Customer service. When there's a billing issue, (like having to change a card on file due to fraud) they attempt to get a hold of you in EVERY way. When you arrive for an appointment you made a month ago to find out your therapist called off and your appointment is cancelled (after arranging your schedule around the appt and paying for parking) SURPRISE!! NO communication at all. Just a "WOWWW...they didn't call you..." No apology just a blank stare. BEWARE. The new location sucks. The girl at the front desk sucks (there's usually a guy that's great. This girl today, not so much.) If you find a therapist you like (as in my case) consider yourself lucky. You might be able to muscle through for them. But I hate giving the business my money and there's literally NOTHING else about the experience to look forward to besides the right therapist. read more

The managers Michael Barajas and Madeline Barney, are very unprofessional when handling errors their employees made. After acknowledging their workers provided wrong information and charged me incorrectly, I was still being charged for the error they made. I also asked for them to no longer use card on file, nor have I used that card since last year, Maddi confirmed, yet they extracted money from my bank account, after I was told, they will no longer use that card. I asked for the money to be reversed, and Maddi wanted to go back and forth with me, even with her seeing the notes in the account. That makes that an unauthorized charged to that account. The fact the errors continued to happen on their end, and they want me to pay for the mistakes, I no longer want tk be serviced by them at all. I have been a member since 2018, and for their behaviors to be as unprofessional as they are is distasteful and disheartening. Avoid this location by all means, very unprofessional. read more

Unprofessional, Negligent Service and Refusal to Refund. Do Not Recommend. My experience as a Massage Envy member has been profoundly disappointing due to systemic failures in communication, customer service, and management. After a positive initial experience at the Oak Park location, I was persuaded to sign up for a membership. I was never explicitly informed of the one-year minimum commitment, a detail that proved to be a significant roadblock later. Due to scheduling difficulties at Oak Park, I began using the Elmhurst location. My experience there devolved into a nightmare marked by extreme unprofessionalism. First Incident: Incorrect No-Show Charge and Poor Resolution I was incorrectly charged a "no-show" fee despite having canceled my appointment within the 24-hour window. It took two weeks to finally speak with a manager, after which I was issued a coupon rather than a refund for the improperly charged service. Second Incident: Severe Data Breach and Scheduling Error For a subsequent appointment, my booking was inexplicably moved without my consent. A receptionist disclosed that a text message regarding my appointment had been sent to an incorrect number, and a reply was received from an individual in Florida. This represents a serious breach of privacy and a complete failure of your scheduling system. The fact that my verified information was mishandled is deeply unsettling. Cancellation Process and Unhelpful Management Following these incidents, I requested to cancel my membership, explaining my poor experience to a District Manager. She directed me back to the Oak Park location, citing the original contract. When I called the Oak Park manager, Maddi, she initially refused the cancellation, insisting on the one-year agreement. It was only after I insisted on speaking with her superior and mentioned escalating my complaint that she reluctantly offered a "courtesy" cancellation via email. Even after submitting the form promptly, Maddi delayed processing it for over two weeks and only acted after my complaint was forwarded by the corporate office. When she finally processed the cancellation last night, she had the audacity to ask me to reconsider. I still have not received a response regarding a refund for my three unused credits and the three improperly charged credits. The Bottom Line This company has demonstrated a complete lack of regard for its customers. I was forced to pay for a service that was repeatedly denied to me due to your company's incompetence. After being disrespected and treated so poorly, I will not be using any Massage Envy location again. I am left with no services and no refund for the money that was unjustly kept. I signed up for a membership on Saturday, November 2nd and completed my first massage on November 4th. The Customer Service Representative who signed me up, entered my email incorrectly, so I'm having issues using the APP and the website. I have sent multiple emails and went to the counter in person, to get the mistake corrected. It's still not fixed. I am very uncomfortable, having a 12-month contract, with the wrong information on it. My massage was awesome, but I'm not very happy with the front desk staff. :( read more

