At 10:45 the masseuse informs me we have 10 min left in my 60 min massage. I sat up and asked what on earth? She said I was docked because I was late - no one said a word. I spent 5 more minutes of my session negotiating with this woman and finally had enough. I said the session was done and left. Front desk kept arguing I was late and therefore didn't get the full time, not one mention at the outset or during the session. What you are doing is criminal and a scam. Shame on you. read more

I got a facial earlier this summer and it was really good! I can't remember the women name who did my facial but it was very relaxing and she was very knowledgeable about skin. To be honest I do already have good skin and maintain it very well so I did not see a huge difference after I left. Keep in mind if you cancel 5 hours prior to your appointment they charge your card. The consultation they do prior is very good and in depth so your service can really target your needs. Being in the waiting room during the consultation was relaxing itself because they have wonderful aroma therapy going. I'm giving this review 3 stars because since the time I came in June I have needed a facial but not interested in going back. Unfortunately they do push expensive products and packages. The first visit is a decent price. Mine was around $70. If I wanted to visit again the girl working at the front desk said it would be a $100 every time. She then tried to push the package and said I could pay $70 a month to come in for a facial or massage 1-2 times a month. For me 70 is pricy once a month especially since I probably wouldn't even go that often . I do believe in giving your skin the best but considering that you can buy products at the center or even at Sephora for the price of the package and use it everyday to maintain your skin, you don't really need an expensive facial so often in my opinion. Overall it's a good experience for a facial but I do think you can find the the same service for cheaper. The employees are very nice and helpful. It's a clean and organized center. I had some neck pain and wanted an immediate massage so I tried massage envy. From the. I Ute I arrived, they tried to sell me on their membership. This continued from the time I walked in, during my massage and u til the time I walked out. I declined. Because of that, a.50 min massage was $145 plus tip. I requested to focus on my neck and back but the very talkative therapist said to do entire body. It was very uncomfortable. Dave your time and money and skip the selling throughout your massage and head to Fountain day spa for the same price, better experience, and some peace and quiet. read more

My massage was actually very nice. The problem was that my massage therapist offered me a hot towel on my back and held lavender in her hand which she had me breathe in, and it cost $15 extra. She never mentioned there was an additional charge, and I was only informed of that upon leaving. Lidia is a rock star at giving deep tissue massages! She finds knots and works really hard so that I am pain free when I leave there. I tried hot stone massage today and it really helped alleviate some nasty trigger points I have in my back and hips. Lidia is professional and knows her stuff. I highly recommend her. NOT RELAXING. If I could give ZERO stars I would. This staff is simply aiming to sell you an expensive monthly membership program. Unfortunately my massage therapist was also not skilled. See below for the full details. I was asked to arrive 15 minutes early to my massage upon booking an appointment. Upon my arrival I was asked to provide personal information including phone number, email, and address by entering it into an iPad. I was given a "consultation" before my massage by the front desk staff member and basically solicited for a membership immediately. I told her I was brand new to massage and this was my first time ever. How could I know that I would commit to a monthly membership having never experienced a massage?! SO DUMB! My massage therapist was an awkward male who told me to undress to my comfort level and he would return in 5 minutes. It took 30 seconds for me to undress and I waited over 5 minutes for him to return. He proceeds to massage me with the blanket and sheet on my back still for about 10 minutes. Unfortunately he WILL NOT SHUT UP! He talks and talks and talks some more about the membership and how I absolutely need to join. I felt like I was being sold the entire time. As a result I felt very anxious and NOT RELAXED!!! The Massage therapist also tried some neck manipulation stuff I wasn't comfortable with so I told him to stop and focus on other areas. His response was that I should have told the front desk to write "no neck massage avoid the neck area" on my chart. I never could have known this coming in for the first time. He got a very snotty attitude with me and said, "if you don't trust me then I will work around the area". He kept emphasizing that it was my fault and I really should have told the front desk. My massage therapist proceeded to end the session 10 minutes early. My massage totaled under 45 minutes when you factor in the 7 minutes allotted to disrobe and the 10 minutes allotted to dress again. Upon dressing in my street clothes my massage therapist was waiting outside the door with water and said thank you. He also reminded me that I really needed to buy the membership. I hope he doesn't hold his breath!! I walked out to the front and I was asked to "sit down" so we could further discuss the membership options. I listened politely and told the front desk sales person that I would think about it. She finally gave me my total and I paid. She let me know that she will give me a call in a few days to see if I want to join and become a member. As I type this review I'm sitting in my whirlpool taking a nice epsom salt bath. This is 100 Times more relaxing than being harassed for an hour!! I will be calling corporate tomorrow since the corporate number doesn't allow people to leave messages! The voicemail storage is probably beyond capacity with people calling up with the same issue! Please AVOID this location. