So disappointed today with my massage. I'm a long time customer so I don't understand. I told the technician that I had just had a facial the day before and so don't focus on my neck and instead focus on my legs as I play tennis and my legs are sore. She then proceeded to massage my neck and shoulder for 30 minutes!!!! I swear I actually looked to check. She left little time for anything else. I have to say that I just had a really upsetting experience at Massage Envy and please know I will 100% be reaching out to this local chain and corporate in response. I reserved a massage the same day I was to be massaged. I let them know specifically I wanted a female therapist and someone who could apply firm pressure (this particular chain has different options as to what pressure you prefer). The receptionist told me she could book me with a female who could do firm. I arrived a few minutes early because the one visit last year I had at Massage Envy had a preconsultation. They told me I didn't need to do it because I had been to a massage envy before. When the therapist led me to the room she asked what I was looking to do and I told her I want to work on a lot of tension I was harboring in my body because I was going through some stress. So I wanted firm pressure, but not deep tissue. The therapist was very chatty from the getgo which I have never experienced but I tried my best to be polite. She continued to make conversation and I figured as long as she was doing her job I wouldn't stop her. Boy was I wrong. When I asked if she lived in the area, she had mentioned she lived in a particular part of NJ that I was looking for apartments in. She went "ugh", indicating she didn't like that part of NJ and I asked why. She told me she has lived there for a large part of her life and she didn't like anyone from there. She said, and I QUOTE "this is the nicest way to put it [long pause] but it is literally INFESTED with Indian people". I was appalled at her wording and thought she would self correct or somehow explain herself but she kept going on, saying more racially charged and wildly inappropriate things about the Indian community I am not interested in repeating. On top of her racist language she continued to share personal stories for which I did not ask and honestly these were not stories I found professional at all especially for a client whom she's never met before. I am not one to tell a stranger to stop airing out their issues in a workplace, so naturally I let her talk. I tried escaping the conversation by not feeding into it too much and changing topics. I am not from the Indian community. However, if anyone spoke like that about my own community I would be absolutely disgusted. I am very embarrassed and ashamed to say I didn't get up in the moment to say something. I really should have gotten up mid-massage and left after letting her know the pain she has caused with her words and attitude. I sat there, dumbfounded, unable to relax and enjoy the service I had paid $120 for (plus $21 in tip and a little less in tax). I am in so much regret and pain right now that I continued with the service and paid for it with tip. I am incredibly embarrassed and ashamed of myself for not having been more actively responsive and promise to do better. When it came to her massage skills they were objectively ok. She mentioned she was going to massage my face but didn't. She came nowhere near my legs and on my back, she focused the massage on my left and not my right side. The massage also ended very suddenly and felt halted as opposed to many massages I've gotten that have ended with light strokes or a percussion technique. She didn't apply firm pressure as I had asked, it turned out, because on my way out (after pushing more massages on me), when I confirmed what she had done was firm pressure, she said it wasn't firm pressure, and it was pretty "medium" for her. My experience with the receptionist was just fine, but my massage was mediocre at BEST and the conversation I had to endure was wildly inappropriate and uncomfortable. If you care at all about respecting communities of color and honestly just straight up professionalism in these work spaces, I highly recommend you do NOT come to this establishment. read more

Was excited to finally use a gift card I received for a massage and booked online filling out the form explaining areas of tension. Arrived early and ended up watching my massage therapist walk in the store after I had arrived. Once in the room, the massage therapist asked what areas I want to focus on ( even though I had already filled this out in a form prior). Discussed wanting a full body massage but to spend extra time on the shoulders and neck. He left so I can prepare for the massage and the table was cold, the heater was never turned on. I explained this when he entered the room and he turned it on. It's the summer so air conditioning is running and I was extremely cold for the beginning of the massage until the table finally warmed up. In addition to starting the massage cold, I never ended up with a full body massage as he only focused on my back. I give three stars because the front desk reduced the bill when I explained I didn't even get the full body massage. Unfortunately, I still feel it was a waste of money to end up cold and not even get what I had scheduled my appointment for. read more

Do NOT go to any of the Massage Envy locations owned by the Patel's. They violate Massage Envy's company policy and up charge the monthly membership rate if purchased elsewhere. I've spoken to and received information from other management and the regional director and was told that it was in direct violation of company policy to do this. Many massage therapists to choose from! When I called the girl at the front desk asked me questions to fit me with the right therapist. When I arrived the girls were extremely professional and attentive. The manager introduced herself and made me feel welcomed. My therapist was beyond great so I decided to join. I had promo card from when I purchased two gift cards in 2020. Because of covid, I was never able to use the card. I phoned this morning to see if they would honor the card and the assistant manager gave me an unqualified "no" because they had been open during covid. Because of certain health related issues, I have been extremely cautious during covid and would not have been able to use this card until now. This is a local business, I am a local resident, and I was sure they would afford me this courtesy particularly after having purchased two full-priced gift cards in the past. I guess they have enough business to feel comfortable alienating a customer. Won't be calling them again. read more