I received a gift card which is how I ended up at this massage location. I was so disappointed afterwards that the only/MAIN reason for going there was to work on my dislocated shoulders.... biceps, pectorals and scapula's. I ended up with a great massage in areas that I did not need work and the actual areas I requested were never worked on. The sad thing is that this therapist was good. I kept waiting for him to address my issues. He was not given correct information and I lost out on the work I needed done. I left feeling as bad as I did when I walked in the door. I had one massage left that I needed to take by the end of July. I had an appointment but the guy that I had it with left . They called me on July 26 and I called back on July 27. I made a new appointment for August but needed to change it as I am caring for my mom and aunt and things come up. Well I was told that I would have to pay. I said why, it wasn't me who canceled the July appointment. So the manager called and said I had no credit left even though it was their fault that I was not able to get the massage on July 29 with Curly! BUYER BEWARE. BAIT AND SWITCH ON CUSTOMERS. I scheduled a 90 min massage about 1 month ago. At the time I scheduled I informed the employee over the phone that i would be using a transferred service from my aunt. She looked up my account and verified there was a 60 min service transferred to me and that all I would be paying was to upgrade to 90. I was very happy this was possible. This past Saturday I had my service and when I finished and came up front to pay I was told my total was going to be more than $180. I informed the woman at the desk that I had a transferred service and was told I would only be paying to upgrade it to 90 min today. She informed me that she saw the service but "for some reason I am unable to pull it over." She asked to take a photo of the gift card I planned on using and when another employee arrived she would have them assist her and call me back with the remaining balance on my card. At this point I was still being told I would be responsible for the upgrade cost and gratuity I wanted to add on as well. I received a call about 10 min later at which point I was told that the member who transferred me the service was no longer a member as of yesterday. Literally the day prior. And therefore the transferred credit was not valid. Because of this I was told i will owe the full service. But due to circumstances I could have the introductory rate. As if that was some sort of great deal I should be thanking them for. I went in under the impression and with very clear understanding at the time I scheduled that I would be paying an upgrade fee of $30 plus gratuity and instead ended up paying a total of $138 because I was not told the service I had been transferred was no longer valid. I am not aware of my aunt's membership status nor am I on that side of the computer where I can be made aware of it. I am upset because had I been told PRIOR to having the service that the transferred 60 min service was no longer valid/I would be charged full price for what I was about to have done, there is absolutely no way I would have gone forward with this from a financial standpoint. How am I told this incredibly important information AFTER the fact when MY CREDIT CARD is on file and I am left quite literally with no choice but to now pay $138 rather than the $55 I planned on spending? I explained this over the phone and was told by the employee "well this has never happened where the membership is cancelled one day before so I didn't know until you checked out. This is a learning experience for me." Which I now find comical considering there is another review posted 2 days prior to my experience stating they went through the same bait and switch. my experience with the staff at massage envy in riverforest was amazing from the front desk to the massage i received from susan however i'm sending this review is on crochell wiggan she is supposedly a client coordinator for massage envy who calls my phone being extremely disrespectful and trying to intimidate and bulley me all at the same time she continued to over talk me as if she was speaking to a child her demeanor and her approach is disrespectful unprofessional unwarranted and even when i ask her not to call me or communicate with me in any manner she turns around and sends me an email i know this is not the type of conduct or image that massage envy wants to portray its sad then she tells me that the money i accumulated towards my massage is no longer valid and that she was gonna make sure i would not be able to use them at. all and and so if she took my money where did it go i will not ever consider going to massage envy ever again and its sad because the staff and my massage therapist was amazing read more

I love my therapist Erick! He's got the perfect touch. I have gotten two massages already in the last month and a half and I think I'm scheduled to see him again this Tuesday. His schedule depends on the day of the week. He's got weekend appointments that get booked quickly but it's worth the wait. I do not want to switch, unless possibly cause he's on vacation for a month or something! Check him out or just check out this location. The staff is very professional and they have additional services besides massage. They do facials and foot scrubs, aroma therapy and other stuff. I haven't even looked at the entire menu. I just know that all the stress that I carry on my shoulders and back is getting better just from all the tips that Erick has given me and the massages that he's provided. Highly recommended. Worst business!!! Poorly run. My massage therapist is great but is only there every other weekend and the schedule is only opened 4-6 weeks in advance. Despite numerous phone calls and visits to schedule an appointment I was told the schedule is not open and to call at a later date. i was put on a list and assured I would be called when it opened, confirmed again last week. Today I called and not only was the schedule opened, almost all slots were booked! Other times my appointment has been canceled without notice, changed from 90 minutes to 60 minutes without notice. I have left messages to speak to the manager and never been called back despite leaving repeated messages for months. This place is so very poorly run. I only go for the therapist. read more