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Yelpers!!! I've been going here for a few months now for my monthly facials. Liz who does my facials is wonderful. She's knowledgeable and creates a relaxing experience. I always walk out feeling so good and my skin feels so fantastic. Further she has offered me some tips that are working for me. The front desk staff members are all well trained, professional and courteous. Last time I was in, knowing that it might be busier at check out, they suggested I could check out early to avoid a wait, which I thought was proactive and smart. Any time you're one of even a few checking in or out due to scheduling, some wait is going to be unavoidable but I really appreciated being offered the option. I've been to another nearby massage envy and just never get the same level of warmth from that front desk staff. So keep up the great work! And Liz, thank you for the great facials. I noticed another reviewer comment about expensive products being offered. It is pretty expected that products used during treatment are offered for purchase and they are expensive. I'm typically not one to go for that. However I've been loving the Jan Marini line and have purchased a couple things. A little pricey but they are lasting me a long time and the quality is excellent. While it's true you can get a similar product for less with similar active ingredients the potency is usually lower. I learned that from a dermatologist. So it's a toss up and personal choice and an economic choice too. What I appreciated is that the products I was offered supplement and add to my existing routine no one pushed me to replace the products I already buy elsewhere and like. That has happened to me at other places and doesn't sit well with me. read more

I started going here a little over 6 months ago every two weeks. It happens to be a time of the week I look forward to. The staff is kind and always welcomes me by name. I injured my shoulder two years ago and it has never fully recovered. I go to the gym, box, and wrestle. Each task taking it's toll on my shoulder and body differently. I visited many doctors, took and MRI arthrogram, had physical therapy sessions, tried accupuncture and accupressure, etc - none of which were able to help or even come to a conclusion as to what has happened to my shoulder. Steven, the therapist I go to regularly at Massage Envy, not only has assisted in reducing the pain but has helped prevent it from getting inflamed on a daily basis. He practices techniques other than just your typical massage such as active release and myofascial release. I would recommend going to this establishment to anyone. Not only to those looking for relaxation, but to those also looking for alternative healing methods. read more

FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES.... WATCH OUT FOR THIS SCAM!!! The following experience was for my wife who was unfortunate enough to have received a Massage Envy Gift Certificate. Never been to Massage Envy but have heard of the brand. Lived in Astoria, New York for some time so am familiar with some services, pricing and, more importantly, quality of other local and, some, lesser known establishments. Received a $75 gift card for Massage Envy as a birthday gift last November 2015 and attempted to book an appointment at their nearest branch (to where we live now in Spring Valley, NY) in Nanuet, Rockland, NY to no avail. Was finally able to book an appointment for Saturday, Jan. 16 at 11:30 a.m., for a one (1) hour massage in their location in Ramsey, NJ. While in route, and since we were running late, I was advised that this would cut into my massage time (i.e. my one hour massage would end up being either 45 minutes or 30 minutes since it would have to end at 12:30 p.m. when their next appointment is scheduled). This is apparently due to their (short) staffing issue (more on this later). It was fine since it was my fault that I was running late. After arrival and set-up, my massage started at approximately 11:48 am. While the masseuse managed to touch almost every part of the allowed body part for a full body massage, it did not necessarily mean that he massaged every part he touched. After what I could only describe as a half-@$$ed attempt at a full body massage, the masseuse promptly notified me that my session has ended. The time was 12:22 p.m. So, let's recap. Due to my lateness to an 11:30 a.m. appointment, my one hour session was shortened to approximately a half-hour, specifically, 24 minutes. Again, the lateness was my fault. Interestingly though, there were approximately 5 to 6 