I was gifted a massage for Mother's Day and missed my appointment I called them an hour later to try to reschedule and they will not reschedule and charge you the full amount this is ridiculous. I had a very frustrating experience with customer service. I needed to cancel an appointment because my daughter was sick, and when I called, I was told there were still multiple openings that day. I explained that I could provide a doctor's note to avoid the 50% cancellation fee, and I was assured this would be communicated to the manager and that I would receive a call back. Unfortunately, I never did. I followed up more than once and was told the same thing each time, but no one ever contacted me. Later, when I called to cancel my membership, I was told I could not receive my credit back because more than a month had passed--even though I had made several attempts to resolve the issue during that time. read more

Probably my least favorite Massage Envy location. The biggest issue was the customer service. Unhelpful responses at the front desk. If you sign up for a membership, be wary that you are unable to cancel until after 12 months. If you want to cancel after 12 months, you have to comply with their antiquated process of going in-person to sign forms. When I mentioned this to another Massage Envy location, they were surprised because they said you can cancel over the phone at their location. After going in person to sign the form, I asked for a copy of the form. They could not give me a copy. I was promised an emailed copy in a few days. A week passed and I didn't receive anything. I called again to ask for an email confirmation that my membership was cancelled. I was told I would receive an email. A few days passed and no email. However, I received a call back saying they will now process my cancellation. Why it was not processed before, I have no clue. At one point, I called and left a message with the manager but never received a response. Massage Envy automatically sends me survey links for this location and despite negative feedback, no one has responded, which further indicates the poor investment with customer satisfaction. I have found the "Total Body Stretch" sessions to be helpful, particularly if you are physically active and participating in sports. It facilitated a quicker recovery process for me. However, it was not worth the headache of dealing with the lack of customer service. I am glad that this is not my home location because I will not staying away from here and continue my patronage at other franchise locations. read more

I Do not recommend this chain. Technicians pick you up late then take it out of your paid appointment time. Speakers don't work, getting a massage in silence is awkward. I signed up for a membership which they told me I could cancel at any time. I went to cancel since I'm not satisfied with the services and was told it's a 12 month locked in membership no cancellations. Full on conversation the whole 60 minutes where she had to stop mid massage because she was gesturing. The massage it self was atrocious. Barely got any contact. Extremely light to nothing. Then I said go let me give it a second shot maybe the next person will be better. Booked another massage and omg! It was the worst. He was 10 minutes late, I felt like a piece of meat, he was rough and he has no clue what he was doing . He kept lowering and lifting the massage table. Way too rough when I said I needed medium. I signed up for the monthly membership here and I want to say their business practices are very unethical. The receptionist that signed me up told me I can "cancel any time." I decided I wanted to cancel after a about six months and was informed that I signed up for a full year - apparently you can sign up for 6 months and this option was never given to me since I was essentially told it was month to month. For this reason, I cannot give this place higher stars. My message to this organization - find a more ethical way of doing business than having your sales people straight up lie to customers. This was my second time with Massage Envy, but first time at this Whittier location since I was given a massage as a gift. After being skeptical about booking at this location due to the numerous negative reviews, I decided to book being that it is closer to my home. I booked my appointment online and unfortunately, when I showed up for my appointment, they said that I cancelled it right after I initially booked it. This was definitely not the case. I took a half day off of work to get a much needed massage in and wasted that time because they proceeded to tell me they couldn't help me and I was basically out of luck. Because it appears I have not been the first one to have this happen to them, I highly suggest management review either your system and/or staff before the negative associations with Massage Envy begin to accrue even more. P.S. For those thinking about Massage Envy for a massage, note that they deduct time from the time you pay for for when you take off and put on your clothes. The membership seems very sketchy. You're better off going to a local small business massage place and getting more value and better service for your investment. read more

Madga is amazing for a stretch! I didn't think it would be soooo enjoyable. I didn't sign up for the membership but here is the scoop. You are pretty much prepaying for services. It's $85/month. Either 6 or 12-month contract. If you sign up for 6-months there is a $75 enrollment fee. If visiting another ME that charges more than $85 for a member service, you need to pay the difference at that location! No fancy showers, or saunas or nothing like that. read more