I've been a Massage Envy member for over 6 years and this past year has been the worst customer experience ever. I have my home location in North Carolina and moved to Illinois and was able to use my membership here. I was seeing someone at the Wheaton location who was unfortunately out on medical leave and had to cancel several appointments within 24 hours of my massage. They did their best to get me in but it would be several weeks after having already waited weeks for my appointment that ended up getting canceled. It's unfortunate because if a member cancels within 24 hours we are charged but if the location cancels they aren't held responsible. Since it was so challenging to get scheduled, I canceled my membership through my home location and was told I had 90 days to use my passes. I had a lot of passes left and booked my appointments in Wheaton. I was only able to attend 1 of them and the others were canceled. When the 90 days were up, there was nothing the Wheaton location could do to reschedule the canceled appointments since they weren't my home location. It is extremely frustrating as a member to use my membership at different locations because no one wants to be held responsible. It's not the North Carolina's location's problem that my therapist canceled due to medical issues and it's so much back and forth when Wheaton is trying to accommodate but everything has to be approved through North Carolina. On top of all of this, it is extremely challenging to find a good massage therapist. I have very bad TMJ and get pain relief from getting a massage. I have called around to different locations to try to get in since the Wheaton location is always booked and the therapist there is unreliable. I have tried the Glen Ellyn location as well as the Old Town location. In Old Town, I called specifically to have someone who is familiar with TMJ and can help with that and I was advised to schedule with a certain therapist. My massage with her was the weirdest massage I've ever had, she was borderline aggressive, and I asked her to focus on certain areas and she never even touched them. It was a waste of time when I was looking for pain relief. I won't be going back there. Since I had so many passes, I wanted to transfer one to a friend. I paid $10 in the transfer and he was able to schedule the appointment in River Forest. Unfortunately on the day of his appointment, he had to cancel due to a family emergency. He was told that he would be charged 50% of $75 since that's what the pass was worth. He was then charged $62.50 instead of $37.50. After 3 calls to the River Forest location, we were told they couldn't do anything since that's what the policy is and they're not my home location. There is no one held responsible for giving misinformation and nothing showing good customer service. I used to love Massage Envy and I don't know what has happened but I would never recommend Massage Envy to anyone and will never be going back. Such a waste of time. Such a waste of money. I don't usually leave reviews, but I must leave one for Massage Envy Oak Park before relocating out of state. Most masseuses there are good, but I must say that Szymon far exceeded my expectations. He is one of the best therapists I have ever had and I've been getting massage and acupuncture my whole life after a car rollover when I was a teenager. Currently, with Covid they take extra precautions and have it down to a completely safe operation whereby you check in online and disinfect hands on your way in, masks everybody. I sure am going to miss my best healer as I move away from River Forest. Greatly enjoyed living here. Thanks Massage Envy Oak Park for the awesome service and professionalism. I purchased a membership through this location. I took a half day off of work and scheduled a massage and facial a week prior to my appointment. I scheduled this for 2/28/20, this being the third time I scheduled an appointment at this location. When I arrived, I waited in the serenity room for 20 minutes after my scheduled 12:00pm appointment. While in the serenity room, my husband called me and I was talking to him on my cell phone but was promptly told by a staff member that cell phone usage was not allowed in the serenity room and re directed to the sign on the wall regarding cell phone usage in the serenity room. This was fine and I complied but still no one waited on me and took me to my scheduled massage. Finally, I went to the front desk to ask the status of my massage. The receptionist/so called manager told me that she would see what was holding up the male masseuse who was scheduled to massage me. At that point I lost it! I have and always request female to massage me! No offense, but I do not prefer any man to massage me unless he is