Went into Message Envy today for a facial. Received a gift card from my daughter for Mother's Day that I had not used. From the moment I walked in for my appointment it was a continuous infomercial. I am all about selling and pushing your products , but come on , let me try the facial before you start with the hard sell. Then I was placed in a room and met my esthetician. Who was very nice and professional, but again started with the hard sell. And continued to hard sell product and services throughout my session. Once my facial was over, I was met by the esthetician in the reception area, where she proceeded to try and again sell my skin care products. Which I politely declined. Then I was turned back over to the receptionist, who again tried to sell me a monthly subscription. The facial was fine, not the best I have ever had, but not the worst. I love every single staff member I've encountered here. I regularly go to Mary Kate who is an absolute massage GODDESS. She takes time to understand my medical history so she can tailor her techniques to help me best. I recently tried a facial for the first time with Ellen and it was so relaxing. Ellen took the time to talk with me about my goals and current skin care routine and explained every step she took in our session. On top of great therapists and esthetician's, the front staff are very attentive. Even if it is a busy day, I am never walking in without being greeted. I went for a first time massage at Massage Envy yesterday. The massage was good except for what happened with the girls upfront after. As soon as I was done, I got a hard sell from the women upfront about paying $70 a month to join. The one woman I talked to; Amber, was nice about it and didn't push me when I said I couldn't swing that kind of money every month. Then when I got up to the front, another girl kept asking me about it too and then proceeded to ask me why I couldn't afford it. At this point I got to tell her that I don't make a lot of money and I can't afford it. I think this question is highly inappropriate. It made me feel like shit to have to let other people know that I am having money problems and can't afford it. I get that they are trying to get people to sign up but they pushed it way too far. read more

I was very unhappy with the way I was treated at this location. I tried to book a 90 min massage and was continuously strung along by the booking staff even though I am a Massage Envy member. They kept telling me they would call me back once they had a chance to check with their therapist to make sure they could accommodate me for a 90 min massage, but that at the very least they could guarantee an hour spot. Well, that charade went on for about 24 hours until I called them again the next day to follow up, at which point they told me they couldn't even accommodate me for an hour! A day and many phone calls wasted, and a lot of aggravation - for nothing. Beware the bad booking practices at this particular franchise. Never had a problem at other Massage Envy locations (I ended up going to their Freehold location instead). read more

The one-star person is straight-up not right. I have had 5 90-minute massages here with different personnel, and my wife uses Georgine. Both of us have had excellent experiences each time. After I used a gift certificate, I was HOUNDED by front desk staff to sign up for a 1 year contract, I know that's what you are in the business for, its sad, because it should be about health and wellbeing for their clients. You leave your 1 hour massage relaxed, and ready to just go home, and NO, you have to stand there for 15 min while they tell you about the benefits of massage therapy, and how my therapist suggests that my body is "out of tune" and "needs to be worked on every week" I thought to myself, you know what, maybe I will try this, I asked for the shortest contract and was told 1 year, and the $$ has to be taken out of my Bank account. I have been burned before from Gyms, trying to cancel there after your contract is up is like buying a house, the paperwork is endless, and sometimes they hit you with fees for this and that. People are always joking about trying to CXL any membership, especially from a gym. I was told "that is not how we work here" and after your year is up, you can cancel, no problem, anytime. Well................ I was burned yet again When I called for the first time in May , I asked "didn't my contract end in April?" I was told "yes it did, why?" I said "I want this month to month cancelled, you can see I have not been there in months, and it just isn't working out" I was paying for massages every month but not using them. I was told that I had to speak to a manager, and that one would call me. June came and went, more $$ taken out of bank, I called again, and told the same thing about a manager having to call me. Well, now it is July and I was CHARGED AGAIN, I finally Tweeted my frustration to Corporate, and I got a call the very next day. I was told I received a phone call back sometime in June, but I did not respond to the call. SHe told me that she was sending me over a piece of paper to sign, and send back, and they will cancel the membership. ARE YOU KIDDING ME, THATS WHAT I HAD TO WAIT FOR A MANAGER TO EMAIL ME A PIECE OF PAPER!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS.??!?!?! Why wasn't this sent to me the first time I called in in MAY?!?!?!? Why does a manager have to email me, and if that's the case, why couldn't one of your employees just relay the message, and email it to me. Oh, I know why. Because they want to keep taking your money, and keep taking your money. Good job Massage Envy, you are a top notch company!!!! I've had a few different masseurs here and most were good, not great. Then a couple weeks ago I came across Yan. He is amazing. I like deep tissue, so if you want a relaxing massage, he may not be for you. I came in today because I couldn't move my neck and I'm walking out like a new person. He really knows the body, how to move you into the optimal position to get just where is necessary. I typically go to Brick's ME because it's closer and I always had a better experience. But I'm more than happy to make the half hour drive for Yan. The only reason I don't want to post this is because I want to be selfish and not have others book him up quickly, but he deserves credit where credit is due. Best masseuse I've ever had. read more