I'd like to thank the staff of this location in being proactive with their members and reaching out by text to remind us of our monthly needs(facials, massages etc..etc..) I have been going to this location only since May 2022. I have a membership, so I have been trying to go in monthly. I have had several masseuse help me but when I went this last Sunday...Diana helped me and she was incredible!!! I always need medium pressure, which she did and her hands are so soft, it didn't feel rough. Hands down, this was the best massage ever. I will only request her, here on out. Best part, when I told my fiance' I had the best massage ever, he asked " was it Diana?" He'd seen her a few months prior on my membership. Diana knows what she's doing !! read more

I am not a usual customer at ME and I made an appointment to use a gift card I received for Christmas on a facial. I don't know how to confirm but I was told the gift card was worth $100 when I got it but when I used it the girl said there was only $70 on the card which was odd. I still paid for the remainder of the session. I'll start from the moment I walked into ME. When I arrived, I was greeted by two people at the front desk. For a "spa" setting, the greeters were loud. I asked to use the restroom and was pointed to the direction of them. Before entering the restroom there was a strong odor of the bathroom lingering in the hallways and as soon as I walked in I was overwhelmed with the smell of someone who just took a huge dump. I could only wash my hands quickly before gagging and getting out of there. I tried to clear my mind and remember that I was there to have a few hours of peace and relaxation, so I dismissed that moment in the restroom. When I returned back to the lobby, I was told to have a seat in the tranquility room. I sat down and almost immediately the front desk staff was back to talking loud and laughing at their personal conversations. I don't mind personal conversations and having fun (we are human!) but there's a time and place for everything. Since the tranquility room is right next to the front desk, it was unavoidable to listen to them be excessively loud in a spa setting. Most people want that quiet to clear their mind. I waited for several minutes until my appointment time came. The girl was running late and I saw her come in with her things. She wasn't 100% ready for the appointment when we met. She took me to a room for my facial service and although she was nice, she talked the entire appointment. I was never disrespectful and continued conversation. At some point, I realized just how much conversation she was having. The only moments of silence I had was when she left the room for me to settle in. The facial itself was fine and she did ask me questions about my skin in order to optimize the visit. I never felt truly relaxed and at ease. Conversation is nice to break the ice with a stranger but talking almost the entire appointment is very distracting and opposite of what I expect out of a day spa. After the facial and arms treatment, I was taken back to the lobby to follow up on products and stuff used on my skin. I did not buy anything and I thanked the girl for the appointment. The front desk staff then gave me the total of the visit, at about $120+ dollars. I used my gift card thinking there was 100 on it but that's when she told me there was only $70. Again, that's a very odd number for a gift card that my mom gave me. I paid the remaining balance. If I would've known about the $70 I would not have had the treatments I did. I left disappointed in the overall experience and sad that I had to pay another 60+ out of pocket for something that was barely enjoyable. read more

I have had multiple massages before. Kim has been the best she asked me what I needed and focused on what I requested she was amazing, and I walked out feeling so relaxed. I love this place they're super professional and you feel safe it's my second time! I was first helped by a male who was super professional I was a bit scared at first but was comfortable afterwards I was also helped yesterday by a female both massage sessions were great! Price is super pricey 120.00 I paid for 50 minutes not a complete 60 minutes so it is over priced in my opinion but the session was relaxing and professional is what I like about it. I will most likely use them again but this place is overly priced is my only objection over all its a really good place I do recommend. They do have a membership program but I travel a lot which is why I cannot commit to it. But the membership price is more worth it if anything. read more