my husband! When I signed up for my membership I did indicate a preference for female message therapists! This place destroyed my half day off and I do not recommend anyone going there! Awful experience. Where to begin. I requested a male therapist only to arrive and no males be available. I was asked multiple times what my target areas were only for them not to be focused upon. The therapist spent extra time on area I didn't ask for. I finally just got up and walked out without finishing my massage due to bad experience. After desperately waiting for Saturday morning to get my much needed facial (9am appt)I walk in jolly as can be after waiting 20 minutes in the waiting room with no one telling me anything and other appt being taking in as soon as the walked in. I go to the front desk only to find out that my Aesthetician Rachel was under the impression she was starting at at 10 am not 9 am. You would think they would of told me. Not only are the massages average at best the management is terrible. I did not reserve a massage within their 60 day time frame due to my mother being in hospice and subsequently dying. No exceptions for me to use my "expired" $120 credit unless I sign up for another 6 month membership! No email reminders were sent out that I had credits about to expire! No phone call reminders! They got my money and that's all they care about! Well I give them 6 months and they will be gone! How is this a way to grow a business that is suppose to be about health and wellness. This is a follow up to the review posted on 12/20 about the gift cards bought accidentally. The owner responded to my comment and provided a link to submit my issue to "resolve" this. I already did that on 12/20, after I spoke to the owner on the phone. The response I got from my submission of this issue through the link provided was that the owner of the franchise needed to resolve this. So the comment in response to my comment, acting like they are intending on resolving this, is not sincere. The receptionist staff is always warm and welcoming and very polite on the phone as well. I have had nothing but excellent massages from this location. The noise level is very minimal, and the facilities are very new, so everything works well. If you are looking for an effective massage, this is a great place. My appointment was cancelled the same day(9/26) and I was given times that would not work. Erica rushed me off the phone. I had to call back the next day even though I asked for the manager to call me back. When I spoke to Edita she was there, knew about the incident, and still didn't call me back. She went on and on about how life happens. If I cancel last minute... I pay, but if they cancel last minute I have to talk on the phone for almost 20 minutes with no reasonable resolution. Erica, Edita Bernadino, and the Oak Park location are absolutely horrible and unprofessional. I've been a ME member for 3/4 years and at Southport they were always amazing. Having been to several Massage Envy locations, I was impressed by the service here. I was using a massage credit from my mom and there was a bit of an issue. Daisy at the front desk went above and beyond - even contacting other locations - to fix the problem. I was so thankful for all her effort as my mom was out of town and it saved me from having to bother her with the issue. As for the location itself, it's very warm and comforting. They have a large serenity room, but (nitpicking here) I wish they had the DVD of the ocean playing that I've seen at other locations instead of just a TV that was off. I know it's a silly complaint (hence still 5 stars) but I always like pretending I'm somewhere else on these cold days! The massage I received was one of the best. I've had a lot of pain in my neck and shoulders and opted to have the full hour spent on those areas. I felt the therapist really listened to my areas of concern and was not only productive in getting knots out, but also very relaxing. Ever massage is sub par and the last one focused on only one side of my body even though I specifically said I had pain on the other side. They sit on a stool, they don't listen to the problem areas, and it you want stress from your shoulders reduced... good luck! I had a one hour massage by Lavante this past weekend ~ Important to note that I'm a Physical Therapist so I have a ton of training with manual therapy techniques. Lavante is FANTASTIC!!! Not only is he able to apply the deep pressure that I need, he also has excellent massage techniques. I was impressed with his service and he'll definitely be my go-to Therapist at Massage Envy. This location has terrible customer service and continues to lose all of its quality employees. I struggled to find a quality masseuse for sometime but after trial and error i finally did. However they have since fired both of them and now I'm back to square one. In addition I have asked to transfer massages on several occasions to friends. I've spoken with representatives who have told me everything is taken care of, yet on 3 separate occasions I've had friends who were told that there's still paperwork athat needs to be taken care of. I've also asked to pay for the transfer fees before had which the representative told me I could however my friends were told that it was never taken care of. There fore turning a gift into something they had to pay for which makes me feel like a