Massage Envy really is hit or miss. It's hard to be a chain massage business because, in my opinion, you start out with less credibility. The first few times I went, I was NOT impressed at all. The walls are so thin that I kept hearing every conversation happening outside of the doors. I also just generally was not comfortable - the bed was warm but I kept getting breezes of cold air. The most recent time, I had the BEST experience. My masseuse made sure I was comfortable in every way - the room, the pressure she put on me, and even the music volume. I left more relaxed, my lower back felt better, and my experience made me want to make another appointment ASAP! read more

I have had two facials & a massage all from different people and all they were all very professional, accommodating & definitely knew what they were doing! I had the worst massage and I am so sad because I had saved up for a 90 minute massage. She looked experienced, she was a mature woman but I swear she had no idea what she was doing and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. If I am thinking about when is this over and what should I get at the grocery store during a massage ....that's as about as bad as it gets. This wasn't about not enough pressure or to much this was just bad and no amount of me saying something was going to improve her technique. I WANT A DO OVER! I am a loyal customer for over two years. I have not been happy with this location at all. I purchased a 3 pack of massages in the middle of December and used one in January and one in February. My massage in January was lovely but the one in February was terrible. I understand a 60 min massage is less than 60 mins to account for dressing/undressing but the massage was only 40 mins at best. Nonetheless, I would have used the last one in March, however, with everything going on I did not feel comfortable. As such my last credit expired before I could use it. I called the store the other day and asked if they would extend the expiration date and they said no because "it expired in early March when nothing was happening". Nothing was happening?? I find it hard to believe we went from "nothing happening" to the country shutting down in a week. Regardless, what upset me the most was the rude, condescending tone of the manager I spoke to. Maybe she felt comfortable but as someone with Type 1 diabetes, I did not feel comfortable at the time. I didn't appreciate her telling me how I should have felt when it came to my health. As I had already paid for the services and these are extremely unprecedented times, I would have thought a little bit of flexibility could be afforded. The receptionist Megan greeted each client/member by their first name and I liked that, it made it seem very personal. The woman who preformed my massage, Eden, asked me what exactly I was looking for and she did just that. Had an appointment a few days ago, which they moved me to a male therapist without asking, ok fine...massage was eh.... then went to the new place across the street called Elements yesterday to see if it was different or the same kind of trash hole. Massage Envy was DISGUSTINGLY filthy inside, the hallways, bathrooms, the toilet had stains on it..... -_-.... elements, was beautiful, relaxing, the owners are SO friendly and funny. They make sure you are 100% happy before walking out. Massage Envy's owner does not know how to run a business. Came in for my first time for a sports massage (got the 60 minute probably should of went with the 90) and the massage was great. The staff was friendly and super helpful. At the end of my massage, they offered me membership into their monthly program where you get discounted massages (contract for a year). At the time, it seemed like a good idea but after much though I personally didn't see the value.I called the next day and the staff was super helpful in helping me get out of the contract and I truly appreciate it. Requested book to get some info about the therapist I was scheduled to see. Manager was manning the front desk and she did not know where the book was. I was told it was being revised. When she finally found it she said the therapist did not have a profile in it. The therapist has worked there since April. I commented on how pathetic it was to have not updated the book in that length of time. This manager could not provide any written information about the therapist nor could she tell me anything. Besides this her customer service skills were lacking as she defended those that were revising the book giving excuses as to why there was nothing in the book about this therapist. Terrible experience! I went for a facial after receiving a gift card. I made my appt for a few days later. They were not very nice when I made the appt, but I kept it anyway. Should have gone with my first instinct and changed to another location. The facial itself was great - Angela is excellent! Then they try to sell you a membership. I told her I would think about it. I was going to join at some point, just not sure about the timing or location. So glad I waited. I went to check out and the girl couldn't get my gift card to work. I tried to show her the email to show her it was valid. She didn't want to see it, wouldn't try to call someone, she wanted me to pay. She said maybe I had to wait 'a few days' before the gift card was valid. The email did not say anything about that, only the expiration time from purchase date. Clearly she hadn't a clue why it wouldn't work, but that is not my problem. I told her I would not pay by anything other than the gift card. I knew it was valid. She kept saying the aesthetician had to get paid. Fine, pay her. Massage envy has the money already when they sent me the gift card. She was really nasty and had no interest in solving the problem, just wanted me to pay. She wrote down my gift card number and said she would speak to the manager. I told her to have the manager call me. Hopefully the manager will get it to work but I will never go back there again. If they are independently operated I may try another location. My girlfriend said Florham Park is good, but they are further away. May be worth the drive. read more