At massage envy I have always been treated with dignity and respect. Not here at all. Came to the Whittier location with another individual to receive facials as our normal location was fully booked. The facial was the worst I have ever received. The technician I had was not friendly. I purchased the additional service of an exfoliating hand and arm treatment to which she only did my hands and not my arms. When it came to the massage on the arm and hand as is typical she only did the hand as well. The massage was lackluster. Felt like nothing. Felt like she didn't care to be there. During the hand exfoliation and lotion massage the technician made foul criticizing comments over my hands. Indicating that "Your hands are so dry I can see dead skin. Your hands are rough and your cuticles are really dry... just remember healthy hands require healthy hydration".... Is she joking? I wanted to take my dry hand and punch her mouth!! Obviously as I have class I didn't do as I desperately desired. Instead all I said to the technician was "ok". When the service was done then she laid me in with the big blows . I was shocked when she was done she made it a point to tell me that my facial piercings made it too difficult for her to perform the facial on me and that if I wanted to come back to her I needed to take them out. That is absolutely inflammatory and unacceptable and discrimination!!!!. I have never had an issue with my jewelry from any technician at any store and for that witch to tell me "IF" I wanted to return to her as if it's a privilege fit for a queen??? Like as if she runs and owns massage envy??? No ma'am. Unacceptable, unnatural treatment towards another human being, and unhinged. This should not occur at massage envy where the alleged goal is to relax the client. Wow! I will NEVER return to this massage envy let alone to that foul viper of a human who verbally abused me. And my friend who received a facial asked for the bed to be lifted as it hurts their back to lay flat and the technician told them she wouldn't be doing that because she doesn't like working that way. Honestly, this place is a scam. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR MASSAGE ENVY UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE WHIPPED AROUND LIKE A RAG DOLL. Every time I call or ask questions, i get different answers. I paid for a full year in advance but wanted to cancel after many frustrations regarding appointments, transferring credits and our home location. I understand i signed the contract and had to stick it out. I made sure before i cancelled that i would be able to use any remaining credits as normal meaning i could transfer services to any non-members that were within the criteria (can only transfer 1 every 6 months) and they told me i could. I cancelled with 5 remaining credits to use and I just called to transfer a credit and NOW they are telling me that i cant transfer credits bc the membership isnt active?? I am too frustrated to write pages and pages of the terrible interactions i have had prior to this but THANK GOD i already cancelled my membership. I would NEVER recommend massage envy and I would HIGHLY DISCOURAGE ever going to the Whittier location. They are all incompetent and rude and I am mad at myself for signing up, especially at the Whittier location. Some other locations are nicer and more helpful but every interaction with the Whittier staff makes me so happy I never have to go there again. read more

This is based on one experience at this location. I've been an ME customer for about 10 years. I had a really good experience here. My therapist, Annyssa (sp?), was awesome! She used just the right amount of pressure and DIDN'T TALK other than to 1) ask me if the pressure was okay, 2) how was I doing when she told me to "flip over," and 3) at the end when she asked how I was feeling. PERFECT! This is important to me because I get massages to relax and destress which is hard to do when the therapist wants to complain about their job or share their "life story." Per usual I showered prior to my massage and remembered not to over do it with the lotion Bc usually after massages I'm all slick from the body oils they use. I've been to many massage locations from spa settings to more clinical settings. I tend to request the lighter hand massages. Everyone there was nice, but the massage was so light handed- I walked out feeling like I never got a massage at all. I felt no sense of relaxation and was disappointed, I felt the bed to give some feedback so I called and spoke with the front desk who said they would have the manager give me a call back. I had a membership for about two years and did have satisfactory experiences when I received services (massage & facial); but of course, as I got busy, I found it challenging to go in consistently. I had 18 credits on the books and decided to cancel rather than pay for something I was no longer using. Cancelling is IMPOSSIBLE. According to the membership agreement we signed, they want the cancellation request in writing, at least 30 days in advance. Did that. More than once. Sent the cancellation request letter via email and USPS. They still continued to charge my card. I filed a complaint with my bank/credit card. They did a charge back and blocked all future charges since I have documentation of the original agreement, cancellation terms, and cancellation letter sent... 3 months no contact, thought it was FINALLY CANCELLED. then I started to receive messages that my payment wouldn't go through (duh) and that I need to update my payment info. What does it take to cancel and to remain cancelled?!!?!?? Perhaps an act of God? Lose my info PLEASE! This perpetual pestering after cancellation in writing is not only unprofessional, it exposes their ineptitude. read more

