As a massage therapist myself of 20 years I expect the therapist to know muscle anatomy and alignment with the client's needs. Highlights vs. concerns First impression:** May was waiting on arrival; session lasted 90 minutes. Technique issues:** The first 45 minutes involved using her feet to rub over the sheets, which was VERY painful and not therapeutically effective. I kept telling her ouch... it hurts. Missed targets:** I explicitly asked to focus on my neck and shoulders, but the massage emphasized arms and legs. Even after flipping, the upper back/shoulders/traps did not receive the requested attention with only 10 minutes left. And then she proceeded to go back onto my legs, and I had to tell her no. She then went to my shoulders for two minutes or less, and then proceeded to rub my rhomboids. I told her my shoulders and traps hurt not my rhomboids. I don't think she understood. Like I said it's a language barrier... and if I'm pain, I feel it's not my responsibility to educate. Communication:** There may have been a language barrier contributing to misalignment with my goals. Bottom line This session did not meet my expectations for anatomy-informed, goal-directed work. A different therapist at the same clinic or clearer pre-session communication might yield better results. The massage was probably one of the worst massages I've ever had.. And I definitely will not be back to try anybody else. When looking into another room, all the rooms seem to have bars on the ceiling and look like they may all have the same technique... not a fan! read more

I've been coming here to get massages from Lucky since 2017, so I think it's about time I write a review! First off, Lucky is wonderful. I have back and neck problems and have gotten at least one massage a month for the last 10+ years. For the last several years, Lucky is the only therapist I've gone to. She's consistent, understands anatomy and musculature, and she tailors the massage to your needs. I prefer medium-pressure Swedish style, but shes versatile and she'll supplement with some stretching or even walking on your back if you request it, and I've enjoyed the therapeutic value of both of those things on occasion. She's a very capable massage therapist, and for me, her massages are the perfect blend of bodywork and relaxation. The facilities are clean, and the front desk staff is consistently friendly and helpful. I've been to this spot since it was called The Massage Place, then The Massage Hub, and now Massage One Wellness. I purchase massage packages to take advantage of the package discount, and I've never had any issues with them honoring my package when they've changed the store name. I see some reviews where gift cards weren't honored; maybe it's a physical gift card instead of the packages purchased at the front desk? I always pre-buy the package when I'm checking out, and the package is then digitally associated with my account. Janet was the staff member who helped me and she was amazing! I haven't been able to stop talking about it since i went. Got a last minute walkin appt. I think I got lucky. Make sure to call for appointments just in case though. They also have good deals so ask about them! Pricing : I got a 60 min combination massage for 70.00 and added a hot stone to it, 20.00. We got a 5 pack a few months ago and they said they're a new company and no longer take those. No one felt the need to let anyone know about this? Interesting.... Then I paid you and the bank transaction still says "the Massage Place" but you're not the same company??? Every email I kept getting to book (last one received 7/18/24) was also from the email address that says "massageplacesp". (See imagines below) I recently had a baby so I had to wait and m I finally booked after that last email and I clicked through that email and it took me to the platform on the "massage place" website. No where did I see that it's a new company and I would not be able to use my gift card. I only found out AFTER my massage as I was trying to use it to check out. This business has changed its name and ownership since my last visit, and they no longer honor gift certificates purchased with the old name. I purchased them in November 2023, back when it was still called The Massage Place. The same staff, including the front receptionist and massage therapists, still work there. Now it's known as Massage Hub even though my recent credit card charge says Massage Place. I never received any communication regarding the change or the fact that the gift certificates would no longer be accepted. Although I can use them at other Massage Place locations, they are all far from me now. I was really looking forward to a reflexology session, but all I ended up with was an extended foot and leg massage. The first red flag was when the therapist asked if I wanted a full body massage (um, reflexology is foot-focused). So I said I was there just for reflexology. Second red flag was when she put lotion on my feet and began massaging my feet and ankles. At that point I didn't want to complain so I just went with it but I was a little bit annoyed. When I checked out they added an extra $10 for "reflexology". I told the lady that no reflexology was performed it was just simply an extended foot and leg massage. After a couple minutes speaking with the therapist she came back and basically told me that their reflexology is simply a foot and leg massage. When I explained to her that it's specific pressure points on the feet and no massage (and NO OIL OR LOTION) she basically told me that every place has a different definition of reflexology. Note to owner: 1. please educate your front desk staff on the definition of the various services that you offer and 2. have your staff trained in proper reflexology technique, or don't offer that service at all. If she would have given me what I wanted I would have been fine with it but the worst part is that on the back of the door they have a suggested gratuity of $25 for a $59 service. What's the point of having a no-frills establishment if you're going to try and make it up with exorbitant gratuity suggestions. I won't be back and I don't recommend. read more