jerk. I was also never made aware of the fact that I could only share an hour of my massages each month seeing how I have already paid for them. I now have a boat lid of massages adding up that I can't possible catch up on. Therefore I would highly recommend staying away from the monthly massage program. After a year the discount is completely removed which makes absolutely ZERO sense to continue, unless you have massages which you haven't been able to keep up with which it seems they do purposefully. Every time I call to make an appointment I'm told I have to wait 2-3 weeks which makes it tough to catch up. It feels like they do this on purpose in order to continue to receive your subscription fees. I just happened to notice the 1-star average on Yelp, and feel compelled to chime in. Of the four reviewers, only one has actually had a massage here and that person claims it was an excellent massage but the fact that the times are mis-advertised by 10 minutes (more on that later) apparently cancelled out the entire massage experience. *rolls eyes* I've been coming here for prenatal massage, and chose this spot for an initial appointment solely based on the convenience of the location. In case you're interested in the pricing structure, the way it works is that they offer an initial massage or facial for an introductory rate (as of the writing of this review, that's ~$50 for a 50min massage). If you're interested in membership, you pay their regular rate - ~$60 for a 50min massage - once a month and any subsequent services are at a grossly reduced rate (currently ~$40 for a 50min massage). Oh and there's one more free massage thrown in there as part of a current membership promotion (so, over the last 2 months I've had four 50min massages and paid $150 plus gratuity, and from here on out two 50min massages a month will cost me $100 plus gratuity). As such, I consider the per minute cost to be *very* reasonable - especially since I just moved here from San Francisco!! My expectations of massage quality were low; I mean, the venue is a Midwestern, suburban, strip mall! Fortunately, I was blown away. The massages are excellent. For the ladies who are expecting, all prenatal massages are performed by therapists certified specifically in prenatal massage. I've had the pleasure of working with Aaron and Edith so far, and both did a fabulous job. I'll likely be proceeding with Edith from here on out, but that's simply because of scheduling convenience (well, that and I personally am more comfortable with a female therapist, but that's not to say that Aaron was anything but professional). Each session, they spend a few minutes discussing specifics to work on, and they really do pay attention to issues you might bring up. The "spa" itself is barebones. It's nicely decorated, but it's literally a reception area and inner waiting room (no other spa amenities), and as far as I'm aware, there is no place to shower here. Of course, that's likely a component of what allows them to keep the price down. In addition to massage, they offer other services such as facials and aromatherapy, but I can't comment on those. Now the bad. You'll note, I keep referring to the massages as 50minute ones, but if you look at Massage Envy's promotional materials, there is no mention of a 50min service - only a 1hr or a 1.5hr. As another reviewer mentioned. They consider a 1hr service to be 50min of active massage time and 10min of discussion (and if you have nothing to discuss, then it's just 10minutes wasted). I agree that this is false advertising, and I was pretty annoyed the first few times it happened. However, if you look at the cost for active massage time, it's still a pretty epic deal. Thus, if someone from the spa happens to read this, please tell someone in management/advertising to man up and advertise what's actually being offered! Unlike the other reviewer, being cheated out of 10 minutes does not make me feel like my entire massage was negated, but it does cause me to dock a half-star. My other complaint, which also echoes a prior reviewer, is that the marketing practices are somewhat aggressive and the Internet services do not integrate particularly seamlessly with their customer service. I too tried to book a first appointment online, and the person who called me didn't seem to have at hand any of the information I'd already filled out. It's also annoying that in addition to getting an online confirmation/reminder I always get a phone call the day before too. It's 2015 folks! Either have a confirm button for us to press in the email, or just send the electronic confirmation and charge us for a missed appointment. I hate having to deal with a human on the phone an extra time. Not to mention, what happens if I miss the call? Is the appointment cancelled? If so, that's just stupid because I made the appointment and that should be respected. If not, then don't waste my time by calling me! Also, shortly after my first appointment I got multiple phone calls advertising promotional deals, and most of these calls were on evenings and weekends to boot, so *super* annoying. The first two times I was lucky enough to miss the calls, but the time I accidentally picked up, I firmly told the woman on the line to remove me from any marketing call list. I haven't heard from them since (except for the appointment confirmation calls and by emails), so hopefully that's all it takes. In short, excellent massages at affordable prices (oh, and very flexible times too - 7 days a week with lots of evening and weekend hours), but customer service/marketing strategies more befitting of its strip mall-esque vibe ;). read more