I have been coming to this Massage Envy for over two years because I had an excellent massage therapist. However, the service at this location leaves much to be desired. In the last four months, I have had two appointments canceled when I am already sitting in the lobby. This occurred last month and I was told the therapist had a "family emergency". Not a big deal, I know life happens. I asked to reschedule for later in the week and was then informed he would actually be gone for the next 30 days because he was on vacation. They admitted they were "unaware" he was starting vacation that day and only said he had a family emergency to cover their mistake. The staff member mumbled an insincere, "Sorry," and promised to have the manager contact me by the end of the day to see how we could resolve this issue. That contact never happened. Today, I was informed that my massage this upcoming weekend with a different therapist was, yet again, canceled. When I called, I told the person that answered everything mentioned in this reviewed and asked that she cancel my husband's upcoming appointment as well because we would be looking into alternative locations. Her response was, "I do apologize that this happened and good luck with finding a new location because, honestly, this is a big problem here. We get a lot of complaints." While I appreciate the honesty, I could not believe an employee would speak like this about the place they work. This exchange alone speaks volume to the poor quality of leadership and management at this location. It is a shame that my husband and I have decided to explore options at other locations because we do love our regular therapists and, in the end, they are the ones that suffer the consequences. However, it has become abundantly clear that the management does not care about retaining their regular customers nor do they care about fixing problems when they do occur. read more

I was able to book an appointment at a closer location so I called back 30 minutes later to cancel. The receptionist gave me a verbal cancellation and guaranteed I would NOT be charged a fee. Several days passed by and I received a notification from my bank that a charge was on my account. I've been trying to contact the location to speak with a manager (Denise) but have been unsuccessful. My bank has also tried contacting the manager and emailing them but has received no response from this office. Working in customer service, I know this service is unacceptable. I think the manager, Megan is a good and honest person and only allowed to follow policy of the owners. Based on my interaction with this franchisee since December 2014, I feel the owners and their policy's are unethical. We live in Gilbert, AZ and I bought this membership for my wife when I was in Whittier on business. We all have experienced the bank sending us new debit cards for security and fraud reasons. Instead of calling me and letting me know my card is no longer valid, they suspend your account. There have been numerous times my wife has gone to use the service here in AZ and been told our account is frozen. Then when you call the Whittier Massage Envy they want you to pay the lump sum amount of money for 6 or 7, or 8 months(however long it has been) in order to use the service. HELLO! The reason I have them take my money monthly is so I don't have to pay $600 lump sum! And once your account is frozen, they will not let you do anything with it until you pay in full the $600 (or however much it is) lump sum. This has happened three separate times! What I believe this franchisee wants to happen, is for YOU to get fed up and cancel your membership. That way they are not required to fulfill the massage service and keep your money. And by the way, check out the numerous CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS Massage Envy has been the ruled against. You may think you can go to Massage Envy corporate in order to do something about it. Unfortunately, their customer service reps are powerless. They answer the phone, empathize with you and that is it. Too bad Massage Envy is unlike other businesses that honor prepaid services or gift cards. Which don't have expiration dates. Therefore my dear husband paid well over $200 for one massage. Any who, I called this afternoon, a Sunday, for a same day appointment, they told me the only 90 min appointment was with Chris. I said yes I'm ok with a male masseuse. I wanted deep tissue and they told me he was categorized as "medium pressure" . My back was killing me so I took a chance. I have gone to many massage places in Whittier and I'm pretty faithful to one, ME visit today was due to a gift card I had BUT after receiving a massage from Chris I will certainly comeback to see him. My back feels amazing after our session. My back was so tense I couldn't stand straight comfortably. I have never been near falling asleep during a session and 3 separate times I was so relaxed I had to keep reminding myself I couldn't fall asleep. Chris is the reason I had to write a review. I got a massage yesterday in Whittier and I was very unsatisfied with my therapist he operated like a rookie and didn't properly cover me up with sheets. At some point started massaging my jaw and when massaging me he just continued to rub my skin up and down for 90 min! No real technique didn't even feel like a massage the only reason I felt some relaxation was because of the rapid tension relief extremely disappointed because these services aren't cheap and in the end didn't even get a real massage it really got me thinking if they even hire people with experience in this field. Massage therapist Brian did not know his material. What a waste of a session smh. Thinking of canceling. What's the point if therapist aren't gonna be experts in there field. I stopped my membership of 5+ years with the chain because I was in maternity leave and will not be returning after this incident. I found a privately owned massage business and had the best massage. It is unrealistic to ask a mom of a 9 month old to show up at 8:30 AM in hopes of being seen at 9 AM. My time, as much as yours, is very valuable and do not have the luxury to go as I please.