staff at the front desk who seem to be just hanging around while I observed only 2 masseuse on duty. I could not even describe the so-called full body massage that I was supposed to have been given but, and to put it into perspective, our electric massager at home would probably have done a better job. Upon exiting and upon inquiry with regards to the bill and the tip (I know, I don't know what I was basing my tip on since I essentially did not receive a massage), I was informed that the half hour (22 minute) massage cost $65 and was also told that I could use the balance on the gift card ($10) towards tip. The pseudo-massage is $65 because I was charged the full hour even though I only received a half hour. This apparently is company policy, but was not mentioned until time of payment and after the so-called service. I just agreed since I have no intention of returning to this establishment or any of their locations EVER! The experience left me so stressed that I came out of Massage Envy needing a massage. I did not think, ever in my life, that a massage, a practice that was invented, purposely, for the relaxation of the mind and body, would cause me to be stressed. I guess that, their pricing, cancellation policy and overall (non)quality of service, is what makes Massage Envy unique. In my opinion, Massage Envy has been able to establish a scam through loopholes. For one to be able to obtain the rightful service they want and pay for, one has to really, REALLY, be attentive and sly, just like them. Upon reserving a massage session, customers are asked to provide either a credit card number or, if not, the gift card information. Apparently, no appointments can be booked without either one of this information. This is so that any same day cancellation would cost the customer 50% of the schedule service price (i.e. $70 service, $35 for a cancelled appointment). If the customer does not show, he or she is charged the full price of the service scheduled. The only time it would not cost the customer is for any cancellation any time prior to close of business day the day prior to your scheduled appointment. SO, Massage Envy would not honor any reason for you cancelling the same day without charging you. May it be a health reason, a death in the family, or any type of emergency that could prevent you from physically showing up in their establishment. They do not CARE. No reason is good enough. THEY WILL GET THEIR MONEY. Massage Envy will make a profit whether as service is rendered or not. But judging from what I received, actually being served doesn't necessarily mean you get what you pay for. To paint of just how ridiculous this is. Consider an hour of a full body massage in Astoria averages about $40 dollars and they do complete the whole hour and massage, not touch, every part that is allowed to be massaged. Even if we drove and included the tolls and gas, we would only total about the same but would definitely get better service really deserving of a tip. Things in this world are expensive enough as it is without being scammed. NEVER COMING BACK, EVER! read more

just came home from a massage here. My husband had gotten me a giftcard for Christmas for a 90 minute pre-natal. However, when at my appointment, I barely got 60 minutes worth of a massage. My appt was for noon, I walked in at 11:57. Then, they had me fill out paperwork and wait for my person to be ready (about 5-8 minutes). When we got to the room, she proceeded to ask a bunch of questions to make sure it was safe (which was appreciated). Left for me to undress and did not come back in until 12:20. She then got the pillows, towels and lotions ready before starting the massage. Then, at 1:23, she said we were done and walked out. I was out the door before 1:30 for a 90 minute appt that started at 12! I feel like 25 minutes of prep work should be communicated prior to the day of the appt and that when a 90 minute massage is booked and paid for, that actual massage should be 90 minutes! Definitely feel robbed. Ive been to other places and never had this problem. Other than paying for and not getting more than 27 minutes of a massage I was owed, the massage, itself was very good. Horrible. Huge waste of money. Had a 1.5 hr "deep tissue". At no time was there anything deep tissue about it. Was nothing more that pressure point touch and stretching. No massaging going on. This person doesn't know the meaning of a deep tissue massage. Half the appt was spent adjusting the sheets and listening to the so called therapist warming his hands. He put cold alcohol based hand sanitizer on my feet! Insulting! Worst massage I ever had. As a fist time customer they gave me the member price. At check out they suggested I tip on the non member price which is almost double. Why would I tip based on a price I did not pay? This is a scam. I wish I could even review a massage from the Ramsey location, however when called Massage Envy in Ramsey this morning looking for an massage some time after 4pm this evening I couldn't even get more then a few words in. When the receptionist answered I inquired about booking an appointment for this evening and got the following response, "We have nothing available today." I managed to say "Okay," but before I could ask about another time, the receptionist hung up the phone. I decided to try the Massage Envy in Waldwick and they were far more accommodating and pleasant. I was able to make an appointment for today and the Massage was great. Ive been a member for almost a year now and I've never had an issue with massage envy! The front desk has always been accommodating and helpful and every masseuse I've had had always been amazing! They all are very knowledgable and care about their clients. The front desk has never made me feel uncomfortable especially with tips and they are always nice. My wife and I have been coming once a month and it has been nothing but pleasant. I absolutely love massage envy especially Ramsey and highly recommend it to everyone. read more

