simple thing; to reconnect with their soul, with all of nature, with existence itself. This place is worth saving, this place is worth everything.

A modern style Catholic Church with a traditional Pastor and active congregation. This was my…read moreregular church when I lived in the area many years ago. I've been back on occasions over the years and I'm happy to see the faith community is still thriving here. I really do prefer old traditional style churches over these modern layouts but since the congregation is what truly makes a church, I definitely recommend this one.