I received a gift certificate for my birthday in February and wanted to use it in May. I scheduled the appointment and then was called back and was told since I had used another gift certificate I had received at Christmas in another location in Maryland, if I wanted to have a massage tomorrow - it would cost an additional $70 on top of the $75 gift certificate I received. I called my friend who had gifted me the certificate and asked her if she was told this when she purchased the gift certificate, and she was not. She was told that this would cover the cost of a massage. We want our money back and go to a real place for a massage that doesn't rip people off. Great massage with Carly. She customized my massage perfectly. A few suggestions; I scheduled a sugar foot massage when i scheduled my massage. When i was brought into the massage room, i was told the foot scrub massage would be taken from my 50 min. massage. I was not happy about that. The oil she used was very cold. Amazing service! Brittany at the front desk was wonderful, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I forget my therapist's name but I asked for deep pressure and they matched me with the perfect person. It was freezing out and I was coming off of a really bad cold so I gladly accepted the hot tea in the waiting area. This place is definitely a great spa environment. Very clean and organized however the staff has a sort of fake friendliness to them which is uncomfortable. They also try to sell you all of their packages and have your card on file which can be very annoying because after your massage/ facial or whatever you get done there you just want to leave. I had a massage while I was there which was very good. It's a little awkward at first but the massage beds are nice and the lighting and music they play make you fee very peaceful. The good thing is that if you love this spa they have many different locations you can try. Overall an ok experience. read more

Sonia is by far the best massage therapist at this location! Every single move is structured perfectly to your body. Sonia is so kind and takes the time before your massage to really go over your needs and your comfort zones. She listens to everything you ask for before and during the massage. During and after, she gives you recommendations on what can improve your body. I always get a deep tissue massage, however I have tried a hot stone massage and facial before as well. I was anticipating a very relaxing massage with no pressure. I just wanted to use a gift card that I got for my birthday. I thought the massage itself was great; however, I felt like I walked into a used car dealership. The therapist tried to get me to buy something before she started my massage and when I was finished, the girl at the desk tried 3 times for me to become a member of this spa. I told her nicely that I was not interested, did not want to make a commitment, and then finally, I said to her, to please take what I owe off of the card. Message Envy's corporate lawyers have obviously decided that there is too much liability in the message business. They have dictated a strange Victorian setup strictly enforced with the threat of firing any message therapist who violates. Clients are completely covered with a heavy blanket with only the smallest body part exposed a one time. Message on torso is shoulders and arms. Message on legs is only on very front and back, not sides. Basically you experience a stifling limited message experience. Find someone else for a good professional message. read more

I regret ever signing up for a contract here. You get a very minimal discount with the contract. Essentially it is $60 per month and you get one free massage ie, $60 massage. Big deal. They try to sell you product every time you go and nag you to make your next appointment. The massages were fine, nothing special. After my contract was over I assumed I was done with them, but they kept charging me. They told I was now on a "month to month" basis and I have to quit in writing. I went in to fill out the paperwork, but was told the person who gives it out wasn't there. They called me every single day for months to get me to schedule a new appointment and not quit. Even the owner, some smarmy guy, called me at least five times. Finally my husband had to talk to him to leave me alone. If you are looking for relaxation, do not go here. read more

Do not become a member! It is a scam! I decided to end my membership when my year was up. I notified Massage Envy a month in advance. They told me I had to wait until my year was up to fill out paperwork. The following month i was told the manager wasn't in twice. On the 3rd try I said i wouldn't leave until I was given the cancellation paper. I fill out the paper noting that i have been asking to end the membership for a month. Then I was charged again. The person I spoke to told me I'd have to speak to a manager, who of course was not in. I actually had to close my debit card to get them to stop charging me! read more