Got treated to a full body massage at The Massage Place for my birthday! I called late in the afternoon/early evening and was able to snag up the last appointment of the day. 60 minute massage is as advertised $54. Restroom located in the back was clean, and all rooms are private. I got a mix of swedish, deep tissue, and (I think) Thai massage since that's what my therapist specialized in. Massage Therapists are wearing masks at all times. Wearing the mask while I was face down on the table was a little uncomfortable at first, but the massage was great and just what I needed. My therapist asked if I needed to focus on any areas and definitely took the time to massage out some kinks and knots. Note for tipping: they had signage posted in the room stating the standard tip amount is $25 & up for 60 minute massage / $35 & up for 90 minute massage. All the rooms are private. Scheduling was very easy on their website. I got the swedish massage. It was pretty good. She started out slow and gradually intensified the pressure. Went to this place after I heard the therapists are vaccinated and I was really impressed with how thorough they are with their Covid protocols and temp checks. So I went here last week due to I got good recommendations and honestly when I'm thinking back. I'm scratching my head right now when I'm writing this due to I'm thinking where in the world was it good massage? Honestly? Okey I give them credits for separate private room but that's about it. From the time I got my massage let's start off with they spray something on your feet then they massage you and hear this one out. You get oil massage but they don't wipe it off after they done?!?! Plus the massage here doesn't feel like massage it's more like they rubbing on you. On top off it get ready they climbing up on the table to give you massage since they can't stand and do it ( I never been to anything like that before) Beside the part is that they have suggestions on tips on the wall 40 dollar 60 minutes and something else for 90 minutes. ( Please don't think I'm stingy on tipping but it's way more than 40% right there not even restaurant asking that much) Honestly, I definitely will never come back here the massage I paid for wasn't even worth it. Unfortunately cannot recommend this place anymore. Used to be a great value - now you pay just to get oiled apply. Usually get the combo but have been very sedentary lately and thought my body could benefit from some stretching. I recall the massages I got in Thailand very fondly. Booked a 90 minute Thai massage. There was nothing Thai about it. Only about 2 minutes of stretching at the very end. Massage started 15 minutes late and ended 5 minutes early. Weak pressure for majority of the session and though the masseuse did make an adjustment for one section, she immediately reverted back on the next. True she did get a lot of knots out of my neck and had she spent any time on my hands or any extra 5-10 minutes on my feet I might've called this a wash. Instead she spent what felt like 45 minutes applying oil over and over again to my legs without the slightest hint of pressure - not enough for it to feel like a massage at all, just someone who was paid to rub oil on you. No thanks. Could not relax because of how annoyed I was. I could feel my money going down the drain. My partner, who has been going for years and got me onto this place in the first place, had a very similar experience on his last visit. And sadly he was in active pain looking for relief from a massage professional - only there was none to be found. And they're raising prices starting next week. i gave this place a try after my go-to spot was booked for the next few days. despite the polarized reviews here on yelp. i booked a 60min "firm swedish massage" with one of the masseuses that's been positively reviewed here. like other reviewers, my masseuse seemed to simply be rubbing oil on me versus massaging me, however she applied more pressure after being prompted. the massage was then done firmly for only a few minutes before my masseuse lost steam and defaulted back to absolute minimal pressure, and seemed to go in and out of awareness because she would vacillate between remembering to give firm pressure, to virtually no pressure at all. i found the massage overall to be just okay. not terrible, but not very good. i'm no massage therapist but i've had enough massages to note a lack of technique. there was a haphazard approach to the massage where things would be done on one side but not on the other, and the amount of oil being used when not being firmly massaged would feel a little gross, to be honest. thankfully, my masseuse wiped the oil off (pro). at first with a wet warm towel on my back, then a cold wet towel on my arms, then a totally dry towel on my legs (con). it was hard to relax with all the different varieties going on. there's a glaring sign on the door with a tip guide that i found off-putting. it was recommended to tip no less than $20 for a 1 hour massage...that's a minimum 35% tip for my service. i tipped 20% (used to be considered a good tip once upon a time). pros: the location is convenient for south pas residents, there's seems to be a lot of availability if you need to be seen last minute, the prices are reasonable (despite the high tip request), and it's clean. that said, it left me realizing that my go-to place is more my speed. i'd rather wait for a consistently good spot for me than just an okay one that i can't fully relax in. read more