This place is horrible. The staff is very rude and uncaring as well with the therapist. All they really care about is the money and what you tip them. If you don't tip them the right amount which is 20-25% then they'll move you with someone else who is unexperienced and also they will talk down of what kind of person you are. I've been a member for a year+ and I'm so ready to be done with this commitment with them. And lets not forget, you don't get the "full" hour or 90 minute session that you are promised. It's not like they really focus on the areas of discomfort or pain that you really need to be relieved from.. I'd suggest you to go to your local chiropractor instead..Facials.. not the best thing to get from Massage Envy. They basically just use ordinary products that you can do on your own at home instead of paying the bogus 59.99 + tax.. and lets not forget that $10 dollar charge. The towels they used during my facial seemed very dirty and there were stains!(YIKES), I feel like they don't even sterilize or clean their linens and towels. Now, lets talk about the membership agreement. So you come in "if your new" as a "member" and you pay $53.49 for the hour, if you decide not to sign up the next time you visit; you would have to pay $107 ... lets be real people. The membership is 60+tax each month for a ONE HOUR session that they don't really provide... its more like a 35min session... + you have to tip them around 20-25 dollars. You're basically spending more than you should each month for a massage that doesn't really cure you... If you have that kind of money, then go ahead spend it on people who claim they "care" for you, yet all they care about is how good you "tip" them. Thats America today..Just from my personal experience, don't go to Massage Envy Ramsey in NJ, you'll be sorry when you find out what your really signing up for and what you get in the end. Must admit that I am also disappointed about the time spent on my massage. I, too, received a gift certificate from my hubby and booked a 90 minute massage for 1pm. The receptionist on the phone was not very helpful when I told her this was my first time at Massage Envy. I asked her what type of massage I could get for the amount of my gift certificate, which was $75. She said that for an additional $5 I could book a 90 minute appointment since the value of the certificate is less than the hour appointment. I guess she decided for me that this would be okay. I then asked her about facials and she told me that they do not offer them. So, I then booked the 90 minute session. Once I arrived, which was right at 1pm, no one offered to log me in and was surprised to hear my name called. Once I followed the massage therapist in, I asked her, "Don't I need to fill out some paper work?" She said, "No" but was carrying a clip board that clearly had someone's information on it. Once she then asked for my last name, it was obvious I was the wrong person so back to the reception area I went. Finally, the receptionist gave me a clip board and I proceeded to fill it out. After about 10 minutes, I was then escorted back a second time by a different therapist. She then asked me some questions about what/why I was getting a massage and I proceeded to explain my "problem" areas. I was then left in the room to get undressed. However, I was never at a Massage Envy and did not know how to lay on the table. Once she came back in the room, I asked her what do I do and she then showed me. Don't you think that this should have been explained first? Well, massage underway and although the therapist was nice, I am very disappointed in how achy I felt afterwards as well as being a bit dizzy. There was no room to go to in order to change (used the same room to put my clothes back on after being lubricated with cream). There was no choice in which cream she used, no choice in cream vs oil, aromatherapy vs traditional massage and she never even touched my face even though I said that I get headaches. After changing, she was standing right outside the door with a paper cup with just about a mouth full of water letting me know that I need to stay hydrated. Would it have killed Massage Envy to offer bottled water to their customers? Would it also have hurt their business to have you sit in another room while you drank the water rather than to just push you out the door so suddenly? I even mentioned that the bright lights were a bit strong after being in a dimly lit room with my eyes closed. Oh and my massage time, DEFINITELY NOT 90 MINUTES. More like 60 minutes, especially considering I got there at 1, filled out paper work which took at least 10 minutes, spoke to the therapist for another 5-10 minutes, got undressed, and looked at ending time on clock and it was 2:23pm.