I'm not sure why this location has received such poor to mediocre reviews! My experience from start to finish has always surpassed my expectations. The women at the front desk are friendly, upbeat and very attentive. The therapists I have received massages from always delivered exactly what I asked for. I wish I could give NO stars ....If you look at my yelp review history to date, I have yet to leave a bad review. I am not one of those that slams businesses. This time however I am NOT holding back. First, let me tell you this is not my first issue with a Massage Envy . So let's run it back to September 25,2014 when I took my fiance to the massage envy in Orland Park ( I think that's the location) for his 30th birthday to get him a massage... Mine was ehhh..OK at best . His however was awful. The masseuse had a runny nose which she sniffled and wiped throughout the massage and to top it off she whispered to herself the entire time. After our massages I brought that to the attention of the manager only to receive a response that she was "Sorry" and that she will do me a courtesy of allowing us to use the $49 special again to make up for it..... COURTESY to me??? Are you kidding me. Don't do me any favors lady. Fast forward to last Wednesday the 26th of November. I made an appt at this location for both my fiance and I. At the time of booking I made it VERY clear to the receptionist that we both wanted female masseuse. She ensured me this wouldn't be a problem. Fast forward to us arriving. I will say the woman that assisted us as we filled out our paperwork was FANTASTIC. Super calming and started off what we expected to be an enjoyable spa experience really well. After she ran us thru everything, I reminded her that we requested 2 females, she said not a problem let me show you to the waiting room. We wait for about 10 mins and in walks a woman and a man telling us they are ready for us. I said my apologizes, we requested 2 females. The female at that time rolled her eyes and said ok wait and someone will assist you. The gentleman I must add was actually very kind and said no problem and walked away. We waited again for about 10 mins and a man came out who I would assume was the manager and said " What is the problem you have" clearly there is a communication issue within their staff but I kindly explained to him the issue. He replied by saying I don't know why anyone would tell you two females would be available because they are not, I said well she did and I cant remember his reply verbatim but it was insinuating that I was lying. I said ok, we will go somewhere else. He then had the nerve to tell me as we are walking out that "just so you know in the future we have 4 hours cancellation policy...." ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! To which I immediately replied whoa whoa, we are NOT cancelling. This is on your end of miss communication between your staff.... He then gets nervous and says oh yea I know , but just so you know for the future. (side-note there will be no future). We honestly would not have been upset if it weren't for the extremely unprofessional way the manager dealt with the whole situation. Massage envy, sadly as great of a relationship as this could have become, our time is done. My fiance and I were actually discussing in the waiting room that if our massages were up to par this time we would be signing up for the membership. Shame on you massage envy. I am a regular customer and have had a membership for many years. I booked a 90 min appointment at 4:30 with my regular therapist for which I had to wait nearly 3 weeks. 50 minutes before the appointment I was told I was scheduled an hour earlier (the email confirms the time I had was correct.). I was told my therapist was completely booked and I could have 60 min if I could make it there by 4. I was there by 3:59. It was after 4 by the time I was taken to the room. Massages are 50 min, leaving 10 for undressing and dressing. My massage ended a little early, not even 50 min after which I saw my therapist quickly leave out the front door for his break. I asked to speak to the supervisor. My name was taken and I was told she would call me back. 6 days later and no call. I called and am again waiting for a phone call. This place is run poorly and despite my therapist being good I will have to look elsewhere. read more

Wife gave me a massage gift card Christmas 2015. Made first appointment Aug 2016. Not blown away I signed up for 6 month with the intent on gifting to family and friends as the wife spoke highly of this location. January 2017 called to gift a massage to a friend who had just beat throat cancer. When making the appointment, the rep asked for his name. He is male. The rep only provide the names of their male therapists assuming we were in a relationship (as I am also male). I inquired about female therapist and they had 3 available. March 15 2017, call to cancel membership by billing date, 19th. Was told they needed 10 days to cancel the auto charge feature. It didn't take 10 days to setup not sure why it take 10 days to cancel. Will have 5 of 7 services I paid for. Buyer beware! read more