Alright, admit it, there are some things you don't review because you want to keep them to yourself. But, here goes, Kimberly, who works only two days here, is fantastic. I've been to Burke Williams and to The Ritz Carlton, Kimberly could hold her own against these massage therapists, and the fee for a one hour massage is only $49. (add the $20 to $30 tip on top). The first time I went I asked Kimberly to focus on my shoulders, Which she did. The second time was head to toe, both sides. I'm a fan! My husband likes deep tissue massage and gets massages here, of Kimberly, he says, "she's really strong". I'm more of a medium pressure person, so you can know she can dial it up or dial it down. Timeliness was good, I was seen within about 10 minutes of my arrival. I was lead into a clean, serene room. Nonetheless, what matters most is the service. The massage I got was definitely not a deep tissue. I told the therapist I wanted firm pressure; and it was more like a Swedish style with spare deep tissue work. I wish I could give zero stars. My sister and I both had the worst massages of our lives with Patty and Lucky. Lucky literally just wiped oil on me for an hour. When she asked me to turn over, I just told her to leave the room so I could get dressed. It was supposed to be 90 minutes, but after not being massaged for an hour, I just cut it short. What would be the point of turning over? Just more pointless wiping. I was hoping that my sister's experience was going better because it was her birthday gift from me, but she came out of the room and said hers was the exact same thing and equally terrible. To top things off, they wouldn't comp our visits or do ANYTHING as a make good for our terrible experiences because we "used the full service". Apparently if we had left within 15 minutes, they would have. Yeah right. I don't even believe that. I absolutely dislike when businesses post suggested tips, especially when the suggestions start at over 20%. The suggested tip range for 90 minutes starts at 33.33% and goes to almost 50%. So, I was a bit put off before starting. I am a generous tipper, but only tip in that range is the person providing a service goes above and beyond. The massage wasn't great. Extremely disappointed! When I called to book, I asked on 3 separate occasions if the person that I was going to be with was able to do a deep massage. Every time I was assured they could. My back had been in spasm for the last 3 days. During my appointment, I asked the therapist quite a few times to go deeper. She did the best she could, but that was not a deep massage. She did a Swedish massage with some deep work. After my massage, I asked the person at the front if they were the person I spoke with when I called. He said he was. I said that I had specifically asked if they had someone available that was able to do a deep massage, and he told me there was. He then said next time he would put me with a male therapist. I said that I did not specify that I wanted a female, but that I wanted someone who was able to do a deep massage. Doesn't seem as if he cared that I did not get what I had requested. Unfortunately, my back is still in spasm. The massage did not help at all. Why would you book me with a therapist that can not do what I requested? I've come here for a few times and it has been a hit or miss depending on who I am set up with. This review is specifically with using the masseuse by the name of Lucky. She was 15-20 minutes late to my appointment, which is fine, it's SoCal- traffic comes in all directions. But I would have appreciated if the front staff gave me a heads up that my masseuse was running late instead of staying silent. Then, Lucky proceeds to take and additional 10-15 mins getting ready...or so. All I kept hearing was her cackling with other masseuses and chit chatting. Not cool when you're already late for a session. The massage itself was subpar. Her cell phone incessantly keep sending out the text ping noises, not ever putting her phone on silent. She even had the nerves to check her phone while giving me a massage. Yes, the massage. No matter the 4-5 times I told her that yes, she can put hard pressure on me, all she did was rub her fingers through my back with zero pressure. For crying out loud, I kept asking for additional pressure and her response: rub my hair with her oiled up hands for 10 minutes. When it was about 5-10 minutes left of my session, I literally told her that hey, please use pressure, I requested a deep tissue massage. If I needed something along the lines of tickling, I could have saved the money and had my own 2 kids do it. I have one more gift card credit here but will not be, under any circumstances, use Lucky. I suggest you do the same. I'm looking at the other reviews stating how Lucky was great. Really makes me question as most of those folks that have used Lucky has an average of 40-50 yelp reviews. read more

My favorite is Janet! I have sciatica and honestly some massage therapists do not know how to massage to accommodate that and the experience can be painful. Janet is amazing and has never triggered my sciatica in a negative way and does a great full body massage. Some reviewers do not like that she uses oils, but, maybe because I have dry skin, it doesn't bother me and she cleans it off at the end. Overall, she is my favorite. My overall tip though would be to TRY OUT DIFFERENT THERAPISTS! At this price point for a massage, I've tried different masseuses and I've been able to find my favorites.
