Of all the types…read moreof massage one can receive (feel good "spa day" massage vs focused therapeutic sometimes painful treatment), Cristina's massages are the perfect middle ground in all ways -- the kind I want to receive with regularity. She's a master at knowing when to use which type of her wide breadth of styles (Deep tissue, sports therapy, acupressure, shiatsu, Swedish, lymphatic Ayurveda -- just to name a few...) I appreciate how she authentically holds the space with attunement and intentional energy, but then knows how to get down into the nitty gritty of deeply held tension. Her fingertips are like steel when needed! I once lay on her table experiencing old dusty goblins emerging from under my shoulder blades thanks to a few of Cristina's well-placed fingertips in my shoulder. Can't guarantee everyone is harboring soon to emerge shoulder goblins, but I'd bet there's something covered in cobwebs that she'll hone in on! What I appreciate most of all is the way she listened to and followed by body's lead. None of that useless pressing-so-hard-I-tense-up-everywhere foolishness. She's incredibly strong and knows how to use it, pushing my edge while keeping me loose, addressing very specific trouble areas and allowing the results to last a long time. Her office is an extremely peaceful idyllic spot on a farm. Very simple, no frills, but lots of presence and beauty. Arriving, chatting, even sharing some tea -- the entire experience is a luxury.

There were several spots to sit and have a quiet moment on the property and there was tea and water and nuts available in multiple spots. I had the cedar bath followed by the fusion massage. The cedar bath is a very unique experience and felt grounding and comforting. It was indeed special and a unique experience and it is something I will likely come back for. Now the not so positive...the showers and changing rooms are quite small and very well lived in. The shower curtain had a mold like smell and considering how immaculate the gardens are, I am surprised they have not invested some funds into updating the indoor facilities, especially because the services are priced fairly high. I went on a Monday and my locker room wasn't busy but I can imagine it may get busy on the weekends because they are small and do not have much room for more than 1-2 people at a time. My massage was mediocre at best. I regularly get Swedish massages and do not require a lot of pressure but the massage therapist was very gentle and at times I felt like I was being softly pet and not massaged. I asked for more pressure five times and after that it started getting awkward for me. She also did not ask me if I wanted my scalp massaged and did this at the end and left my hair quite oily. I normally agree to the scalp massage but did not want to wash my hair after. In all the massages I have had, the therapist usually asks before using oil on the scalp. Finally, I paid the upgrade fee to have my massage in the Pagoda. It was a hot day so the therapist kept the door open and then later shut it due to bugs. After I left I counted (and took some pictures which I will spare the internet) of 9 huge mosquito bites. It's been 12 hours and I am still itching! I think I will give this spa one more shot because of the cedar bath but I may skip the other services.

Her "cottage" is very warm and welcoming; an abundance of flowers, a beautiful mural and a fully realized garden space if one prefers an outdoor experience. She is well versed in many methods of massage, her hands are something beyond lovely. Aromatherapy, beautiful music? As you like, of course! Obviously I highly recommend. We use mostly (I think) the Hendricksen method. She works through my clothes with a rolling technique that is wonderful. There is a fine place to change if you want, but this is what works for me. Sometimes I like the spa approach, most definitely, but right now I am mostly going so I don't get sore all the time and feel like a hunchback on my left side.
